You should have mentioned how important it was for Uruguay to have won the gold medals in the Olympic Games in Paris 1924 and Amsterdam 1928. That was pivotal and esential for the World Cup to be created.

It's not a bad summary. This is a succinct description of Uruguay's beginnings in football. The Brits also tried with Cricket and it didn't take hold (Peñarol was originally a cricket club), but soccer was an easy sport to integrate society, low cost, and lots of fun. Nowadays it is definitely a sport that enables upward mobility for some of the exceptional players. The French went crazy with Andrade "the black marvel"...I believe they were the ones who called him that during the 1924 Olympics in Paris. That is the first star in our shirt (no FIFA yet). Then Argentina joined us to cross the Atlantic for 1928 Olympics in Amsterdam. We also won that (second star on shirt). We then missed some tournaments b/c we were ticked some countries didn't travel to Uruguay (Italy), and WWII. After 1954, I think we began to find it harder to compete. We were a lot less than 3.5 million back then also.

Peñarol was founded in 1891 whereas Nacional was founded in 1899, so Peñarol was the first football team in uruguay. Still, FIFA recognizes those 2 championships, making Uruguay 4 times champion.

Our beloved US Team did not make the world cup this year. But Carlos, what are you talking about? Uruguay won the most copa Americas followed by Argentina, There have been only 3 editions of Copa America where neither Argentina nor Uruguay finish in the top four (1949, 1979, 1997) Please advice which country has a better soccer/futbol record and let me know? Uruguay has won more international soccer/futbol Championships than any other country. 20 in total. 15 of those are Copa America. Uruguay has won 4 fifa world championships and a FIFA mini world cup of all previous champions and has reached the quarter finals in the last 3 fifa world cups and the Semi finals as resent as 2010. Uruguay beat Argentina in the last Copa America that was played in Argentina When MESSI was at his peak, knocking out Argentina in Argentina and eventually Uruguay won that Copa America. Uruguay's latest world cup squad is formed with absolute top world class players front back and middle with world class players on the bench and a youth squad that will keep making world class players for the foreseeable future.

Argentina's problem is political not sport related. We have that issue sorted out now but we too had many problems with it back in the 1970s when wonder players like Luis Cubilla or Pedro Rocha were deemed as traitors for playing abroad. Today every player who wears the Celeste jersey is Uruguayan no matter where he plays and people respects him as such. Our ladies tho, are way way behind the boys because they have a huge socioeconomic problem because women football is not nearly as relevant in South America and this is specially true in Uruguay where even the male league is one of the poorest in the continent for lack of sponosors.

We were rised by blood of rebbels, of revolutionary leaders. We were rised to love our flag and land. Football here in South America means more than just a sport. Because every match feels like a battle, and a fight for the glory Uruguay once conquered.
We wouldnt win a war against our neigbors, but certanly we wouldnt let it be a easy battle, as same on sports. We are a small sized country, but our hesrts and will to fight everyfay on our daily life its what keep us going. We fight every single ball if it is the last, and the same idiology we reflect on our daily basys. Thank you for the video. We dont need recognition on where we are on a map. • @lucasastor6814

So, then, all these institutions, FIFA, CONMEBOL, AUF are wrong and you know more than them?
      www.xn--pearol-xwa.org/uc_361_1.html
Peñarol was founded in 1891, as every organization in the world and the law itself says. Just there are a few people that prefer to create their own world with their own rules.
Not something to discuss here. By the way, really good video!

Curcc wasn't even a football team back then, and it was Curcc that merged into Peñarol, not the other way around. Otherwise, Peñarol would be called Curcc, which it isn't

    • @maxirodriguez8376
      @maxirodriguez8376 6 років тому +1

That is completely incorrect in the whole meaning. I invite you to read about Uruguayan's football history, and obviously, about CURCC, which you think it had not a football team, but played in the football competitions (I don´t know how, if what you said is even true). The problem is the information you don't have about the matter. It is written in history, and you cannot just avoid it.
Another interesting thing you said is why is it not called CURCC today, and it is similar than asking why "Real Madrid CF" is not called "Madrid FC" today. Just read the information about that club's name change. Even Club Nacional de Football's president was there when CURCC changed its name, and signed twice for the legal movement. Club Nacional de Football also send Club Atlético Peñarol a letter congratulating its 25 year aniversary in 1916 (modified to add the complete letter):
      www.google.com.uy/search?q=nacional+celebra+los+25+a%C3%B1os+de+pe%C3%B1arol&rlz=1C1CHZL_esUY752UY752&tbm=isch&source=iu&ictx=1&fir=3Q9tlmsNykUQ0M%253A%252C4W-6xNCHvso05M%252C_&usg=__5KJp2QNDrqNPdLk4OUIvSmjq7kQ%3D&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwi55Y-pmIbcAhULl5AKHfuLAMgQ9QEIbTAL#imgrc=YdOBe69yvR_zxM:
I don't think that Club Nacional de Football didn't know when it's most important rival was born, don't you?
That's all for now. Law is written. History is written. Let's not repeat what it is written in history here, let people read and investigate by themselves. Pleas don't live in an imaginary world, you can live in the real world. The first football team in Uruguay was Albion Football Club, we all must know that.

I wish I knew who was the narrator to thank her/them, for the effort in correctly pronouncing the "Ñ" (like "gn" in "lasagna"; it is not a "N" sound like most English-speakers prnounce it), the "LL" (not al "L" sound, but the "J" sound in "James") and evey Spanish word in general, even putting the accent where it belongs... Most of the time, Spanish is misspronounced by English-speakers, even those from Latinamerican background. So I really appreciated the effort and she/them did a great job!

The success of the New Zealand 'All Blacks' rugby union team is also contributed by the inclusiveness of the sport in all reaches of society in New Zealand, where is crosses race, class and background. Rugby union is considered to be an upper class sport in Europe. Also, similarly as soccer/football is a part of Uruguay's national identity, rugby union is a part of New Zealand's national identity.

Uruguayan football didn't thrilled behind Brazil at any point in time before 1958. Up to the 1960s they were sort of even and Uruguay was superior until 1949. It was Argentina that was better than Uruguay but their lack of a propper defense in the midfield allowed Uruguay to win many times over them even tho the Argentinians played an attractive form of football.
