@@spazimdam They take a bit of getting used to. My other keyboards (Deep Mind 12, Keystation Pro 88) have full size keys so if they start to bug me too much I'll just play the mini nova from one of them. Overall though, they're great.
@@scottcupp8129 Thanks for the info. I might look into a Novation Ultranova because it's got full size keys, but there are so many cool things about the Mininova. Decisions, decisions.
I know this an old thread...I just picked up the mininova. Being delivered today. I really didn’t want to add another synth as, well, I think I have more of a collection than ones that I use. Over time, I’ve gravitated toward specific ones that fit my style and a few just sit :/ and come out sometimes to see if they work in the project. So, I haven’t been seriously looking for additional keys for a while (until that magical garage sale Mono/poly we all want appears for the cost of a pound of coffee). This video completely sold me. These pads are up there with the Q and Virus and I’ll wager that with a bit of effort this will produce amazing stuff. They have their own flavor, as one synth can’t replace the other. I wish that this had after touch and velocity, but for what this is and the current price point, I’m good. Also, this will be my first mini key. Watching how easily you get around the board and manage the mod wheel and touch pads...sometimes I can’t do what I want to do with full size boards as one hand can’t stretch from one end to the knobs/strip/pad or whatever mod source... Thanks a lot for this demo. I’m glad that you can play and simultaneously provide a good hookup to whatever interface you are using to record. :) The sound is awesome.
My first analog synth recently was a Behringer Deep Mind 12, a Behringer Model D and now my Mini Nova. Couldn't be happier with the 3 together. I also have a lot of VST instruments. My controller keyboard is an M-Audio Keystation Pro 88. Fun stuff
It's a keeper...I am working on another synth recently a (Hydrasynth Explorer), I have put my mininova aside for now and am going to record myself soon on both (home recording). Thank you Novation and ASM for your products.😎
Hey thanks a lot for putting all the work in to record and post this. It's a really big help when it comes to deciding on a synth, at least in my opinion.
This is a smashing synth in every way. I've had mine for nearly 5 years and I'm keeping it. I acquired the Numanova pack and YES it's fantastic to say the least. Hey you play very well you're a very good keyboard player so well done.
I recently purchased the Mininova (about 2 months ago); I love it, but it does have a few really annoying sounds like the Tinklers and Mr.e pad, can't stand those ones lol. Otherwise, I am SO Happy with this synth, I don't regret getting it at all. I was stuck between this and the Microkorg xl, but something kept telling me to choose the Mininova, and I definitely feel I've made the right choice.
+Haley LeDisko congrats! yes the Mininova has some pretty useless patches for me, but once I learn how to create the sounds I want, I'm sure I'll be pretty happy :). Have fun with your little synth!
Now that I look back on this they do sound a little weak but I still love the sounds and also the lead sounds you showed in the other video, and still think it would be a good choice for my first synth. Thank you for answering! :)
Hey! Thanks for your comment! Yep, it can be tweaked a lot, and if you're patient enough, you can make some really good ambient sound (which I miss a a little from the factory presets).
Thank you SO much! This video was incredibly helpful! It was very important for me to hear the pad sounds because I will be using those most (and I LOVE these sounds!). I am positive that I want to get this as my first synthesizer now! :) it seems to be the perfect synth for me to start with at a great price. It's a bad ass. That's why I bought one. I have every synth possible in my DAW as well. My hardware synths are as follows: Behringer Deep Mind 12, Model D, and now my Mininova. Love them all!!!
Well it's my first synth too, and I'm happy with it so far. To be honest, I think the factory pad sounds are a bit weak (compared to the bass, lead and ARP sounds), but with some tweaks you can get really good sound.

Everytime a tweak button is not dark blue you hear the original patch (like at 14:11 there is one tweak button used). I think there are a reasonably enough time with no tweaks, but that's my opinion. :) But thanks for the comment.
I think some people want to hear the effects of those buttons for those patches ... it's one of the unique features of the Mininova ~ I'm just glad this vid has no talk and all play LOL

Did I pay some B stock or what?
Some of those pads are ok and several are ugly sounding.
Why oh why did you have to keep hitting the pads whilst playing in this video,
People don't wanna hear tweaks ,they wanna hear the pads as they come, this video demo is all but useless almost .
:) Sorry. I thought it's important, because the tweak buttons can create a whole other sounds.
onegoestofour o respect that but it doesn't allow the listener to hear the actual sound,I can't be sure if I'm hearing the patch or tweaked sound .
And worse still the the tweaks aren't something everyone would do.
Definitely no need to apologize though ,you're demos are still good honest,I'd just have preferred to hear the patches .
Does it have inbuilt speakers and auto tunes?
Inbuilt speaker -no, but it has a decent vocoder, so yes, there is auto tune.
