    Wow. Thanks. This opened my eyes to possibilities! Now I need to find a friend with a glow forge😉. Three questions: where do you source the acrylic and how thick is it? Or does the thickness not matter so much because you can layer them? When applying the thin ‘glue’ did you actively push on the bottle or did you let gravity do it? When you want to pull the bottle away, do you suck air in? I’m worried I would get drips at that point. And I know this might be a big ask but I would love to see the number 4 type of glue and the differences- even just in the bottle or on a scrap piece. Lastly- to tack the large medallion down, would it be an option to turn it over and tack it from the back so it won’t move and the drip potential is minimized - and then turn it over for the complete gluing? I’m afraid I would glob it or accidentally shift it. Btw how hard is it to shift the pieces during application? It seems like something that would happen to me when I attempt this. (Positivity right there!). I know this post was awhile ago, but if you see this please try and reply. Thank you and Thank You for sharing your knowledge. It’s very generous and speaks to who you are!

    • @ResinBelle
      @ResinBelle  Рік тому

      The acrylic is 1/8 inch or 1/4" and you can layer as many or as few as you need to. I bought it from the Glowforge store. The "glue" is very thin and evaporates very quickly. Repositioning is not an option. It works by "melting" the acrylic to itself. It's not a traditional "glue". Before starting you squeeze the excess air out of the bottle so that when you turn tip down air can slowly draw into the bottle keeping it from dripping. Squeeze is very slight, it comes out fast and easy, lightly release starts to draw air into bottle again to prevent drips. Hopefully that answered all your questions.

  • @immawoop7261

    I'm curious why you don't apply the glue to the outside to reduce the risk of it getting on the face as you stick the surround. Unless it's to ensure a complete seal on the inside so no silicone bleeds underneath 🤷‍♂️

    • @ResinBelle
      @ResinBelle  8 днів тому

      @@immawoop7261 that's it exactly, the silicone will seep into even a hairline gap, and then you have to spend time cleaning up your molds. If you make molds to sell it can mean a lot of extra time trimming.

    • @immawoop7261
      @immawoop7261 8 днів тому

      @ResinBelle I've spent the last couple of years making silicone moulds, but not from acrylic blanks. I've used the capillary action glue you're showing as I tend to use acrylic for bases and boxes, and boy do I know all about silicone finding every gap 🤣
      I now want to start making moulds for resin so acrylic blanks seems to be the way to go and this video was very helpful, thank you 😊
      Do you by chance have a video on round acrylic corners neatly and polishing it afterwards?? Or is it easier to do that with the resin afterwards??

    • @ResinBelle
      @ResinBelle  3 роки тому +2

      You can glue together as many sheet as you want. But I will say it's a huge pain to glue acrylic together and you want to do it in as few layers as you can. It's pretty difficult to get the edges lined up just perfectly and you will always have ridges along the edges of your mold that shows the different layers. The more layers you do the more ridges you will have on the mold sides that transfer to the final product

    Thank you! I'm about to do my first acrylic blank with frame and it helps so much to SEE what I understood would need to be done. Question - is there a reason to remove the masking of the blank before all the gluing? I would think it might protect the master a bit more and then peel it off once finished with the gluing? I use a plastic razor scraper to remove my masking.

    • @ResinBelle
      @ResinBelle  3 роки тому +1

      I think it really just comes down to personal preference. Though removing the paper is necessary before gluing some parts.

    • @ResinBelle
      @ResinBelle  5 місяців тому +1

      If you are talking about black acrylic the process is the same. If you are talking about making your engraved part black then before you peel off the protective film you can paint the engraved part with acrylic paint and let dry. Once dry then you peel off the protective film and you are done. Alternatively you can spray paint the engraved areas and then peel off the protective film.

    • @ResinBelle
      @ResinBelle  2 роки тому

      I believe it came with with adhesive as a set from Amazon, it's been a while since I bought it. It was nothing special. The main thing is to remember to squeeze the air out of the bottle before tipping it to apply glue. This gives you a certain amount of suction that you can controll with the squeeze. This stuff is so thin that it will flood out of any applicator.

      You can but the way the Glowforge works it blow a stream of air towards the laser to blow out any possible fire flairs, in doing so it can smoke stain or heat stain the acrylic as it cuts giving a ghost image that will come out in any mold you create from it. It's better to take the time to remove the tiny bits of paper after it's been Engraved. I hope that answers your question. Happy New Year
