I sprouted some chia seeds from the baking section😊
I started a test garden indoors with a 100w light from Amazon for $56. It cost me about 1 penny an hour and would be good for a solar system. Lettuce, mustard greens, cucumber and arugula. All came out great in a few weeks.
Would you mind sharing the Amazon link and any other items you found helpful with your indoor garden? Thanks
You got cucumbers in a few weeks?
Color me skeptical.
@@highdesertoffgrid4225 Yeah, cucumbers aren't producing yet, but getting flowers.
@@highdesertoffgrid4225 ive done cucumbers from seed under a light before and they do indeed take maybe 3 weeks and then start growing lots of cucumbers that only take a few days to get to full size. they grow much much faster under a light.
Powers a whole solar system??? 😮
(Just kidding) 😁
Due to the climate of what's going on around the world. I have moved my whole operation indoors
Thank you for posting about this ! We’re in Texas where Mother Nature has some serious mood swings ! I’ve been wanting to send my baby plants outside, but either we have scorching heat in spring or like today where we had iphone sized hail!! I just told my husband that we may be turning our first living room into an indoor greenhouse ! It’s ridiculous out here 🤷♀️
I use a combination of AeroGardens (five of them and counting ...), Kratky jars and regular soil pots. It's important to keep your soil pots in a room separate from your hydroponics set-ups. Fungus gnats often live in soil and can transfer soil-borne diseases to the water-grown plants. To date, I have grown, micro cherry tomatoes (Orange Hat variety), dwarf Siberian kale, four or five types of lettuce, dill, basil, watercress, mini bok choy and mini peppers. I have compact cucumbers in the growing queue. It's important to run a small fan in the vicinity of indoor gardens to help reduce fungal diseases and to strength plant stems (no summery breezes to do this for you).
I also do kitchen scrap gardening, especially head lettuce, celery and onion bottoms, green onions. They don't produce a lot but i get a little more out of each vegetable before it eventually goes to the compost pile. I also dehydrate and powder lots of vegetables, such as beets, spinach and other greens (even lettuce), squashes, tomatoes, carrots, rutabaga, etc. as well as apple peels (add these especially to quick breads, muffins, oatmeal etc.). Great for adding a nutrient boost to sauces, desserts, smoothies, beans, soups, breads, ground beef dishes, even rice etc, 3 tablespoons of powder is equal to 1 cup of fresh veggies. Even using a teaspoon of several veggie powders to a meatloaf can significantly add nutrients without changing the flavor especially if you are using strong tasting powders such as spinach or beets. Also consider storing and using things like nutritional yeast, whey powder, flax and chia seeds to enrich all kinds of dishes, incuding salads, especially if sprouted. My favorite popcorn seasoning is nutritional yeast and kelp powder! Flax and chia seeds can even be used as egg substitues in baking or meatloaves or lasagna. Yogurt, fruit (or jam), chia seeds and whey powder makes a great "pudding". Since a little of these items goes a long way, it is easy to store a variety of nutrients in a fairly small space. Also if you have "picky" eaters, you can "hide" a lot if nutrients in spaghetti sauce, meatloaf or non meatloaf or even brownies this way!
Nice video! FYI everyone. That nice sprayer is model 56167 at HF.
Can't recommend starting your garden enough. Me and my mother do a lot of our own gardening and seed starting, we sell a lot of our extra plants to pay for our projects, and our plants are much better than the garden center. I have a lot of pepper plants 6-11in tall and I'm pretty much one of the few people in Wisconsin that grows Carolina Reaper plants. 😂
I got jalapeño, cilantro and Cheyanne plants growing right now.
Oh and i got a hack for people with outside gardens, large rodent cages are good for protecting from bigger garden killers. You can take the metal cage top off. And poke holes in the bottom plastic and use as planter!🎉❤😊
Tap water has chemicals the plants don't want or need. Fluoride, chlorine etc. Put your water in an open top container for 2-3 days before you put them on the plants and most of those chemicals will off gas. And, your plants will grow faster.
Eating sprouts and microgreens while waiting for longer growth veggies is great. Cress is the best microgreen to eat as its the most nutritious.
Thank you for your video 🙏 I’ve been wanting to grow some veggies etc. in doors.
When you're going over these gardening videos can you give tips on what type of fertilizer to use for soil to use
something around npk 5-1-1 for leafy things and 5-5-5 for fruiting things, use at half strength/dosage.
I have found non gmo heirloom sprouting seeds can grow full plants too but many more seeds for the cost.
Uh oh, my older house has a Hip style roof which faces North. I only have one window that gets any sun, and that’s only in the late afternoon. We have a patio that is covered on all around it with a type of fabric? that doesn’t allow direct sunlight in. (And wanted this covering for nosy neighbors)
I truly want to use Chris’s great ideas in this video, but the only thing I can think of is to hire someone to take down the said covering and replace with window screen. We are Seniors and both have physical limitations on what we can do. It’s so very frustrating to us that what we want to do (have a in ground garden, and more). I grow some vegetables in containers at least.
Look into grow lights
@@louleeo7789 Don’t I feel embarrassed. I never thought about that, Plus, I have grow lights….somewhere 🤪
Thank you for replying.
You can always grow sprouts, only need some light at the end before harvest to green them up. We grow alfafa, cabbage, broccoli, radish, red clover. Ready to harvest in about 5 days. My wife likes the stackable 4 trays. They take up little space. My wife has 2 of these from walmart and we have salad everyday. ....VKP Brands Kitchen Crop 4-Tray Sprouter.
@@marjoriedanley6131 don’t worry! I never did either until just recently
@@Dan-yn7ke That’s good information, and also very doable. Thank you and may God Bless you
You can grow microdwarf tomatoes like a houseplant in a 1/2 gallon to 1 gallon sized pot in a south facing window. It’s easy to pollinate bu using an electric toothbrush and simply touching the branch with blossoms and having the pollen shake off.
We have always bought garlic from the grocery store and planted them sprout side down. Great success. We use the tall green of the garlic as it grows in fried potatoes ect.
We have always had an indoor garden plus sprouts 😂🎉😂
Grow milk thistle and worm wood.
For teas and the top of medicins plant.
Thank you for this video! I will try growing some of these vegetables this week!
Broccoli sprouts! 😋👍
Great to see a different style of video, and thanks for the advice for growing vegetables indoors
Thanks for the information.
The javelina destroyed my garden twice last year. I literally cried like my cat got lost. They smashed through my gate! I got a kids play gun with a spotlight and loud fun sounds that scares them off now. A bb gun did not budge them an inch
Time to harvest bacon.
Great video! We like grow indeterminate tomatoes on our apartment deck as they will provide tomatoes well into November and early December in northern California. You can also root a stem with flowers on it and then transplant to another container or indoor hydroponic garden.
thanks - great ideas! Finding window space is somewhat challenging
Great video! Thank you!
Thank you,
great video as always
Grow sunflowers outside during the summer, harvest the seeds and use them for micro-greens during the winter.
Hey I'm growing those exact biquinho peppers this year! Can't wait to grill and pickle some!
very cool video. thank you!
I've recently been growing the Hamama brand of microgreen sprouts. The broccoli are my favorite. The kale wasn't as fun to eat fresh, so I put them in our smoothie. I have cabbage sprouts growing right now. Obviously, this is not a long-term solution financially, but I'm having fun right now just learning about growing microgreens.
I agree with the pump mister, just spend the extra money
I just got one from harbor freight for $5
Great video!
Quick and to the point!
I didn't read all the comments so if it was already mentioned...
Intercrop...for example...carrots, radishes, lettuce and or onions can be seeded in containers or whatever bed that is mainly growing tomatoes...for a couple of reasons...
1. They act as ground cover
2. They deter some pests
3. It saves space for other crops in other areas
There are plenty of inter-crop and companion resources to look into and one of my favorites is potatoes and bush beans...one uptakes nitrogen whilst the other one produces it...
Sow much to learn...so little time 😂
Greetings from Louisiana
You can also coat the top of the soil with diatomaceous earth to interrupt the life cycle of soil borne insects. About a half inch layer works well and it is full of minerals for the soil.
Hello have a good day.
Used a battery tooth bross for the flower work great
Very nice
Great ideas for people that have limited spaces. Thanks Kris!
I brought an indeterminate indoors last fall and had tomatoes all winter. A clone of it is now outdoors for Summer. Use an electric toothbrush motor to vibrate the tomato flowers. When you see the pollen pour out, you're doing it right.
This is great advice but also, you don’t need an electric toothbrush, you can just flick the flowers a couple times! Everytime I do this my fiancé looks at me like a weirdo but it’s so much fun lol I just stand by my pony and flick flick flick for a couple minutes
A lot of people are growing hemp indoors lately.
LOL
Question do you take your garden seed for your micro-green ? Thank you for your good ideas 😊
I grow leafy greens and the likes. I also am a mj card holder that grows them. This light(FECiDA 6000 Lumen LED Grow Light Dimmable, 2024 Best LED Grow Lights for Indoor Plants Full Spectrum, Hanging Seed Starting Seedlings Vegetable Growing Lamps, Daisy Chain Function, Quiet Built-in Fan, only $50.00) is what I am going to switch over for the leafy greens over my pinkish t8 tubes. It's only draws 65 watts and my girls are growing great under them. It covers an area of 36x20 really well in my grow tent. It states to cover a 2.4x1.6ft. For those like me that quit their opiates for weed, don't forget to put away photoperiod seeds, so you can also clone.
nice didnt consider some
Start building up living soil as organic and salt fertizers may run out. I keep a huge black bin under a table and cooking in it is coconut coir, fox farms ocean floor, leaf litter i buy for my reptiles bioactive tanks. Sticks pieces, hardwood charcoal pieces that was for springtails. I have seeded dwarf white isopods in it to help break down. All dried veggies and plant matter gets thrown in, especially cut up roots. I am going to add some peat to it also. I have to go through to see how the isopods bred, they stay mainly in the soil sondigging up all us needed. I have hardwood bark chips for orchids coming, bark is more nutritous for soil over plain wood pieces but use whatvyo can. I can sprout in itvas it has to stay moist for the bug and fungi to thrive. Just keep adding to it as all turns to healthy soil
Buy a grow tent for indoor growing, you can control the climate a lot easier.
That deer in the cameo clip was looking suspicious, saying who me nah! What tomatoes?
With basil, cut the buds before the flower or they'll want to go dormant
Can you use regular seeds to use for spouting microgreen???
Yes. Also if you buy bulk microgreen seeds you can use them for your regular garden's full size plants, and you get a ton more seeds for your money.
You can use even kitchenscraps! 😊
@@roughroadstudio thank you so much for replying
@@Ytdeletesallmycomments thank you for your comment...much appreciated
I wachd this and my mom thinkd i wach a vidio on how to grow you knpw the leavs🍃🌿 lol😂
Crazy you get enough light on your window for you stuff not to go leggy.
I thought the same thing, they will most likely get leggy, that was my mistake last year
Indoor meat livestocks?
Dont forget mother natures plants that are used for medicinal purposes
CHRIS: What specific Basil would you recommend, as there are several types?
Are you getting picky? LOL
Here you go: bit.ly/3UeHyVr
Just play around with some different varieties :) If you find large-leaf basil tricky (as I did until recently) you may find you have better success with small-leaf basil.
@@antonboludo8886 I guess so. Lol. Really though, I don’t have knowledge about this and more, but trying to learn.
@@CityPrepping Thank you, Chris and also for ALL your videos you give us with helpful solutions, etc.
You don’t ever produce fear mongering, just facts about what you have researched for us.
Grow. Barter with seeds
Last winter I successfully grew indeterminate cherry tomatoes indoors. It was fun and very satisfying to pick fresh tomatoes for a Christmas salad. Planning to do it again this year.
👍👏🏻👍💪👍
I was growing outdoor plants & the landlord made me move them inside saying their insurance company said they were a fire hazard. And if I didn’t remove them I could be evicted or have my rent raised.
I was growing things inside. But now I have rats.
It’s very discouraging…
I LIVE IN A DUPLEX AND DON'T HAVE ANY KITCHEN WINDOWS; THE ONLY WINDOWS ARE IN THE LIVING ROOM AND BEDROOM SO I HAVE TO PLANT EVERYTHING OUTSIDE HERE IN WEST CENTRAL FLORIDA AND FIGHT THE SQUIRRELS OUT OF MY TOMATOES. MY HUSBAND IS GOING TO HELP BUILD CAGES AROUND THE BEDS TO KEEP THE SQUIRRELS OUT.

this is a problematic scenarion, people coming to take your food, but indoor gardening isn't viable enough at scale for most folks.
Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth. And that ye study to be quiet, and to do your own business, and to work with your own hands, as we commanded you;
Those smaller windowsill troughs would be great for a window in my dining room! Where did you get those?
I got some like them at Lowe’s in the garden area.
@@VivianTenuta thank you! I'll check there when I go shopping next.
