Best time I’ve ever had was in Key West!! My wife and I are hooked and will return to our favorite place over and over. Never gets dull. There’s a new journey every time we return
Took a trip down there in 1971 with my brother got a flat tire late at night on the old bridge in Marathon. A nice man with his girlfriend drove us many miles back to our campsite (so kind) got the tire fixed the next day. Always wished I could thank that young man again for helping us. Married now many many years later I haven’t been back but Key West has really been built up. My wife Diana really wants to go so hopefully one day we will. Great video.
I highly recommend this drive going to Key West . Going away from Key West to me at least is sad because my vacation is over ! I've been fortunate . Driving the ' old road could be freightening at time due to the narrow lanes .In 1966 I experienced the Over Seas highway the first time . The ' new " bridge is wonderful . I am very happy that they left the " old " bridge for the most part . The train tressel that was left at Bahia Honda is a wonderful reminder of Flagers railroad . It a must see in the USA.
I’ve been driving down to the Keys from where I live in Fort Lauderdale since I got my drivers license 20 years ago and I must say, this video has a wealth of information for those new to the Keys. I’m getting ready to head down to Key West in two days and I’m so excited (despite having just been there two months ago) I must have watched this video half a dozen times in the last week 👍

@@Brararaf101 The drive to Key West is separated by Overseas Highway. The whole way down to Key West you'll have the "ocean side" to your left and the "bay side" to your right. All the residents in the Keys refer to every business as being in the ocean or bay side, and the mile marker their business in located on. I think most people prefer to swim on the ocean side. I would recommend stopping at the Postcard Inn when you get to Islamorada Key and having and lunch or ordering drinks to use their beach and pool. I think they'll let you do that, but you may want to call ahead and ask. Alternatively, you could continue down Overseas Highway for another hour and make your stop at Sombrero Beach which in is Marathon Key. Their beach is open to the public. The final Key is Key West and they are not known for their beaches, but some of the resorts have beautiful man-made beaches. Always ask lots of questions about the beach before you book your hotel.
u lucky duck 🥺 i live ACROSS THE WORLD in las vegas, nv & would love to visit a place like this, jeeez, even just florida for that matter 🤥🤕🤙🏻 but it shows a lot when theres so many comments from people IN florida that are talking about saving up to go & visit the keys, probably a hard question to answer but how expensive is it? if you could let me know a safe amount to save up for a single person for idk about a week? or per day, whatevers easier. i’d like to take a family vacation out there sometime & that would likely be 2 kids (6 & 3 but they’d likely be at least a year older by the time we were able to go) and 2 adults, if there’s anything wrong with that plan like idk the kids being too young or not a lot of family activities/it being more of an adult vacation location (living in vegas i’m all too familiar with that and wouldnt want to take my kids somewhere they wouldnt enjoy) please feel free to be completely brutally honest! thank you so much!

The jet ski tour around Key West from Fury water sports is a MUST! The guides are very knowledgeable and safety is fist and foremost. ALSO, Southern Most Point..
I am a native Floridian and as a boy back in 1967 my family traveled to Key West. I remember a couple of gas stations and some rickety old motels. We camped out on Turtle mound, Bahia Honda, the sand knats were terrible at night, horse flies were bad too. We saw native indians walking along the roadside and the bugs didn't seem to bother them and I wondered why. Wow! It is amazing things change in just 50 years!
HAHAHAHA...BUGS! It must be in the blood! Many indigenous people are not tortured by bugs! I'm glad my Dad had much Lenape blood and I don't get that many eating my flesh! As a kid I used to get greenhead fly bites and not really notice them until the blood ran down my legs..LOL. I still like skeeter nets at night! I was stationed at Key West in the Sub service until we went to the yards and I was out.... Dad died in Cape Canaveral. I miss visiting paradise!
yes many changes and NOT for the better, i have lived here for about 43 to 44 years and been coming to the Keys for about 55 years, to bad it did not stay the same as in the past

Just back from our first visit to the Keys. Flew into Miami & drove down from there. Stayed at the Isla Bella resort on the east end of the 7 mile bridge in Marathon for 5 days, and drove down to Key West from there one day. The entire stay was stunningly beautiful. LOVED Sunset Grill, Sparkys cafe & Porky's, all in Marathon. We plan this to be an annual escape now.
I grew up believing that Florida was heaven on Earth... And when I finally got to visit Miami in 2003 to go on a cruise, I stopped the car in the middle of the highway just to literally kiss a Palm Tree near the state line.... I fell in love with Florida and didn't want to leave after our cruise was over... Needless to say, we came back to sucky ass Eastern North Carolina and I haven't been able to go back to Florida since... I would give anything to live in either Miami or Key West... But, I would take any where in the southern half of the state... If I never see another cold Winter or a snowflake again, it would be too soon! Florida will always be Heaven On Earth... To me!!
You’re nuts. Sucky NC? We’ve got tons more to offer than Florida. Only thing better about Florida then NC is no state tax. We’ve got beaches and mountains. And we get to experience all four seasons. And the best road 9n planet earth for riding motorcycles. The Dragon. Oh and by the way. The best college hoops in the nation. Take a trip to the OBX. We just did this drive today from Miami to Key West. It was amazing. Bahia Honda was great. My daughter had a great time playing in the water. I've had this drive in mind for the past 14 years or so, and I'm so glad that my wife, daughter, and I had a chance to make the drive today. The only thing I'd do next time is stay a night or two in Key West. Due to the drive time back to Miami, we made this a one day trip from Miami. I feel there's a lot more to experience so we'll make sure to spend more time in the keys when we come back to Miami.
@@khae_g hello! The drive for us was a few hours. I think around 3 hours but we stopped at Bahia Honda and some other keys along the way. We did the back and forth trip in a day. Have fun and if you have any questions or need any tips feel free to reach out!
5 hours?! You must have either stopped along the way alot or you drive 20 miles per hour. Its 130 miles from Miami, if you do the math: driving at 50 MPH, you would get there in 3 hours tops.

I’ve been to the keys several times (at least four) and you did a great job explaining all of the spots! However, I think you should’ve included robbie’s! That place has great seafood, kayaking, fishing, snorkeling, boat tours, parasailing, and you can even feed a tarpon! If you’ve never been there, you should go! But make sure to go on a night where it’s not busy
Great vid. Nice drone work. During the video it would be great to have a “kayaking in the mangroves” clip with a kayaker paddling around a mangrove. The sunset sailing is spectacular. Perfect place to learn to dive in warm water with a coral reef and colorful sea life. Beautiful marinas. And Conch Key is pronounced (conk like honk). Please remember to respect the sea life and local critters. And do not litter. We love the Keys, please treat it with love. Welcome to Paradise, and the “Conch Republic”!
Yep I think that is a great suggestion. We'll be doing another video in the Keys probably within a year and we will do more of that of really getting into the nature.
I originally hail from the tropics and would be perfectly comfortable in the Keys. Commitments up north, however, are keeping me moving but I would be happy with even a vacation home there. Getting tired of the cold and the snow in New York.

Lived and visited since 1985-2003. The most magical times of my life! Beautiful, peaceful, inspiring. Just perfect! ❤
First time i was in Key West was in "68......I was 5 thou lol......second time was 2 weeks ago. Wife and I had a blast. Won't wait that long again!! Nice vid !
Best time I’ve ever had was in Key West!! My wife and I are hooked and will return to our favorite place over and over. Never gets dull. There’s a new journey every time we return
Very true
Took a trip down there in 1971 with my brother got a flat tire late at night on the old bridge in Marathon. A nice man with his girlfriend drove us many miles back to our campsite (so kind) got the tire fixed the next day. Always wished I could thank that young man again for helping us. Married now many many years later I haven’t been back but Key West has really been built up. My wife Diana really wants to go so hopefully one day we will. Great video.
This place is kinda like a tropical paradise in the US, for sure!
It's !
Bucket list drive for sure...
Agree. I was there for my 21st birthday in 2005. It’s a place to visit. Big change from Los Angeles. We stayed at the galleon resort in the marina.
You mean it is.
I’ve been driving down to the Keys from where I live in Fort Lauderdale since I got my drivers license 20 years ago and I must say, this video has a wealth of information for those new to the Keys. I’m getting ready to head down to Key West in two days and I’m so excited (despite having just been there two months ago) I must have watched this video half a dozen times in the last week 👍

hey visiting what are some good beaches u recoment for swimming and relaxing?

I loved Key West. Didn’t have time to visit everything, but it was an experience of a lifetime.
From Harrisonburg, Va.
When I lived in south Florida, we'd venture down to the Keys. One of the most memorable trips to Key West, is when I took my parents there, in a convertible. So glad I did
The jet ski tour around Key West from Fury water sports is a MUST! The guides are very knowledgeable and safety is fist and foremost. ALSO, Southern Most Point..
Yep agreed, Fury provides a way to really get out and see the nature.
@Paul Provenzano they dont jet ski where people are fishing.
Its the food we eat. Natives ate clean, healthy, local.
yes many changes and NOT for the better, i have lived here for about 43 to 44 years and been coming to the Keys for about 55 years, to bad it did not stay the same as in the past

I love this video! I live in Omaha Nebraska , i met a guy on social media in 2012 , we became friends. In 2014 he found out that I needed a kidney. In November of 2017 he and his wife drove from Oologah Oklahoma and he saved my life with a donation. In December 2018 I bought my first motorcycle, in March of 2019 my brother and I loaded our bikes and met Sein in Oklahoma waiting with his RV , we loaded the bikes in his trailer and set off for Daytona bike week, after a couple days riding in central Florida we parked the RV in A campground just north of key largo and rode to Key West! This is a bucket list item for me and was one of the most amazing experiences in my life . Back home it was 3’ of snow and we had 85° i Key West. Summer 2021 I’m planning a road trip with my 18 year old son in my tiny camper to the kays . Most beautiful place on earth!

You get to drive on the bridges over water just like in the vid. Just because you haven’t explored N.C. doesn’t mean it sucks.
@@1EVILZ06 😂🤣I live in OBX... Been here for sixteen years and I love it here! I lived in Cherokee for a year and hated every damn day of it! Ears popping alone was enough for me to hate it.
I love the beach.. I love Dare County! But, I hate winter! Anything below 70 and I'm bitching.... Go figure since I was born in December in New Jersey....😂 I lived in Melbourne, Florida for a few months in 1991 and didn't want to come back to NC. I fell in love with it, but we had to come back for family matters and never turned back.
There was something about, Florida that grabbed my heart. The warm weather, the people, the beaches, tourism, and yes, even the Palm Trees.
NC is alright... But, it's no Florida! I've lived in various parts of NC in my life and hated every one of them, except the Outer Banks.
@@PaulJGorzkowski Dude I like all four seasons personally. Christmas wouldn’t be Christmas if it’s 75 degrees out side. That’s just me. Beach’s & Mountains and you’re complaining about it being chilly? Come on dude. Best college hoops around. (Go Tar-heels). If you like Florida what ever floats your canoe. Don’t get me wrong Florida is nice when it’s January/February. I remember leaving here in NC in January and snow was on the ground. Landed in Miami and it was 80 degrees. All in all to me it’s a nice vacation state. But wouldn’t live there. The summers are just stoooopid hot/humid. I love the OBX and the mountains. Best motorcycle roads in the nation here in NC. I’m in central NC so it’s 4.5 hrs for me to get to either one. And I also like that we’re central east coast. Can one way it to Mia/NY.
@@1EVILZ06 I'm not into sports, so none of it sways my decision one way or the other. I love it stupid hot. It's easier for me to cool off than it is to get warm. Hot sunny days, I love!! We just did this drive today from Miami to Key West. It was amazing. Bahia Honda was great. My daughter had a great time playing in the water. I've had this drive in mind for the past 14 years or so, and I'm so glad that my wife, daughter, and I had a chance to make the drive today. Great to hear yep that's why The Keys are so great
My best friend lived there he's gone now but I know he had a wonderful life . May he rest in peace
