    One thing about Ollie is that he is just as friendly and nice in person in a conversation as he is on your podcast on TV. Truly, one of the nicest guys I’ve met in the sport. He’s going to be a huge star and very popular with fans and sponsors if he can back up that winning personality with great driving in F1.
    His outstanding drive in place of Carlos for Ferrari in Jeddah and the laptimes in his FP1s, which are just about on pace with the full-time Haas drivers, are very encouraging.

    Back in the day F1 world champions took on the responsibility of traveling around the world and being an advocate for the sport after they won the championship.
    Feels like modern F1 could use a bit more of this, but nice to see that drivers like Lewis (and I’m sure others as well) are taking the time to send some personalized messages and such to upcoming drivers.

      They don’t need that anymore. They have social media that can reach the entire world in an instant. Also for all its faults DTS has been huge for the sports growth. I have people asking me about F1 that I never would’ve dreamed would care about racing because of that show. I’m not saying it’s not a good thing when the best reach out and become ambassadors of the sport but it’s just not necessary for the sport to succeed.

    • @stormageddon248
      @stormageddon248 2 місяці тому +1

      @@fragdudeIt’s been pretty interesting the last few rounds. Could the racing be a bit more agile? Yes. But all they needed to make it compelling was Red Bull knocked down a peg. For the first time in what feels like ten years I turn on the tv and I’m not sure who’s going to win.

    • @fragdude
      @fragdude Місяць тому

      @@stormageddon248 DTS has def been helpful, but I get the feeling that the majority of people that come from it were brought in by off-track drama. Def not all, but there is only so much about the actual sport that is covered (and I don’t even blame the show - the management around the drivers/team peeps & how secretive they are makes any other angle harder to cover).
      That being said I definitely think there is still a lot more that could be done in terms of outreach. Could be stuff as simple as going to various other sporting events and getting in front of the camera and saying some stuff.
      Yea, Red Bull not being the team that wins definitely makes things way more interesting. Can’t forget that when Max was dominating he would put in fantastic drives that were great to watch + there would be a bunch of battles elsewhere on the grid.

Two different personalities. Max the young hothead, Lewis the cool, calm collected type, both legends and they changed the regs and ruined everything. But that’s f1. What's going on with his accent?
    I'm not a native English speaker so can somebody tell me what accent does he have? It's sounds sort of weird to me, maybe it's just very very posh or something...

    • @its_clean
      @its_clean 2 місяці тому +25

      Ollie does indeed have a unique accent. He is British born and bred, he probably started out speaking a semi-posh but not very remarkable Southern English dialect. He's from Chelmsford, which is the "posh" part of Essex, but certainly nothing compared to true upper-class places like Oxford or Sussex.
      But Ollie has been living in Modena for a few years, and spending a lot of time in Northern Italy as a Ferrari Academy driver, and it seems like he's adopted not only a bit of an Italian accent, but also some continental language quirks. For example, in a sentence where he lists a series of things, he often ends it with "...and things like this", which sounds more like something Charles Leclerc would say than a native Brit. A bog-standard Brit would instead stay "...and things like that", and Russell and Albon would idiosyncratically say "...and them things".
      Speaking of the similarity to Leclerc- honestly, to my ears Ollie's way of speaking sounds more French than Italian, which doesn't make sense considering he's living in Italy and not France, but that's just the way I hear it. Listen to Ollie say words like "year" or "person" - close your eyes and you might swear it was a French person speaking.
