More often than not a teacher will ask his / her class, "do you understand, ?" and the brightest kids will all nod their heads.....
A better way is, "put up your hand if you do not understand." It might take a little humility on the part of those that don`t get it, but sooner or later we are all humbled by Mathematics.

This video is where my journey began . I'm sitting here teaching my Special Education Algebra 2 course 6 years later and I had a some free time and decided to look at Professor Leonard's videos. His numbers have skyrocketed . This is well deserved for the Calculus SUPERHERO. If it wasn't for these videos I would have changed my major!!! He doesn't skip steps and his lesson align with James Stewarts textbook. Thank You for helping me become a teacher. The journey got tougher , but you laid down the sturdy foundation. You may never read this, still stopping by to show you some love.

Honestly he's the best UA-cam maths teacher/tutor I ever seen. My family cannot afford me to go tutor and this to me is like a personal tutor. Learning from him will help me compete with students in my A class since 90% of them have real life tutor and I don't. Currently in year 10 and hopefully learning calculus from him will give me an edge in Advanced Maths course in year 11 when calculus is being taught.

I think the best way how to explain what a function is, is to use visual representation like it is done in system dynamics. Basically, you have 2 elements ( input and output), and something that transforms these inputs into outputs. That something is the function, which represents that transformational relationship between those elements mathematically. A lot of students are confused by the "classical" explanation of what a function is, used by math teachers, because they don't understand its uses. But once they realize that is a relationship or a law which transforms inputs into outputs, that is much easier for them to grasp.

It's night and day in terms of how easy it is to understand. The students probably already have an idea of practical problems that the equations relate to.

I recently came across your videos and I must say I loved it. Your humor and enthusiasm are just in another level. Thank you so much for sharing your talents and help others to success in life. I am going to take calc 1 in my next semester and was scared, since I dropped it once, but now I am pretty confident that I will be able to pass with good grades. Again, thanks a lot and may Allah bless you!

I'm going back to college after 15+ years after leaving and going a different direction with my life. I'm starting back at Calc 1 right away. I'm terrified. But watching this makes me feel like I'll be ok. I'm going to follow along with this course every week along with my regular lectures. This is an amazing resource.

@1:30:00 ---> That box volume Domain.... I think we must exclude 0 and and and make it open interval ... so equal to 0 and equal to 8 won't be included in the domain..... as practically it isn't possible to make a box if the cut length =0 and also cut length equal to either of the sides' half length... if you include x=8 then that cardboard piece will become another rectangle of size 16X14 rather than a box..... Please correct me if I am worng
