Tanokumbia was intended for the dance floor. We dedicate this to our people who suffer because of colonial borders. In hopes that the condor will meet the eagle to the sounds of Cumbia PowWow.

The fact that you guys went for Cumbia is remarkable. Y’all should make a whole album
I agree, I am from West Texas, South East New Mexico and this is a big part of the culture, everyone, and I mean everyone dances the cumbias.
@@monstermonkey51dope!
I grew up in Washington State, where I don’t have much connection with the roots my mother and I share. We’re indigenous Guatemalan- but neither my mother or I were raised with that being part of our identity as my mom grew up in a town where being Native Anything was something negative. The more European the better, sadly. I was raised without much of any culture influence to begin with, but... I really WANT to connect more with our culture, yet for years I’ve struggled to figure out where to start. The tribes around here- I’m completely unrelated to them and petrified of overstepping and asking all the wrong questions, but I’m nearly two countries away from the ancestry I wish to know better. To the culture I want to involve more in my life. Maybe I’m overthinking this, but there isn’t really anyone around I can share this with.
It feels like a state of limbo, trying to connect but not having anywhere to begin even grasping at the shortest straws.
This music has given me a place to do just that, I think. And it’s really, really good.
I grew up in Washington as well. My great grandmother was half Blackfoot but we weren't allowed to talk about it or practice any of our traditions because it was seen as a bad thing.
It will take time to reconnect to your roots but you'll get there. Learning all you can is the first step but you will get there. I wish you and your family the best.
I feel this in my soul. My mirror tells a story and I can't understand the language. I'm listening so hard.
Igualmente, hermano. My mom’s side is from two different parts of Mexico, though we have relatives in New Mexico, Nevada, and Oklahoma (on both grandma’s n grandpa’s sides) that have been there for ages. No one knows how, except that we were born on the land. I’m blessed that some of the indigenous culture and isms have been passed down, and I can research them to get an idea of where they originated. BUT.......many are now known as general Native American traditions spread across various tribes/nations. Idk that I’ll ever get back exactly what tribe(s) we hail from. Even though we couldn’t hide our native features, there was still something taboo about bringing up curanderismos (“that’s just silly superstitions. It’s all in your head”; native medicine cured my grandfather of polio, but hey, sure it’s all in our head) or talking about where we came from.
Good luck finding anything on my dad’s side, too. Jamaican ancestry, with an indigenous great grandmother from Panama. Dad died when I was a baby, n we don’t talk to that side.
I’ve worked hard to reconnect with my indigenous heritage. It hasn’t been easy, but it’s doable to an extent. If you know where in Guatemala you came from, you can probably look up the indigenous populations or the history of the region. If all else fails, chances are high you come from the Maya and one of their 24 Subgroups. Could also be garifuna or Zinka, but I digress.
At the end of the day, you’re still an indigenous brother ❤️
Sure right now it's not the same for you, past miss you ?? Everything is here research it, with your senses your soul your life do it, feel it, live it, like a crazy old dirty bastard 💚 from france 🤭🤣🤣 take it easy

I whole-heartedly recommend The Garifuna Collective as well as Aurelio Martinez. It would blow my mind if you somehow collaborated with Garifuna musicians one day.

Cool sounds like Mexican Cumbia 🇲🇽🇲🇽👍👍
Cumbia is originally from Colombia, check the history of Cumbia.
@@ErikaM683 yea ikno but the style type there is Columbian and mexican but styles differ
@@josegvl13 However, the style shown here (with accordeon and maracas) is colombian. Mexican cumbia uses other istruments like highlights instead.
