I'm curious about the lighting. Do you need to adjust the height of your lights for seedling stage or is your lighting set up sufficient for all stages and no need to adjust? I've heard lights need to be very close to the seedlings or they will get leggy. What is your experience?
For MH and HPS bulbs you don’t really need to lower them too much in a reflective tent as it is kind of like “the sun”. For LED lighting I lowered mine to about 1.5 feet above until the seeds germinated. Then I moved them up as far as they could go. LED’s are a little bit less intense and concentrate on a smaller area compared to MH and HPS bulbs. I hope this helps🌱

I'm going to add pumice lava rock to my soil to get even more air in the soil and get the same effect as worm tunnels. Researchers studied pumice and found that it holds the perfect amount of water and air.
You should get a inline water filter. Tap water has chlorine and other human safe chemicals. Some plants don't do well with them. And may inhibit beneficial fungus
Thanks and I have never had any issues as the water where I live in Canada has low chlorine levels. I have had outstanding yields for years indoors and out with normal tap water on drip lines. Cheers
Where I live, the water is already filtered and chlorine is added at 1 part per million. The plants will be fine. From the city's water treatment website: How is our water treated? The new plant treats raw (untreated) water using the following process: coarse screening fine screening chemical mixing (if required) flocculation ultra membrane filtration ultraviolet irradiation (secondary membranes only) chlorine gas injection Following filtration, a small amount of chlorine (1 part per million) is added to ensure that bacteria and viruses that may be present do not grow. Please note: fluoride will NOT be added to the City's water.

woah nice big tent, im thinking of doing similar on a smaller scale though. im interested how your citrus do under the hps compared to the MH cause hps tends to make plants stretch more and maybe not bush out with side shoots as much. you have a lot of space in that tent you could easily fit some eggplant, carrots, cauliflower, broccoli, potatoes, cucumbers, spring onions, courgettes, pretty much anyyyyyyyyyyything you like eating and it would be cool to try a bunch of things and see how they do. 2 things: your ballast placement is risky, they should be away from combustible materials, sat on a concrete block or something. your store bought soil has fungus gnats and probably other pests. i really recommend coco coir bricks and re-hydrate them, they are pest free, plants grow very well in it with a little added perlite and using the correct npk value liquid fertilizer for the plants that you grow.
Thanks for your support! The digital ballasts I have are sitting on small risers so no issues. I will also be experimenting with other veggies. The citrus plants are responding very well with the HPS light overhead.
With a lot of your suggested plants, he'd then have to pollinate by hand. Tomatoes and green beans, etc. are self-pollinating. Just one thing to consider.
@@Undercoverbooks only eggplant would need pollinating and the other ones you think need pollinating wont because there are self fertile versions available

@@indoorgardeningguy1668 extremely helpful! I am very grateful for all your efforts sharing this information with us.

Thank you!! I want to start and you made it much less overwhelming 💛💛
Amazing and thanks for your support! Happy gardening and let me know if you need any questions answered. Cheers 🌱🌱🌱
LEDs could proably save you a fortune less heat too
Thanks and yes I did switch to LED in Season 2. Please check out my latest videos for this season 🌱
I imagine it’s expensive to run. The amount I already pay for electricity it crazy. Soil and nutrients can’t be cheap either.
Is the tent necessary? Or can I grow citrus in a spare room?
Thanks! Not necessary to have in the tent. Citrus just require lots of intense light. South facing window will keep it alive in winters 🌱
Led arent expensive especially when you consider the power draw compared to HPS or MH
Thanks and yes I switched to LED lights this year. Check out my Season 2 videos 🌱
@@indoorgardeningguy1668 oh okay will do!
Hi Gordon, I'm a first-year grower (7b) and I am so thrilled to have found this channel. Thank you for putting together a very sensible/organized setup and videoing your work. It's very inspirational. I'm a container grower primarily anyway and I'd love to learn more about your equipment, costs, electrical needs, and irrigation. I could ramble on, but have subscribed and look forward to continued exposition on your basement vegetable garden project and comments from others. Great work, way to go!
@@rasserfrasser Thank you so much for your support! I have switched to LED lights for Season 2 videos, and just getting ready to plant indoors again for Season 3. Stay tuned and I will be focusing on tomatoes and peppers for my first round in the tent in a few weeks. Let me know if you have any specific questions on what you posted 🌱
@@indoorgardeningguy1668 Awesome, congrats on the LEDs! I'd like to ease in using the other lights for winter (extra heat!) then maybe use LEDs in summer. I look forward to checking those episodes out for sure. Tomatoes and peppers, love it. Best wishes!
loved the ideas you put in this video... I am in an area that does not have basements...water table issue. Do you think it could be adapted to above ground?
Thank you for the nice comment! Yes for sure on your main level for set up. Just pick a room or area you have some space and you could accommodate a smaller tent like the 5x5 foot tent I referenced in my other video about cost setup. Amazon is a great place to find the tents. Cheers

how long do you have the lights on
Thanks! 10 to 12 hours recommended. Please check out my Season 2 videos when I have switched to LED lights🌱
Wouldn't it be interesting if we could use noxious fumes from household appliances like natural gas furnaces, or heat pumps that burn oil, if that exhaust could be vented through growing houses and strip the exhaust of CO2. We could use the CO2 we produce to provide growth benefits to plants...
Thank you for sharing your wisdom! Just starting out and this is exactly what I’m looking to build

An amazing video and so helpful sharing what you have learned!! Thank you
Thank you for this video my good sir. This is exactly what I’m looking for. I’m brand new when it comes to gardening. And I live in a small apartment. I was considering on getting the 4x4 tent. And I didn’t realize this until I watched your video, but it would appear I would need 2 lights. One for the initial growing and one for flowering. I’m glad I found your channel. And thank you once again for this video. Just as you said at the start of this video, there really isn’t anything out there for indoor vegetable gardening.
Thank you for your kind and supportive comments. I am so happy that you were able to use some of my information. Also, please check out my Season 2 videos when I switched to LED lights and these lights would suit your 4x4 tent very well. Let me know if you need any help or further information 🌱
Great video. Super informative thanks
Thank you so much for your kind comment!
Super helpful! Can you stack shelves with lighting underneath each shelf to maximize the space or does that not work in grow tents? I'm not sure how much the light is maximized inside there but I would like to have a few levels. Please let me know your thoughts.
Thanks for the nice support! Recommended to grow with vertical growth systems instead of stacking shelves. You would need a ton of lights if you stack shelves. Please check out my Season 2 from this year as I have switched to LED lights. If you go with shelves, make sure you keep a good distance between each shelf to ensure light can get in between each shelf. Let me know if you need any more help 🌱
Thanks for sharing and glad I found your channel. I look forward to watching more of your videos. Very informative and you explain things very well.
Thanks for your kind comments. Please make sure you watch my latest season 2 where I have switched to LED lights. Cheers 🌱
I’m so glad I found your channel! I bought a 5’x5’ grow tent. What exhaust fan do you have?
Thank you for your support! I purchased the Mars Hydro 6 inch inline fan from Amazon. You can probably get by with a 4 inch inline exhaust fan for 5x5 tent size. The link to the unit I purchased is: MARS HYDRO 6" Inline Duct Fan... www.amazon.ca/dp/B08RYYS9JN?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
Happy Growing! 🌱🌱🌱
Thank you for this video, looking to do something similar .Do you think I can set up a grow tent in an unheated garage during winter (live in southern Ontario-Canada zone 5 -ish ) ?
Thanks for your support! Yes you can set up in your garage if you have space. The HPS and MH bulbs will heat up the tent and ensure you vent the exhaust out into the garage. If you have a smaller garage, please watch out for humidity in the garage. If the humidity rises above 45%, you may want to vent the tent exhaust outside of the garage. Let me know if have any more questions. Cheers and happy growing!🌱🌱🌱
Thank you so much. So much information and this is just the first of your videos that we have seen. We just purchased a used Opulent of the smallest variety and your information is going to be so helpful. I can grow citrus in Nova Scotia ... far out!!
Thank you for your support! Glad that you are growing indoors. I did switch to LED lights in my season 2 and I moved the citrus plants outside of the tent under HPS and MH lights. They are continuing to do very well and provide fruit. Please check out my latest videos. I will try to make a video this winter showing the citrus plant growth outside of the tent 🌱
Is there another video where you go into detail about your drip system? I'm not quite sure how to do it.
In this video I basically explain how to set up an irrigation system. Let me know if you have any more questions 🌱ua-cam.com/video/6SSInZlM66w/v-deo.htmlsi=_gWMqzurgtoaHBiB

What temperature are you maintaining your tent?
26C or about 78F

Awesome video, I have no choice but to copy you. I was watching a video on how worms till the soil and create tunnels through the soil and provide perfect drainage and aeration. I'm going to add pumice lava rock to my soil to get even more air in the soil and get the same effect as worm tunnels.
Researchers studied pumice and found that it holds the perfect amount of water and air.
Thank you for the great comment! Great idea you have for aeration! Cheers

From the city's water treatment website:
How is our water treated?
The new plant treats raw (untreated) water using the following process:
coarse screening
fine screening
chemical mixing (if required)
flocculation
ultra membrane filtration
ultraviolet irradiation (secondary membranes only)
chlorine gas injection
Following filtration, a small amount of chlorine (1 part per million) is added to ensure that bacteria and viruses that may be present do not grow.
Please note: fluoride will NOT be added to the City's water.
great job !!!!
I just bought a tent. You inspired me.

Awesome! Thanks for the nice comment. Check out my latest video for round 2 planting of peas and green beans. Cheers
woah nice big tent, im thinking of doing similar on a smaller scale though. im interested how your citrus do under the hps compared to the MH cause hps tends to make plants stretch more and maybe not bush out with side shoots as much. you have a lot of space in that tent you could easily fit some eggplant, carrots, cauliflower, broccoli, potatoes, cucumbers, spring onions, courgettes, pretty much anyyyyyyyyyyything you like eating and it would be cool to try a bunch of things and see how they do.
2 things:
your ballast placement is risky, they should be away from combustible materials, sat on a concrete block or something.
your store bought soil has fungus gnats and probably other pests. i really recommend coco coir bricks and re-hydrate them, they are pest free, plants grow very well in it with a little added perlite and using the correct npk value liquid fertilizer for the plants that you grow.
Oh, good to know! I suppose having the moving air current also helps with the self-pollination.@@dantheman6698

@Indoor Gardening Guy gotcha 👌 still a nice set up
Thank you!
I would be using the more economical led bulbs.
Yes! I did note this but LED’s for a larger setup are more expensive to purchase up front. Cheers
I'm guessing much less heat too.
Bro, if one light covers a 5x5 that’s = to 25 square feet. So 2 lights will cover 50 square feet or a area 5 foot wide by 10 ft long….. your 10x10 is 100 square feet or 4 5x5 squares😂 your 2 whole lights short according to your math. Yep I’ll take your advice lol
Yes I did post my error on this video, but those two bulbs did the trick. Please watch my season 2 as I switched to LED lights this year. Happy growing 🌱
No need to be disrespectful! His video is free and has amazing advice. Just look at the results.
@@joinkansas7819 ignorance is disrespectful to me, my time and energy are of extreme importance and value. The very first video I watched started with a gross error. That indicates he is not here to share knowledge because none exists but instead to make money misinforming suckers like you. I’m surprised this clown isn’t getting sued after another blind follower burnt his house down with his kids inside. Good luck with your future endeavors
I didn't have much luck with a CO2 bag, I did Install a wall burner close to my tent that provided heat for the basement and also supplied CO2 to my tent. I just left one of the bottom vents on my tent open opposit side of my vent fan so It will pull the CO2 into my tent. (Used the bottom vent as CO2 is heavier than oxygen and settles lowerer to the ground). You have an Awesome Setup thank you for sharing!
