T-34 Pulled Out Of Canal 50 Years After Falling Out Of Plane

- We take a look at my Friend Joe's Latest project.
Maybe Next year we can take both T-34's to Shows.
We just need to get this FV4005 project done so we can continue restoring our T-34.
For those without a sense of humour yes the title is a joke. 😄
Although it could have been recovered from a bog..
Nah... probably a river. Bogs keep stuff pretty intact. You can pull pliable leather, intact wood, pristine condition helmets with intact paint... and other... things we shouldn't speak of in front of children.
There's no way you'd get that thing into a British bog. They're too small!
Yep. Dan Snow and others recovered the remains of a WWII Spitfire from a peat bog in Donegal, Ireland. Paint was still fresh on the crumpled bits of fuselage, they recovered the perfectly preserved leather flight helmet of the pilot, and 6 x Browning .303 machine guns, still loaded.
The pilot was Roland 'Bud' Wolfe. I saw a programme about the plane, and him, hosted by Dan Snow.
Was quite surprised to discover this February that a book my Grandfather (a Forces Chaplain) gave to me shortly before he died, in 1992, had an envelope inside with B&W photos of American pilots from 1941, who joined the RAF before America joined the bunfight after Pearl Harbour.
Among those photos are three of 'Bud' Wolfe, in one of which he is standing beside a Spitfire. Turns out my Grandparents knew him.
falling out of a russian plane would not be out of the norm for them - have you seen their incompetence ?
Too political Too topical? Oooops!
@@user-mb5hx1pp5o See a video of a guy pushing poles into a British bog - went down sixty feet.
I see my language, its from the then Czechoslovakia :D. So much these tanks are made there.
I saw the warning label, so I translated it for you. :D Nice video
Attention
Manual oil pump. Pump oil by hand pump to 05-1 ATM pressure before starting the engine
Lubricator. Fill the lubricant with vaseline every day
Air purifier. Wash the air purifier in 5-10 hours running the engine, in a dusty environment in 3-4 hours running the engine
Oil filter. Wash the oil filter in summer for every 15 hours running the engine and in winter for 25 hours
Fuel filter. Wash the fuel filter for every 25 hours running the engine
Thank you for the translation!
So its a Czech T34? Ive heard they were nicer then the Russian Models.
@@epicstormchaserswfРусские делались сразу для фронта, в том числе женщинами и детьми. За станками они стояли по 12-16 часов и спали прямо в цехах. Посмотрите хронику. С уважением.
This is a Czechoslovakian ZTS Martin built T34-85. Supplied too the DDR National Volks Armee. East German T34s were only warsaw pact army to use ww2 style Notek night driving light mounted on front. The front seats have east german vinyl upholstery.
Not well versed in tank production history, but the instrument labels caught my eye - unlike the ones from the previously featured T34/85, these are in Czech as opposed to Slovak.
Quick google suggested they were also produced in Prague ČKD factory, so I'd argue this one is probably from there, not from ZTS Martin.
@@Dornacgove возможно. Но версия про завод ZTS Martin выглядит более убедительно.
@@Dornacgove The point I was more trying to point too was that this T34 was from Nationale Volksarmee stock and these are quite rare as most of the DDR used examples were chopped up with gas axe and scraped. Information was from long out of print booK "Die Kampfpanzer der NVA".
Interesting info with you people! If I'm not wrong the final T-34/85 was made in Czechoslovakia
V Československej armáde boli na technike väčšinou štítky v češtine. Tento tank mohol byt preto kľudne vyrobený v Martine . Treba pozrieť výrobné číslo na prednom panciery
Quite impressive you can fit about 12 people in a T34. Gossiping away like ladies at a hairdressers.
I bet you measure your manhood with that maths
@@MrHewes Hey. My manhood is 3 1/2 inches of blue steel.
Perfect start to the weekend. Painting over rust always makes it repair itself and disappear.
the famous chinese T34 underwater version, mint on the outside, bag of rust on the inside. I feel this is going to be one of those restorations alright.
At Some point the UK will have the most working T-34 tanks in the world
North Korea and Russia themselves still have hundreds
@Thelogboss Russia have hundreds? Genuine question. Why do they always roll out the same single one for the annual parade?
@@WozWozEre Cause that one runs and drives 🙂
@@WozWozErethey had to cannibalize the other 7 engines or transmissions to keep some modern junk running that’s no doubt been turned into a pile of burning, melted metal in Ukraine. The same basic engine was used up through the T-90M. So it’s not unsurprising to only have 1 T-34-85 in the May 8 Day parade in Moscow recently
@@LukesJukesне говорите ерунды если не в теме…. I'll be the truck geek in the crowd...hats off to the owner of the truck that hauled the T-34 to you. He has it painted up in the colors and markings of "Bj Mcaky and his best friend Bear" trucking TV show from 1979. Looks great! Oh...nice T-34 too fellas...LOL! Love your videos.
It is! How did you recognize that?
@@drunkmike6364 Like I wrote above, I'm a truck geek LOL! I love anything with trucks and the BJ Mcaky TV series was/is all about trucks. That paint scheme is a classic. The minute I saw that delivery truck I knew where the owner got his inspiration from. Now, if we could only get some owner/operator over in Europe do a "snowman" themed truck from "Smokey and the Bandit" 👍...
You have to love Jack's immediate opinion "It's a bag of shit"! It's always the best reaction, as anything after that ,has to be more positive!😆.
Only bag of shit I see is standing beside a tank transporter. Oh putin appears to be readying I.R.B.M's, not L.R.B.M's.😮. good luck.
Its a T34, it is a bag of shit.
‘It is a DAF though, not as cool because it’s a DAF’ that’s the nicest thing anyone’s said about a DAF
Cleanest running T-34 ever, which is probably why it won't rev up.
A T34 that doesn't burn more oil than diesel. Nice.
That's why the Soviets didn't bother putting clear optics in their gun sights, there was no point, gunners couldn't see the target through all the engine smoke anyway.
18:42 when the buyer of the T34-85 asked if the oil primer pump was functional, this was the sellers response.
underrated comment :D

Nice to see Czech text in that T34 😀
Do not slip the clutch!!! 5- Release tiller lock and depress clutch abd select gear. 6- Pull tiller fully back and hold then release clutch pedal. 7- Slowly release tiller to drive away(clutch is only to be used as "on or off", not half way). So a couple of chaps gone magnet fishing on the canal. Their magnet pulled out a tank.
Well that was different , looks like it's fairly complete the tank I mean , thanks for sharing Joe ,
Absolutely amazing work 👏👏
100% incredibly detailed footage. love the quality
That was a great video. Like the tank but a lot of work have fun fixing it you have to get Ted on asap lol 👍👍
Its not just a DAF its one that's running well for now.
Wonderful video and vehicle
i love how all the instructions are written inside the tank on plaques, pretty cool
Wow, that thing looks practically brand new, amazing T 34😊
Always enjoy your vids, Joe.
Love your videos bud! Watching now
Way cool!!! I restored a boat anchor once that was under water for fifty years! 😃
Great video Ted!
When Ted gets behind the camera.......brings the channel to different level....lmfao
Lights....camera....action....woof! Woof!
Andy's Daf Big Red is a total weapon 💪🏼💪🏼💪🏼💪🏼
Unlike most T34s, this one starts up pretty easy and doesnt even smoke much :D
Хорошая работа. С уважением. Из России.
Those are czech inscriptions all over the tank.. for example the one at 9:44 says WARNING! 1) Keep accumulators (maybe meaning batteries?) clean 2) Change (or interchange?) left and right accumulator every 14 days 3) In 12-14 days check the levels of electrolyte in cells which you shall keep at 10-14mm above the top edge of the plate (dunno what that means or if I translated it so it makes sense I'm obviously not a tank mechanic) Anyways, top notch content love your vids.. HMU if you need to have st translated
accumulators sounds like air tanks. the t34 has an air starter and you need to keep water out of the air tanks
It means the top of the lead separator plates in the battery, which you could see by looking into each cell with the caps off. The electrolyte must 14mm deep over the top of those plates.
Happy weekend!
Way back in time, even the Poms referred to batteries as accumulators. In modern English/Pommy-speak the translation would be: WARNING! 1) Keep batteries clean (this prevents terminal to terminal discharge i.e. batteries with clean top surface hold charge much longer than when dirty. 2) Interchange left and right battery every 14 days (this equally cycles discharge & re-charge of both batteries equally i.e. "cycled" batteries last longer) 3) Every 12-14 days check the levels of electrolyte in cells which shall be maintained at 10-14mm above the top edge of the plates (viewed via each and every inspection/vent caps. I would add, charged battery must be 13.8 volts and have electrolyte specific gravity of .1260@@jonnoMoto
"Electrolyte in cells.... 10 to 14mm above top plate".... Sounds like my old (and sadly missed) BSA Tiger 100 motor bike!
Epic. Reminds me of parking my Lincoln MKV.
1 minute in and I can already tell this is going to be Mr Hewes complaining about how dog Russian tanks are to work on
I mean, they werent supposed to be worked on. If it breaks, just get a new one lmao
@@Paronak thing was like ₽100 anyways💀
That one sounds lovely and not too smoky!
and here we go in another wisdom class❤
Minty fresh chaps!!
"It could have sand in the engine"
Crispy on the outside, crunchy on the inside.
that's a cool ass barn you've got there
I remember in the army this was the tank we had to familiarize ourselves with, during the M60A1 years, we thought this tank was the baddest tank ever
That trailer is as we say here in the Shire of Warwick......'fantastique'........!!!!!👍👍
Top driving Andy T.
You will have her restored in no time!
die motor loopt mooi!!
The steering axles are cool
Uber cool tank to add to the collection. You need to watch T-34 Iron Fury. Over the top but entertaining.
So in parts of England, Nerdy blokes are building up a force of armoured weaponry in order to restore the English rule instead of restoring rusty Morris minors and Cortina's.
Works for me
That T34 has a sweet diesel engine!

These days everybody and his grandmother got a T-34. I myself found a bunch in my cellar last week cleaning up. My brother wears one in his hair for years now and thinks he is Jack Tovarishch Sparrow.
I once lived in a house with a terrible T-34 infestation. You could hear them revving in the walls.
Another awesome video
Starting instructions T34
1. Push on isolator, far right side of tank ( marked battery isolator )
2. Set hand throttle 1/3 forward, to the right of drivers knee ( marked hand throttle )
3. Press red starter button, to the left of left shoulder
4. Slow down engine speed on hand throttle
5. Release tiller lock and depress clutch and select gear
6. Pull tiller fully back and hold then release clutch pedal
7. Slowly release tiller to drive away ( clutch is only to be used on or off, not halfway. )
( Do not slip the clutch!!! )
8. Push tillers fully forward to drive and back in either direction to steer
9. To stop engine pull hand throttle right back
10. Turn off isolator
I know they can be weld blobs, but they are sure handsome tanks. Here's to yours joining the ranks soon.
Cool video. I'm a fan of T34s so I found it very interesting. The more time you spent inside this one the more I was suspect that it really runs.
Halo mr hewes, good moning welcome maezing waooo,,,!😀😀😀🤠🤠🤠❤️❤️
Theme from. Bullseye at the end,,, quality lads
Keep them coming guys, fucking love your videos, true British blokes! 👍👍
Fantastic!
I spy a very nice Porsche 911 in white! Very cool!
Positive words from jack the Russel 🤣❤️👌
Like a bunch of kids on Christmas morning, smiles on top of smiles. Just jealous 😁
Were those stress cracks in the hull and turret that they've just welded over?
First he gets married then he gets a baby..... All we need now is @fittermat rocking up with "reet then"!
Haha - All that tank and the boys more interested in the trailer and stacks on the Daf
My Dad who owned 2 Shell Service stations for over 50 years always said, "If it's leaking oil you know it has oil in it."
so what tank are you putting the Williams F1 sidepods on?
It looks a lot better on the outside than on the inside
Are those side pods from a Williams f1 car? Just saw the Rokit advert & judging based on that.
And a cheeky little gt3 off to the side
Is it possible to put new rubber on road wheels?
T-34 looks behind it, seeing a Chieftain. “Look at me Senpai!!” UwU
I bet thats the closest a Chieftain has ever been to a running T34!
Mr Hewes, did you see the Challenger 2 tank with a blown turbo crossing Germany for the Current NATO joint training. All the clag
I did! Why on earth didn’t they stop? Especially when there was a challenger recovery vehicle behind! What a embarrassment to the British army
There was me thinking it was a effing good smoke system.
@MrHewes I'd argue it's pretty impressive that they kept on trucking. Also, I don't think AVREs are meant for long hauls? Could be wrong
“That’s a trampoline spring there”😂
Here in the States all we get to own are cannon, but it seems like everyone in the UK has their own Tank. 😂😁🇺🇸
On the instruction sheet priming the engine before starting it, is missing. This is very important for the W2 motor. It also should be preheated, before starting at lower temperatures.
Body work of a recent williams f1 car in the background, interesting.
I see it's on it's way to the front lines.
Don't know if it's aaaaany use to you at all, but that Google lense app on yer phone is bloody awesome for translating anything in the camera view finder almost instantly
13:29 They literally use Google lens or some similiar app in the video 😅
What are the plans with it? Restoring it?
I can't believe you mocked the DAF. Total workhorse of trucks, and xf has a much nicer cab than any Scania and the best bed of any truck. Volvo being the best overall truck, but could only be made better with a DAF bed.
The T34 looks like it's from Chernobyl.
Uhh Czech language on those tables.
1) keep the batteries clean
2) Change the left and right batteries every 14 days
3) In 12-14 days, check the electrolyte level in the cells, which you should keep 10-15 mm above the upper edge of the plates
I dont remember this tank to serve in Czechoslovak legions...
Yooo a wwii tank design
Its in great condition all things considered!!
I reckon all lorry trailers should have rear Steer makes life so bloody easy
Soviets always carried a BFH to help with gear changes
one of the funniest videos yet
17:31 Is that an M3 rig (or similar) being pulled onto the trailer? Got vague memories of seeing something like it when I attended a German river-crossing demo at some point in the late 70s.
once you are done restorying the barn you should try and get the 2 parts of the maus. :P
No way it just fired up immediately, the insides look so busted lol
It's got a funny amusement park type paint job, where's it been & what's the customer want done with it?
T-34tastic ! 😁👍
The problem you’re always going to have with T-34s built for and during WW2 is that they were only meant to last a few hours on the front line. It’s not that the quality was bad/good/awful etc, they were just built to do a specific job for a specific period of time. Even though the Russian stuff was the most produced, there’s so few around today because most of ‘em rotted away into heaps years ago. Cracking to see one in such good condition, thanks for showing us, as ever!! Keep up the good work me owd horses, me owd chestnuts! XXX
This one was built in the 50's by professionals
Another Triumph oops sorry T34 lol keep going guy's fantastic video's .
Sounds like it runs nice, what's it cost in that condition
Wow, there was barely any smoke on startup.
I didn’t know you had one.
