And another thing I can't get over; boats that miss the gate for the finish line but get credit for crossing the line in that order anyway: to me that's like skipping a turn marker. If you're worried it's too tight of a gate for traffic safety, widen the darned gate. But in any races I've ever seen, full scale or models, if you don't go through the final gate, it's a DNF unless you go back around, just like missing or hitting a course marker.
Agree, but perhaps, for commercial reasons in this like carracing, the jury must aply a 1 minute (?orso) penalty on that faulty team. Could make nice tactics change
I believe the official ruling was that Canada finished because part of their hull broke the finish line, but they were penalized 8 event points for hitting the mark. So they gained one point by hosing Denmark, but lost 8 netting -2 points for the race.
As Citizen of SF and witness of all races, was hella cool..to witness.. never-mind Team US is joke but be nice. They extended the broadcast and racing time like 30 minutes longer
So France got a boundary penalty because it was literally impossible to round the mark inside the boundary? That's absolutely absurd.
Yeah they mentioned it moved, but that seems insane.
French start was one of the most aggressive and skilled I’ve ever seen.

The US team (and management) needs to be fully overhauled. Absolutely embarrassing.
They have an completely new team. All the old guys are training for the americas cup.
No, the U.S. team was just fully overhauled this season, it's unreasonable to expect a new team to suddenly beat more experienced teams, and changing everything at this point would just dig a deeper hole. Have some patience and try to appreciate that what they are doing today is building up the homegrown talent that the U.S. will need to be successful in the future.
@@martymodus7205 Exactly, Spain was new last year and have had an amazing season now after being last. Germany has just finished their first year and has learned so much. US team now has half a season under their belt...

@@BlacksBeachBoogieBurner Yes, they will need to increase the courses next season with the expected bigger field of teams. It's often crowded and that only increases the risks of collisions.
I agree, makes you wonder if they prefer more collisions, thinking it'll draw more audience as if it's Nascar racing or something
@@BlacksBeachBoogieBurner Well, collisions could cause serious injuries, and fatalities at these speeds are quite possible. The risks will only increase with more boats next season. Also, they'll be installing new T-foils which should be faster. So, more boats _and_ faster boats.
So... Surely Canada should be given some big penalty points for taking out the finish mark. No excuses mate, you didn't "technically finish".

@@farvertex Yup, ironically seems like that finish mark is kiddy-proof because he drove AUS into the rigid version causing major damage. Incidents seem to follow Phil around the race course...
When they do the interviews where someone is speaking in a different language, like Peter Burling, it would be nice to have English subtitles.

Good racing all round
It's difficult to be a USA fan. 3rd place start, upwind port tack penalty, bad position approaching the 3rd mark, then last at the 3rd mark. Slowest boat, longest course sailed. 9th place finish. Don't even bother showing the last place finish in race 2. This is the home team.

Can someone clarify something about the Grand Final? Is there an event Final winner in SF followed by the Grand Final ? Or is there just the 5 races followed by the Grand Final ?

Why is the US even in this race? There must be someone with sailing experience in that country.
This is the only place to practice on these boats. If you're going to git gud, you have to do it here.
Seems like team USA should re-evaluate the whole thing. They are always nearest the start before the start, and then last at the finish...
I don't understand why spain had to move to avoid france on that final start. shouldn't they be able to maintain their course? doesn't matter that france was leeward.
Hope the wind behaves better for the final races, highly variable winds can make it too much of a luck rather than skill event. That would be a crappy way to end the season.

Every time Aus is mentioned it’s “three time, reigning and defending champions”. Like having a very irritating talking parrot in the room.
Very upset Chicago was dropped from next season's tour.
Also, WTF is wrong with Canfield: he appears to have good starts but then instantly gets freaked out and buries the boat back in around 6-7th place in the pack, every time. It's like he and the USA team just surrender too easily.
Do the announcers get paid every time they say "Master Class"... or are they setting up some kind of drinking game?
Some say the U.S. team has big problems but Canada looked just as bad-- where does the buck stop !?!
seems like Canada took their foot off the gas for this event, acknowledging they're not making the grand finale. Phil Robertson isn't known for being cautious, so perhaps they've got orders from the organization to preserve the boat for the next season?
