  • Well the cat is out of the bag now. Oxtools shop is moving! In this video we get a sneak preview and mini update on some things going on behind the scenes. I want to thank all the folks that reached out and sent me concerned emails wondering where I was and if I was okay. Thank you all the loyal Oxen for thinking of me. Lots of new exciting things happening with the new shop and our new home! Be sure to tune in and check out the Epic Egress series for the latest news. There are tee shirts commemorating the event for folks that would like to help out. It is not required but it is greatly appreciated.

After using a chain fall on a portable gantry crane for years around the shop, I cannot stress enough how much investing in an electric hoist can save time, aggravation, and your back. They are not super cheap, but it's worth it in the long run.

too many landlords are facing an epic battle with evictions brought on by the WuFlu. It's unfortunate that some of them are soaking their paying customers to try and make up for the shortfall.

SF is already 20 miles away from the lab he works at, and that's a terrible drive. He's not driving 200 miles round trip into work everyday. It's just not possible, especially considering the traffic around the lab area. That's around 4 hours of driving a day. I suspect he's retiring or will live in SF during the week, and go up north during weekends.

Gosh, 40% is a bear but I always connected with your concept in your current place of no maintenance, no yard care, roof repair, etc. and the time that afforded you to do what you enjoy. 40% is a real kick in the teeth. Bonus I guess in that location and by the video you dont have a lot of grass to mow lol. It'll be interesting to watch the process an hopefully you chronicle a bit of the pro's and con's of property ownership vs. rent. Im currently owner (decent size commercial shop on main drag, very large 115acre personal property) and I often find myself wondering if ownership is a pro or con especially with equity not always being what its cracked up to be.

On a different note (but because you mentioned them in your video) I need your influence and I would like to publicly ask a favor. I am Australian, but live in the Middle East where it is very hard to find materials (tools, special nuts and bolts etc…). McMaster-Carr is the solution to this, but they are now refusing to ship to my US postbox who then ships on to me. They say it is because of the costs of documentation. Given that they are shipping domestically, this is BS. Would you be able to give them a positive shout-out, asking them to reconsider their shipping options because there are people like me who simply can’t get what we need any other way. Thanks!

New subscriber and really liked your detailed guide on making lapping plates! Very cool … from a 70 year old man.👍. I always wanted to be a gunsmith machinist, but the Air Force had other plans so I maintained the bombing/navigation computers and radar set on B52s and B1b bombers for nearly 22 years.
I was most interested in your lapping process and how I might adapt it to my project of lapping the bottom of computer CPU heat sink coolers. You can find videos on UA-cam of guys doing this, but even a layman as myself can see many flaws in their work.
These flat surfaces, usually copper or aluminum, sit directly on top of the CPU, with a thermal interface material between them, to wick away the heat. I would greatly appreciate your input and recommendations on a more precise method of approaching this task. Thank you. Good luck on your move. I spent 9 1/2 years stationed by Sacramento and several years in Fairfield. A 40% rental increase is just barbaric!

Glad to see the shop is a steel building. ~100 miles would put you in the Clearlake area, and I hope you're thinking fire prevention! I've thought of heading north myself, but I don't want to deal with the fires.

What town are you closest to, Tom? Scrub oaks say you are a little lower than I am, but if you're close, I'll certainly help you move.
