There is a 1961 movie starring Tony Curtis called "The Great Imposter". It's the true story of Ferdinand Demara who did pose in a variety of professions including a US Navy surgeon. It's a fun watch.
I was production manager at an event that Frank Abignail spoke at, before this movie came out. He had everybody fooled. The movie studio, police, Johnny Carson, me... everybody believed his story.
👏👏👏👏 Yep, all of it is completely made up. To mention just one, he couldn't have been an on call overnight paediatrician at the time he claims because the hospital concerned didn't even have such a position, nor was there a midnight to 8am shift. Further, that at the time he says he was at Cobb Hospital, he was in prison in New York.
A GREAT con film is The Sting with Robert Redford (Jermiah Johnson) and Paul Newman (Butch Cassidy). Also has Robert Shaw (the Captain of the Orca, Quint). It is a FUN film (mostly).
You mentioned that you have not yet reacted to any of the James Bond movies. Another great reaction Marie like always. This movie its so good its one of my favourites, and what a deluxe cast. And some fun-facts about this movie, it took 22 years for the book to be turned into a movie. And Frank Abagnale admits that the story was way exaggerated. Carl Hanratty is based on several FBI agents who pursued Frank Abagnale, mostly one named Joseph Shea. If it were true-to-life, christopher walken would hardly be in this movie. In real life, Abagnale never saw his father again after he ran away. But Spielberg wanted to have Frank Jr. continue to seek his father's approval, to show up in his Pan Am uniform to impress him and seek advice from him. Jennifer Garner only had to work for one day. Spielberg had seen Jennifer Garner on Alias and thought she was about to become a big star. He was pleased that she was willing to take such a small role in his movie, and she was probably pleased, too: it only required a day of shooting. The film’s score was composed by the legendary John Williams, known for his iconic collaborations with Spielberg. Williams’ music enhances the movie’s suspenseful moments and injects emotion into the heartfelt scenes, creating an unforgettable cinematic experience. Frank Abagnale Jr. appears in a cameo role as a French police officer in the film. I think this adds an intriguing layer of authenticity to the movie, as the audience gets a glimpse of the real-life con artist. Keep up the good work.
One of the themes Spielberg continually returns to in his movies is the theme of fatherhood. This movie is about a boy raised by a bad birth father (Christopher Walken's character) and how, after finding a good adoptive father (Tom Hanks' character), he is able to reform his life. He says to his birth father at one point, "Ask me to stop" (to stop the scamming and lying, which, by the way, his birth father initiated him into as a boy). And his father replies, "You can't stop." Then, at another point, he says to his adoptive father, "Stop chasing me!" To which his adoptive father replies, "I can't stop." In other words, his birth father refuses to discipline his son in the ways of right conduct, but his adoptive father refuses to stop disciplining his son in the ways of right conduct. That's the difference between a good father and a bad one.

What Dawn Marie doesn't get about the transaction between Frank and the call girl is that Frank not only got her "services" for free, he actually MADE A PROFIT off of her. She gave him real money in exchange for a fake check.
I heard an interview with him which was aired on BBC radio 4 about 30yrs ago. If I remember rightly he did impersonate being a lawyer, a university professor, a pilot not sure about a physician? He was caught fraudulently cashing cheques but when the relevant agencies realised that he had a very high IQ, they thought it would be better to use him as a employee rather than have him rot away in jail. Having said that...he could have been lying to the person conducting the interview I listened to?
@@DawnMarieX I owned the security company that secured the film location. They actually built an entire airport terminal in an enormous Palmdale, CA hanger where they (Skunkworks) developed our top secret aircraft. It had marble floors, escalators, shops, restaurants and hundreds of extras and you would swear you were in a real airport. Steven Spielberg was afraid that pictures of it would leak before the movie came out so we had to wand everyone going in and make sure they left their phones in their cars. No pictures were leaked. Tom Hanks is a really nice man. At the beginning of the work week he had his assistant give each of my security officers a lottery ticket. I told Tom that I could lose my entire team if they pooled and someone won I then asked Tom what size uniform he wears in case that happened. We did a great job on a lot of films but that one was our best.

most of this hasn't happened but real people without medical training impersonating doctors and not getting found for years has really happened a lot of times, even in hospitals

The "The Mummy" chick! I love that one! Thanks for uploading! Greetings from Sweden
Really happy you're doing this one, Dawn. It's been one of my favorite movies for a while. I remember when I was really young a long time ago seeing Frank on a talk show with Johnny Carson discussing his life. I was absolutely Blown Away by what this man had done. At the time he was doing the interview he was still currently working with the FBI.
Frank Abignale Jr was also a contestant on the popular 60's TV game show "To Tell the Truth." Here's the full episode. ua-cam.com/video/KADbMspi3Ck/v-deo.htmlsi=mx9V3ibti25XCyPz
18:03 I know the story is fictional, but I find very interesting how the mom gives away all the information about his son without a warrant, while the father is very protective. The way I heard it, Frank Abignale is a real con artist who helped banks to design security features to prevent people like him from using the same methods, (now everything seems to be electronic), but the rest of the story is on itself, a con created by Frank to sell books, which peeked interest of Spielberg, who bought the rights to the movie, making his con even more profitable.
The rest of story really isn't all a con by Abignail, only some of it. The spirit of the narrative is true but the facts and details are not. The main points in the story are all still correct.
He learned how to behave like a doctor and a lawyer from watching TV shows like "Marcus Welby, MD" and "Perry Mason". "Ballsy" doesn't even begin to describe the nerve of this guy. The real Frank Abignail also chose less high-profile jobs and that would have made more sense to most people in the con game. The REAL important theme of the story is the strange bond between Hanraddy and Abignail. The fact that Hanraddy ultimately had the power to destroy Abignail and chose a very different track was a huge twist to end the story.
Hey Dawn! Looking wonderful! While this is a good movie, the greatest lie that Frank ever told was, in fact, the story he told that was then made into this movie. By the way, it's not your fault that you thought this was a movie based on a true story, even Steven Spielberg, who directed it thought the same at the time, as did pretty much anyone who watched it. The movie has, since then, to be a hoax story in itself. It began when Frank was on a TV show. The idea of the game show was that there would be three people, each telling of some job the did and some remarkable things that would happen. Two of them would lie while one of them would be telling the truth. The contestants then had to guess who the truth teller was. Of course, Frank's story was the one that was made into this movie. So, in reality, all three people on the show had lied. Because of that show, though, Frank would be interviewed by a great many people, often famous ones, and he, of course, became a hit! The attention and money he got meant that he couldn't reveal the lie as that fane and money would all end. As mentioned, since then, it has been proven that it was all mostly a lie. Still, it did make for an interesting movie even though the story itself was the hoax! A great reaction as always! Have a Really wonderful day, take care! ❤
It's called confidence. If you talk from a position of authority or expertise in a tone of confidence, you can get just about anyone to believe you or at least go along with you. If you don't have that confidence, it would never work.
Another excellent based on a true story movie to check out is The Insider, starring Russell Crowe and Al Pacino, about a former executive turned whistleblower against the tobacco industry. It is great.
There was a TV series based on the "idea" of this movie called White Collar. It's about the really terrific young conman and forger who ends up working for the FBI and the agent who caught him in taking down other criminals. The acting in that series was amazing!! Highly recommend it!

Frank Jr. did a presentation for my company just a short time before I started working for them. My buddy said it was quite interesting. Like another commenter said, I heard the story in the movie was full of fantasies, not truth.
All true and more read the book by Frank... I did before there even was a movie. Also this was the 50's and 60's no digital only a paper world. Cheers!
😎👍 Check out the movie "Pennies From Heaven" (1981) if you want to see Christopher Walken like you've never seen him before. 😉 In the early 2000s, Steven Spielberg was really on a roll. Besides this, there was "A.I." (2001), "Minority Report" (2002), "The Terminal" (2004) and "War Of The Worlds" (2005). All well worth watching.
the movie about tag was called "TAG" imagine that for a title lol he has the cofidence which iswht him and his father are called a confidence man or, conman
Actually back before the USA got "complicated" after WWI a lot of people became engineers, dentists, MDs, etc simply by reading a few books, taking a few classes and printing up a sign. Many who screwed up just kept moving to other towns and setting up again (Doc Holiday was a dentist and a gunslinger). Licensing was quite lax. I would imagine it was similar in places like the outback Australia. In the 1960s it would have been tougher, but not impossible. Now over the internet everyone is something outrageous that they invent whole cloth. And apparently ducking out is even easier.

Hi Dawn. Been enjoying your reactions for months now but this is my first time writing. If you enjoyed this movie, "Catch Me . . .", an absolutely fun solid "con movie", there are many more better. Create your own reaction sub-genre, darlin! (Con movies being a sub-genre of crime movies.) The best of the best, in my humble opinion, is "The Sting." After that, "Matchstick Men", "Paper Moon" and "The Grifters" (the latter of which is quite dark.) Alongside those would be, also amazing but absolutely comedy crazy funny "Dirty Rotten Scoundrels." Start with The Sting and go from there :) Keep up the fun work 😃

I read his book (same title) long before the movie and the story is pretty much the same. It's based on the book, sure, but the highlights are all there.
1:51 "No way it's a true story." So, there's multiple layers to this. The movie made a handful of small alterations from the book. The real Abagnale claims the biographer made up significant portions of the book. Pretty much everything we know Abagnale has claimed has questionable veracity (no record of passing the bar exam) and some have even been shown to be impossible or clear fabrications (such as claiming to have been in prison when records clearly show he wasn't). In short, it's a movie that takes liberties with a half-invented biography based on an interview full of lies. It's a really fun movie, though.
What I read in an article about the movie and story is that the investigator, who was either a journalist or a self-appointed investigator of stories, was that they, the person investigating Frank's story, could find no substantial evidence whatsoever, that any of Frank's tall tale was factual. So it would seem, Frank Abignale Jr.'s biggest scam was selling this made up story to Spielberg to turn into a movie, giving Abignale a bunch of money and even more fame.
Not true. The main points of the story were proven true: Abignail really did assume fake identities and con people using these fake positions, he was eventually caught and he did end up being hired to recognize fake checks and help to improve the safety features on checks. All of that was proven. Who really cares about the other details? The same type of real-life story has happened with several former con-men. These days, it's prominent with former computer hackers.
Frank Abignale has written a number of books, including the memoir "Catch Me if You Can." If you want to know how much of the movie is true, I would read the memoir.
But he was a con man good enough to fool a Hollywood studio, director, producers, and star actors, enough into making a real fake movie, while making real money off of it.
It is said that peeling labels off things is a sign of inner tension, typically a specific kind. A simple search with any search engine will explain what the AI would be trained to ignorantly weed out. There are most certainly people who lie compulsively and convincingly, that often. A review of the USA's most previous president will educate anyone on the realities of compulsive liars on Earth. Wonderful to see so much respect for such a well presented story. Thank you.

Having said that...he could have been lying to the person conducting the interview I listened to?

I'd love to see Dawn watch The Terminal. My personal favorite of the Tom Hanks / Steven Spielberg movies.
On it!
@@DawnMarieX you never watched The Marx Brothers Movie 'Go West' : (
A good early Christopher Walken movie is The Dead Zone and later (kinda creepy) PROPHECY and a funny one THE RUN DOWN also staring The Rock!! Great Reaction Lady Dawn!! Peace 🕊️☮️♾️😎
Not sure if you've seen this movie, but "Man on Fire" is a great film with Christopher Watkin as always great supporting actor. You should also youtube his Saturday Night Live performances when he guest hosts he's in many classic skits (including what might be one of the best "more cow bell".
I think the "tag" movie you were thinking of was called "Gotcha" (great movie).
27:35 "Frank, your father's dead."
Right. Shit. Forgot about that part.
13:19 comment Movie Christopher Walken, Balls Of Fury.-Ernie Moore Jr.
A GREAT movie!! 😊 It really is kind of what you talked about😅❤
Nice reaction. If you like Christopher Walken,, I hope you watched "Deer Hunter". This was his breakout role.
Nice! I love this movie! Madness! But completely a hoot!
Hope you enjoy!
@@DawnMarieX i watch on my TV while I text you on my phone.
A mind-bending movie to check out down the line: 'INCEPTION'. Amazing film. Also with Leonardo DiCaprio!
Another movie I recommend with a real story kind of like this one is "I love you Phillip Morris". It's with Jim Carrey in the lead role of the con man Steven Russel and Ewan McGregor plays Phillip Morris.
most of this hasn't happened but real people without medical training impersonating doctors and not getting found for years has really happened a lot of times, even in hospitals
20:21: Hard to tell, but I think it is the TV show Perry Mason.
Took me a while to realize I haven't seen this movie! Thought I had. So either I've mixed it up with something else or I've forgotten everything about it. Or have I been conned? :O
For another great con movie (perhaps with less realtion to reality) I recommend The Brothers Bloom, with Adrien Brody, Mark Ruffalo and Rachel Wei... Weish? Weisz? The "The Mummy" chick! I love that one!
Thanks for uploading! Greetings from Sweden
Really happy you're doing this one, Dawn. It's been one of my favorite movies for a while. I remember when I was really young a long time ago seeing Frank on a talk show with Johnny Carson discussing his life. I was absolutely Blown Away by what this man had done. At the time he was doing the interview he was still currently working with the FBI.
My favourite Christopher Walken movie is The Prophecy! His character makes the Movie!! 🤫
😆
Frank Abignale Jr was also a contestant on the popular 60's TV game show "To Tell the Truth."
Here's the full episode.

I know the kid who did the bad French reading. Brilliantly funny guy.
I'm enjoying watching you watching this movie more than I enjoyed the movie itself.
The fact that Hanraddy ultimately had the power to destroy Abignail and chose a very different track was a huge twist to end the story.
love this one
Fantastic Christopher Walken movie recommendation:
The Dead Zone
Thought you should know the beginning of this movie is from an old game show tv America called to tell the truth
It's called confidence. If you talk from a position of authority or expertise in a tone of confidence, you can get just about anyone to believe you or at least go along with you. If you don't have that confidence, it would never work.
And a great movie about the game of confidence and grifting is the Sting 1973.
Also called ”social engineering.”
That’s why they call them CONfidence Men…..
That's the whole basis of politics and advertisers.
One of my absolute favorite shows
Yes it’s a great show
Watch a movie about Kevin Mitnik. In Australia it was called "Takedown" it is about an American hacker that got thrown in jail and now works for a Computer security company, Similar story
A real life game of tag?!
Never been, but I have seen Monty Python's olympic hide and seek
There is a true movie about childhood friends playing tag into their 40’s -50’s I forget the title.. something like ‘ your it’….. Anyway it has Jeremy Renner, Ed Helms, John Hamm, it’s a fun watch as well…
Tom Hanks had very few dud films.
Castaway
Saving Private Ryan
Forrest Gump
The Green Mile and Road To Perdition..... were all classics!!👌
And That Thing You Do!
The beach👌
Not recommending this as a thing to react to, but if you've not seen Christopher Walken reading The Three Little Pigs, it's well worth a watch!
I love your western reactions. I think that you would find "Something Big" to be, best movie ever. It's staring a lot of great actors. The main character is played by Dean Martin.
Frank Jr. did a presentation for my company just a short time before I started working for them. My buddy said it was quite interesting. Like another commenter said, I heard the story in the movie was full of fantasies, not truth.
Blast From the Past is a great Walken movie.
All true and more read the book by Frank... I did before there even was a movie. Also this was the 50's and 60's no digital only a paper world. Cheers!
No No the book is also fiction, he sold the book rights to Spielberg…. Just more of a con.
If you want a super serious, very troubling movie with Christopher Walken (and DeNiro, et al), check out The Deerhunter.
Have you seen "touching the void"? it's an amazing true story with a couple of your countrymen , very good
Which one of the two little mice are you, Dawn? 😅
Why be running when you can be Walken. Love that guy!
Eight great movies in a row. You're the bestest reactor in the whole world? Let's go for 9 in a row.
Great movie!

1.The Anderson Tapes 2.A View To A Kill 3.Biloxi Blues 4.Blast From The Past 5.Seven Pychopaths 6.The Deer Hunter 7.The Dogs Of War 8.King Of New York
He used the alias Barry Allen in the one scene which is the name of The Flash, one of them anyway.
I read his book (same title) long before the movie and the story is pretty much the same. It's based on the book, sure, but the highlights are all there.
14:26 $50,000, dawns serious.
I'm an odd old duck, but my favorite Christopher Walken is "Who Am I This Time" a TV movie with Susan Sarandon.
Can't stand Susan Sarandon as an actress. No, thanks. Love Christopher Walken.
Underrated Spielberg gem
Still fun...
@@arjaylee I agree. I consider it an entertaining enough movie to watch it again and see Dawn's reactions to it. Fun movie. Great acting.
I remember seeing news broadcasts while they were chasing him. I am sure there is some fiction here, but not too much.
The answer is pretty much none of it was true. He was a con man, and not a very good one.
Lots of good videos on youtube exposing Abagnale's lies
@@philmakris8507 I didn't know any of that. Thanks for letting me know.
@@rijlqanturis625 I truly had no idea. Thanks for letting me know.
Thank you.
there are lots of people that are this good at lying. They're called lawyers.
