    18:30 “if we have a dysfunctional relationship with our mother, we probably have a dysfunctional relationship with the Holy Spirit”.. based on what? What if your mom is a Jezebel (or has NPD)? The Holy Spirit converted me and delivered me from my dysfunctional mother (and family) with His wonderful Grace I believe. I don’t believe that was dysfunctional.

    • @dave-nevins
      @dave-nevins  4 роки тому +1

      Understand.
      That's great you got release!
      The idea is that if your mother was unloving in certain areas; there can often be a way in which we think God (esp. Holy Spirit) is like that as well. These things are sometimes unconscious.
      E.g., a lie we might believe w/o realizing it: "God is tough, but not tender" -- that 's something we can do deep into for more healing. God is more empathetic than anyone, of course.

    • @cukomi
      @cukomi 4 роки тому +1

      I was raised and scapegoated by a narcissistic mother and our relationship was quite dysfunctional. How can she say that “we” are more likely to have a dysfunctional relationship with the Holy Spirit because of this? I think that’s not true and it’s a false and bold statement. I’m bothered by it, because I can’t relate to it at all. I’m not blaming God for anything or being unloving. Also not unconsciously. I love God, Jesus and the Holy Spirit. And I still think, believe and know God is a good and loving God. Always

    • @dave-nevins
      @dave-nevins  4 роки тому +1

      That’s great. Thanks for sharing.
      A lot of inner healers use this model and we do also -that Father God is mirrored in your own dad, and the Holy Spirit is mirrored in your mother, and Jesus is mirrored in brother and sister relationships.
      But that doesn’t mean God can’t overcome those experiences --and it is definitely a pattern that we see frequently. It doesn’t mean that things don’t integrate and inter-penetrate it’s just a place to look for soul pain that can be healed more deeply.
      Psychologists also use this to some degree as well. For example with atheists who are men there is often a father one that is unconscious and then rationalization surfaces to say God is like dad -he wasn’t there or something like that.

    Around 41 minutes she mentioned forgiving God. Are there any resources on this specifically?

    • @dave-nevins
      @dave-nevins  4 роки тому

      A good question.
      Obviously, in a technical sense it’s impossible to forgive God because God is infinitely perfect, and there’s nothing that you can give God that God doesn’t already have. It’s like a character in a novel trying to give the author something that the author doesn’t own.
      However we do give things to God all the time that he asked for since that is how he set up our world, to mirror the fact that giving and receiving is in the image of who he is, and giving and receiving build the bond of love, especially emotionally.
      So one way to look at it is that you are giving God the gift of not holding a grudge toward him.
      Another way to look at it is that your unconscious emotions may need to verbalize that in order to release the pain. It’s like a very little kid (not a theologian) who has been traumatized doesn’t understand that the Father didn’t hurt him or fail to protect him, but he may still need to forgive his Dad anyway in order to release the pain from the trauma.
      The honesty of the emotion, once properly processed, can then be in a better position with the Father to later correct any possible misunderstandings regarding theology and what actually happened. But first thing is to remove the block at the deeper level.
      We do notice that this language does seem to release things more easily than other language because there’s a certain honestly with how you feel even though intellectually you might know that the transaction doesn’t make sense.
      One item of importance here is that dark stuff hides
      in our traumatized emotions. They can re-traumatize at the weak spot. So however we honestly really feel is how we need to connect with God. Often the greater need, especially in our culture and especially where we are damaged, is emotional honesty, rather reinforcing intellectual things we already know.
      And if that explanation still isn’t good enough then you might just simply replace it with the language “God I release you from any judgment “
      If that doesn’t bring up the pain underneath, then try the original language. You can always allow God to cover for you, regarding any language mistakes you use, esp. since no language about God is adequate or perfect.
      Last, the fact that we are hesitant to have the wrong language is often a religious wound that needs to be addressed along with the trauma that you’re trying to heal, ironically! The religious wound can act as a cover to prevent us from getting at our other wound, and receiving our fuller healing with God.
      So the solution in all of these things is always to just give them to God to heal.
      Blessings to you!
