Try buying an esim through an app. You don't want to spend 2h in a O2 store in London on your vacation...

Thanks for this! I have an older unlocked iPhone that’s not dual sim. But I figured I’d have to physical remove the sim.
Just one question, do I have to power the iPhone off remove local sim and insert? Or just do the entire process whilst the phone is still on?

I have yet to fiddle with e-sim. As far as getting local SIM cards, that's what I indeed do, especially since I tend to make long trips rather than short ones. What I also do in that case is I have a dedicated, and cheaper, phone for international travel. That phone gets the tourist SIM card for calls within the foreign country and data while away from Wifi, and I still have my home phone for 2-factor authentification, Whatsapp, email etc... using the hotel's or Airbnb's Wifi.

what about the language on your foreign bought sim card.(I bought Tims sim card in Italy and the language was itialian).Should I have changed the language preference on my cellphone? Do international sim cards respond to you cellphone's selected language? Thank you...

this travel process still isn't streamlined enough for me. i need to still be able to get calls/texts from my own country for a decent price.

He doesn’t provide you with a,b,c but at least he mentioned esim card… if you want to get your texts and messages you need a US plan (as low as you can get for long stays). As he says buy a local plan to load on your esim

This is a good video but still some questions. I have an unlocked iPhone 13 promax. It has a physical sim card in it. My carrier does not support an international plan. Can I use either an esim or another physical sim from the country I’m visiting soon? If so, can you put your US sim card on airplane mode or something to keep from getting calls on your US line? If I remove my US sim card, and only use a foreign one, can I still receive iMessages? I basically want to be able to use Google Maps to be able to navigate while I’m in Paris to find my way, and not sure wifi will always be available when I need it. I have What’s App for calls and some messages… Any help would be appreciated… I have watched several youtubes on this, but it’s still not clear to me. Thanks in advance….

What do you mean? Laptops run on wifi and anything that needs internet can use a phone hotspot.

If you can afford your carrier's international plan then by all means stick with it. Installing international sim card wont hurt your phone, plus much cheaper. Actually bought $12 sim with 35gb data 4g at Amazon, and worked just fine when in abroad (toured around Europe).

That’s not an option for travel TO the US. All the 3G networks are shut-down, so buying a Go Phone is out. If other countries follow suit, no cheap phones there too. And what’s the point of making like it’s 2005 by using a cheap Nokia on vacation, taking pics with a point-and-shoot, and waiting to get back to your hotel to upload vacation pics from a laptop? That digital camera and computer are just as vulnerable to theft as anything.
