I remember whem i played a similar game like this in the Philippines, it was called "Doktor Kwak Kwak".
It wilk be played by how many players that you want and the goal is that the players will try to make themselves tangled as possible. Then, "Doktor Kwak Kwak" comes in and tries to untangle them.

I'm from Namibia and we also played it like you said. We called it 'Dr knot'. We played it in primary school and we loved it.

At the start girl with grey top was on the left of the guy with the grey top. Your solution she is not in the same position, she is on his right side. Therefore not in original order.
