4-5 months in Germany which includes 6 weeks Ship Transfer from Japan. Ordered my RAV4 in August with expected Delivery time of 12 months. Now i can Take it in january from my Dealer.
Well, the good thing about the Toyota eCVT is that it isn't really. It doesn't use belt and pulleys like a conventional CVT and will probably not fail before 100K KM like a normal cvt.
The good part (for existing owners at least) is the resale value. I sold my 2020 hybrid Cruiser last August to the same Toyota dealership I bought it from for $3000 less than what I paid for it, with about 65000km on it.
There are facebook support groups dedicated to helping people deal with their frustration while waiting for their Rav4 orders. Tells you how bad people want this.
I got myself a used 2008 Toyota RAV4 instead and am loving it! Heaps of cheap ones available everywhere on Marketplace and all I did to make it feel 15 years newer is add an Android Auto/ Apple CarPlay stereo. Best part of all is that I didn’t have to wait at all and paid the car for in cash to eliminate any financial stress.
Hi there, I am shocked that you in Australia have to wait so long for a car after order is done. In Romania, Europe, there is an waiting time of max 4-5 months after the down payment is given. We are not in 2020-2021 anymore. I am really surprised. All the best and greetings from Europe.
Who in the world would buy a car and have to wait 24months before it gets delivered! It's a Rav 4, not some exotic limited edition car. By the time you get it, most likely a new model would have come out and the cycle continues, yet consumers are happy to do it.
Thanks guys. Fun video! Future owners should know of these issues: Car is NOT quiet. Any hybrid powertrain makes for an unrefined experience overall. We also own a gas Corolla Cross and that is much quieter overall. Road noise is above average. Interior is quite plasticky. And if you have heated steering wheel, it is extremely hot with only one level. We still recommend gas for everyone until electric is mainstream.
We are picking up a RAV4 hybrid this weekend. We had ordered and were waiting for a Corolla Cross but suddenly needed a car. The local Toyota dealer could not find a Corolla Cross available but had two new RAV4 hybrids available. After a test drive we agreed to buy one. I hope we like it as I did have my heart set on a Corolla Cross.
I ordered a rav4 cruiser hybrid awd. Dealer said 24 months. I'm currently driving a mg zst top spec, not happy with it for a multitude of reasons. But it will do the job for 2 years until they tell me the car has arrived. Most likely be a new version of the car by the time I get it. And probably will be 10k more then the price I have been quoted which is 60k. Compared this review to car expert review with Paul who said it's not a good car. So hard to believe these reviewers until you drive it yourself.
Interesting you say you drive an mg zst top spec but aren’t happy with it .I’m in the same position.I also own an mg zst but not entirely happy with it .Might trade in next year .
I have a 2023 awd cruiser. It's a great car. Almost 1000km on full tank. Good suspension on smooth and Bumpy roads except when u hit ditches. Great safety technology all coming standard, with heat and cooled front seats. 360 camera is awesome. Lots of rear space and the boot is way bigger than a cx5 or even a cx60. In a straightline it's not a slow car when u putit in sport mode
Paul at Car Expert reviewed this car when it first came out and was blown away by how good it was. He couldn't praise it enough. I'm surprised in his new review that he preferred the Nissan Xtrail hybrid. Most other reviewers said the Xtrail hybrid isn't as good as the RAV4 hybrid drivetrain. I have the 2023 RAV Hybrid Cruiser. It is an excellent car. The only fault is the engine is a bit noisy under hard acceleration. Other than that it is the best car I have owned by far.
You're right, it is annoyingly good - they just need to get their act together and build some of the damn things. Anyway, hope you both have a good Christmas, love your work.
I ordered one 6 months ago the time frame was around 12 months delivery...but I just couldn't wait and bought the latest Kona that was already in stock and drove it away in a couple of days . Sad story because I was keen on the Toyota but like most things people nowadays are used to instant gratification.
Honestly I was into this car till the time I was told 23 months wait. I ended up buying Haval H6 hybrid and trust me if I say it , I do not regret at all . Even though there are some quirks with the car which there are in every car no matter what you buy , I am very happy . Just disnt have the patience to wait for 24 months.
I bought my RAV4 Hybrid Cruiser in early 2021 and it got delivered just before Xmas 2021. Oh what a Xmas present🎉. 2 years down the track and still so good. Super cheap servicing from Toyota and amazing fuel economy. Superb handling (for an SUV), good power and loads of space. The only thing that is possibly better is the RAV4 Prime. Unfortunately not available in Oz.😢 It such great value too, you’d think the rest of the industry would just have copied it, but no it’s still miles ahead.
I just imported a plug in version the Prime , from Japan , way more powerful 220kw and 80/90 kms on ev motor , it’s great and I can get it in 3 month max if I want another
Its not a long time to wait, the mpg is actually good unlike other rivals. Drove rav4 hybrid, hyundai tuscon, kia sportage and i actually got 50mpg kia sportage i got 40mpg
Jacob absolutely mustn't stop shooting his jokes :D, even the little girl behind the wheel, who hasn't even finished elementary school yet, had to subtly smile at the jokes. By the way, this car is immediately available here in the Czech Republic without any problems, just for the sake of interest.
RAV4 Hybrid wait time no longer 24 months, maybe immediate available depends on which trim. For Hybrid, maximum 1-4 months only. Bought one from Phil Gilbert Croydon. Call Eddy or Stanley, they gave me weather shield and cargo mat for FREE. Not advisetment, just first time to deal with Phil Gilbert. Oh, they gave me 3 Yr FREE service as well.
The Dealer First said 12 months but it got delayed to 24 months 😭😭 (for xse awd) Edit: we picked the awd because the fwd was 18 months (from the dealer)
Ok, its a good car basically unchanged for 5 or 6 years although infotainment a huge improvement, but pointless reviewing it its not available although i like you guys dont try to pretend it is available like some other reviewers
It must be a regional thing? I walked into my dealer here in the states and bought a limited trim Rav 4 Hybrid and they even gave it to me for invoice. Drove it away
So, let me get this right. Tomorrow, I walk into my local Toyota showroom and place my order for the hybrid. Said salesperson, (he/she/they/them/him/her) gleefully accepts my non-cash deposit (as cash is prohibited now) without even blinking an eyelid and informs me of said, two year waiting period. As I turn to leave, I question if at that time, will I receive all the expected design/software/running gear updates indicative of a 2026 model, or is my car a current 2024 model about to be built as my order is now put in a queue. Basically, am I receiving a 2024 model in 2026??
No, you get the model that arrives off the boat at the then price Toyota want to charge you. Putting down a refundable deposit just gets you in a queue for an unknown spec at an unknown list price with an unknown dealer mark-up, to be delivered at an unknown date. But the good news is that it will be a Toyota Rav 4 Hybrid. But what if you get to the head of the queue in 2 years time and you can’t cop the then price? Your current car has got an extra 2 years of depreciation and all the available new cars have 2 years of price rises on them compared to current prices…
You will get the model they currently make, so if the redesign RAV4 comes out the dealership will usually call you and ask if you want to upgrade to the redesigned model.
@carsauce I notice you didn't mention not being able to adjust the height of the passenger seat. Did you find headroom an issue at all? Not sure how tall you guys are.
To be honest it’s less about the badge and more about the drivetrain, a regular petrol RAV4 is ~12 month wait, Hybrids (both FWD and AWD) are around ~18-24 months
That’s ridiculous you have to wait that long. they have them available in lots where I’m from and I’m glad bc I was able to shop around for one that I liked and it wasn’t that expensive.
My main longer trip might be 600km return with no recharge option at midpoint. So say 550km on fuel at 6.5l /100km is roughly 36l so $65 plus the initial charge cost, still pretty good.
Love Toyota but its grossly overrated. Not worth the wait imo. 24 mos? Thats freakin crazy! By the time to got it there are already newer models cruising lol. Got the new Kia Sportage instead and love it
I have a 2021 RAV4 Cruiser, and yes, it’s a reliable car and is unbelievably economical to run. However, it is so boring to drive that I honestly can’t handle it anymore. If you’re not a car person, then by all means get a RAV4, but if you are a car person, choose something else.
I've mentioned this before with motoring journos what's the point of reviewing a car manufacturer cant supply unless you want immediate delivery not a prob via a scalper with a 10k premium over the rrp
Only problem is this is being replaced in 2025. And the new model will likely be a massive upgrade. If you place an order now may likely get a 2025 model and likely to have a price increase
The real life combined fuel consumption is 6,8 l/100 km!!!! I use it in city and on speedways, in Europe. Speedways are the real enemy of this car. At 130 km/h the appetite is well above 7,5 l/100 km, way above 8 l in the alps. The biggest issue is the huge noise and vibration of the engine at speedway tempo. The cabin is cheaply insulated, the wheels, wind and engine noise make you feel like you drive at 180-200 km/h. This is a practical, affordable family car, but avoid speedways or drive with the trucks in the slow lane to spare fuel. Not a bad car, but highly overrated by US and AUS reviews. BTW most of the facelift was already introduced in the 2023 Europen lineup. Along with the cheap rear turning signal bulb.
It could be because in AUS most states the highest limit on speedways is 110 km/h, so the fuel consumption and noise are not that bad compared to Europe. My experience was around 6.5-6.8 l/100km on a 110 km/h motorway.
Styling is awful why don’t the black wheel arch’s merge into the bottom door sill & bumpers like every other car? Looks like a parts bin car. I’d just go down to the Mazda dealer & buy a CX-5 with no waiting time & spend the $3K for the hybrid on fuel
It's not just the fuel but the range. Who wants to refill every 450km on the CX-5... I get 950km per fill up on the RAV4. Not to mention the space, the tech, the remote services app. The Mazda drives better, sure. But you're stuck with a rotary knob for the screen and old school gauges and it's cramped af.
Absolute waste of money. It’s unrefined, noisy, bland driving experience for the money, there’s other SUVs that are nicer to drive and overpriced servicing.
Incomparable to toyota's system. The hydrid cvt is totally different from the cvt transmission. Mazda's hydrids are nt close to the efficiency of the rav4
Honestly, you can buy a used Q5 or Q7 diesel for this sort of money....and yes, servicing is higher, but not out of reach through a good euro independent and the driving experience, refinement, power, economy and build quality is lightyears ahead.
A used Q7.. isn't that a notorious money pit?? People who are looking to get into a new Toyota are looking for the opposite of what a used audi Q buyer would be looking for. A used audi buyer is willing to deal with potentially huge headaches for a nicer driving experience when it works.
Why does every car journo have to "brake boost" it on launch. On a non-turbo car. Or even worse, an electric. You're holding your foot on the brake to build boost in an imaginary turbocharger? The car doesn't even have a torque converter to stall up... its a CVT. You guys are bang on about incandescent bulbs instead of LEDs, surely in the 24 months of waiting they could have figured out LEDs. Penny pinching at its best, like no drivers seat map pocket.
I wouldn't buy a Rav 4 with a 1 month wait as they are not that great. The claimed economy is false unless you only drive 100 km. Try a 1000 km and return trip, then see the real economy figures.😊
My main longer trip might be 600km return with no recharge option at midpoint. So say 550km on fuel at 6.5l /100km is roughly 36l so $65 plus the initial charge cost, still pretty good overall. What other vehicles of similar size can offer that kind of return ?
I'd rather walk than sit in another Toyota ever again. 50k for that is insanity. The plastics are nearly as bad as a hilux and thr cvt is the final nail in the coffin.
I waited 18 months and by god it was worth it. They’re amazing

Well, the good thing about the Toyota eCVT is that it isn't really. It doesn't use belt and pulleys like a conventional CVT and will probably not fail before 100K KM like a normal cvt.
It’s a very clever system using only cogs, also it doesn’t have many other often failing parts such as alternators, turbochargers all that other shite

Walked into a dealership yesterday. They have a cavalry blue xse hybrid coming in a few days. Reserved it at msrp.
Is it cavalry blue or mineral blue? I only see mineral blue available in Aus

Hey matt, which exact badges are the ones with 24 month wait? I think the edge or the GX should have shorter waits compared to the gxl and cruiser/xse

If you're really keen on the orange interior, get the Edge. There's little to no difference between the Cruiser and the Edge.
I don't think there are fog lights 'across the board'.. LE and XLE don't have them, only start with XLE premium

Absolute waste of money. It’s unrefined, noisy, bland driving experience for the money, there’s other SUVs that are nicer to drive and overpriced servicing.
Rather a Mazda cx5 or cx60 if after a hybrid. RAV4 has a hateful CVT box
Incomparable to toyota's system. The hydrid cvt is totally different from the cvt transmission. Mazda's hydrids are nt close to the efficiency of the rav4
It has a E-CTV and has no chain and really is not a CTV, have a look at a video of the internals, its an amazing gearbox..... well Gearlessbox.
@@AMLagondathe Toyota hybrid “E” cvt has a brilliant planetary “geared” cvt, which is completely different to a belt driven cvt
Hi i teally enjoy your video but i have a question for you?.
What kind of video camera you use during driving attach to your chest
Only 4mth wait 6mths to 12mths for edge
I waited 16 days lol
Here is your solution, buy yourself a Mazda cX-5
I wouldn't buy a Rav 4 with a 1 month wait as they are not that great. The claimed economy is false unless you only drive 100 km. Try a 1000 km and return trip, then see the real economy figures.😊
My main longer trip might be 600km return with no recharge option at midpoint. So say 550km on fuel at 6.5l /100km is roughly 36l so $65 plus the initial charge cost, still pretty good overall. What other vehicles of similar size can offer that kind of return ?
must be a euro problem i walked in and got mine and out within an hour
I'd rather walk than sit in another Toyota ever again. 50k for that is insanity. The plastics are nearly as bad as a hilux and thr cvt is the final nail in the coffin.
The brilliantly engineered planetary “E” cvt, is one of the main reasons I have ordered a hybrid RAV 4.
I nearly p!ssed myself when you went on your temper tantrum...

Shit car, old interior. better to buy modern design Kia and Hyundai.
the sh*t car you are talking about are the two makes that you recommended
Too bad it's so ugly.
