Hi Sonia. Thank you for sharing this detailed video. I’m currently trying to file for the 65 yr old exemption and will follow this video. I turn 65 next year. Thank you for sharing.
Thank you so much! I am a first time home owner and forgot to do this when I moved in a month ago. I was advised to do the app but didn't have faith in it because of all the bad reviews. I was able to walk through this form with your help with ease. Thank you!
Thank you so much for taking the time to make this video! It saved me the headache of having to figure it out! It was a bit overwhelming so i youtubed it. I was able to fill out the form in 10 minutes after watching your video! Thanks againa
Hello. Is the deed of trust what I need to be looking at for the filing number? I submitted mine using the MIN number located on the deed of trust. And thank you for doing this video. I’ve used it for each step of my filing in Williamson County.
1 more question I got denied for 2021 since we moved in in May of that year. Is there a way to appeal that, or will I just get approved for 2022 ams 2023 now ?
under section 3 property info where do you find the model and manufactured home make of the home you bought? Im having trouble if someone can help please.
It is usually on the door or there is a metal plaque with the all that information on it somewhere on your home, but it is also in the paperwork when you purchased it.
Thanks for that information, you awesome... I'm also have a question 🤔, on the ownership of the house, I do have a wife, but I got a co-signer that is not my wife, who I gotta put in the form, as 50/50 ownership, my wife or the co coborrower
Thank you for reaching out. If. Texas is a community property state so even if your wife is not on the loan, she is still 50% owner. Is your co-borrower a non-occupying co-borrower?
After you submit the application how do you find out if it was approved? Can you start your taxes before it gets approved? I’m a first time homebuyer and I’m not sure
Hi Mary Beth thank you for contacting me. The Make, Model and ID number is for manufactured or mobile homes. You do not need that on a regular single-family home that is attached to the property. Mobile homes are considered personal property until attached to the lot then it becomes real property. I hope this answers your question. If you need further assistance feel free to give me a call at the number provided in the video.
Hi Ms. Trevino, I loved your video it’s so detailed! I do have a question, I have a deed of trust would I put the FHA Case # or the MIN number on the application ?
I apologize that I had not replied. I can locate it if you would like to text me the address. It is normally on the tax record or on the deed that was recorded and stamped.
@@stephanieramirez180 Most county clerk websites provide a record search. Deeds are public records. So you should be able to find it on your county clerk's website.
If I sold my home in September of 2020, moved in with my in laws while my new home was being built. Closed on new home in March of 2021. Will I answer yes to "Are you transferring an exemption from a previous residence?"
Hi Danielle, actually it would be no. The answer would be no. That is when you still have the other home under your name, Because more than likely the new owner already claimed homestead on it so you do not need to transfer. It would just me a new homestead exemption.
Hi - first off, thank you so much for this video! When I search the property, it still shows it under the previous owners even though it was closed on over a month ago. Do I have to file Form 50-114-A form as well then to claim ownership of the property first? We also have solar panels, so does that mean we can file the exemption for solar or wind-powered energy devices for even more of a tax break? For the percent ownership, would my husband and I both put 50% or 100%? Lastly, I know you mentioned uploading your driver's license to that form. Do my husband and I both need to upload ours? And will paper versions work or do we need to wait until the more proper ones are received? We just had our DMV visit to receive Texas licenses so our previous ones from Louisiana were taken and we were given paper versions for now. Thank you!
Hello, I got the answer, you put 100% for each. I know it sounds a little weird saying 100% and 100%, but it makes sense when one learns that this section is meant more to disclose the percentage of "interest" when the property is being owned by a non married couple, meaning 50% and 50% or any other percentage that amounts up to 100% altogether. So in a nutshell, the answer is to put 100% for you and 100% for your husband. I am posting the answer for whomever reads this later on.
is there a time limit to file a homestead exemption, for example my mom has had her property for 10+ years and i dont know if she has the exemption or not i would like to see if she could still apply if she doesnt.
Hello Sonia. I'm curious this is my domestic partner and I's first home (co-owned) in Texas. One application was sent to us - he is a 100% disabled Veteran - I'm confused on marital status : would I select single adult or Other ( individual who owns the property with others) - then states (If "Other" each occupant must make application % of ownership) - that's what confuses me. and If I do have to fill out a application of my own would I select general residence homestead? Than you in advance if you see my comment
hi - i just bought a house in texas and several have told me i can only apply for homestead exemption with my texas drivers license and can not use my texas id card but others say i can...it looks like the form does take the id card number. i just want to do it right. i dont have a drivers license and dont drive. do you know? thanks
I bought my house like 5 years ago or so. I never filled one of these out. Do you know where I could find the dates I bought my house or took residency??
Hi Sonia, thank you for the video. Could you please advise as I’m confused on the following. I got a home this year and closed mid March and I didn’t apply for homestead exemption until late April and waiting for the change. The previous owner already had it and it seems their appraisal was already chosen based on their homestead. As the county still hasn’t changed the deed under my name and my amount would be much higher should I just keep theirs for 2022? As there are only a few days to fight taxes. The county has not updated it yet and if I leave it as is, I would still have a lower value as it’s still under their exception. How does that work? I can’t find info on it only on how to file.
Hi Enrique, I apologize for delay in response. You would be claiming for 2022. As of January 2022 anyone who purchases a home can file for the exemption for that year as soon as they have their drivers license reflecting the new address. In 2021 the requirement was that you had to live in the some by December 31 to be able to apply for the following year. Feel free to reach out if you have any further questions.
@@Scene2008 Hi Luna, yes if you moved in the middle of the year then you will file the homestead for 2022 and then it will stay in place until you move.
Hi there, no that is the number they used to identify the file at the title company. The court record/filing number is the number on the deed when you get the filed copy back. If you provide the address, I may find it for you.
I have 2 quick questions, if I’m married, is my ownership percentage 100% or 50% if the mortgage is joint? Also… I have changed the address on my license but new card won’t be here for 3 weeks, can I use my license with old address and paper print out confirmation slip?
Hi Matthew, that is a great question. You do not need to be 65+ years old for the general residential homestead exemption. There is another exemption that people can take advantage of when they are 65+ years old. It is added when they reach that age. I hope this is helpful or you can email me at sonia@houstonhomeslegacy.com for more information.
