- Had some problems with the last video not fully uploading, it was cut off 10 minutes short. It finally uploading in full length. I’m currently in camp and there’s about 25 using the one starlink so maybe that had something to do with the uploading to UA-cam 🤷♂️

Wish i could turn back the clock to when i was 19 yrs old, engineering for Weldwood of Canada / Interfor then with Dean Thompson and May Trucking (Mike Hamilton Logging : Courtney) doing conventional/Heli layout along with timber cruising from as far North as Rivers Inlet,Gilford Island, Bute and Toba Inlets, Squamish, Boston Bar, Hope, Coquihalla, to the South East in Trail, every Logger will tell you the same thing... yes it is a job, a hard and very dangerous way to make money, it is the adventure of this job, the men we worked beside, the scenery, the fresh air, the scent of everything that is Logging, plus Logger stories through our eyes are what keeps us forever in Caulk Boots
That accumulated , rotten material around the bottom of the tree and all on the Forrest floor is called 'duff', or 'Forrest duff'.
Going by all the growth marks cutting into the base of where you cut the tree down there was no way that tree wasn't going to split when it fell...Tis the nature of the beast.

I'm surprised that all of the companies don't strap the butts, at least the high grade. A break is seldom a clean, straight break and really hurts net yeild, especially if the break is across the clear faces, which is normally the case
I prefer the natural sound quality of your cell phone's microphone for both your chainsaw and speaking. That remote microphone is distorting the sound of your chainsaw because it is clipping the digital audio signal.
BTW, I'm an audio engineer.
Ya that’s the problem with the wireless mic. It can’t handle how loud the saw gets 🤷♂️
Hello Bjarne, in the past you have had logs that were just too big for the helicopter to carry. Then you said it had to be split in half so they could move it. Do you have a video of this ?? Does the hill crew do the splitting, just courious. That new POWER WEDGE of yours is really something, wish we would have had it back in my falling days. Thanks for aa the new videos love em. I always volume down when the saw is running either way. Sounds great but too much loudness isn't good for keeping calm. Unless it's my 100 watt Marshall 4x12 amp. Kerraannng!!! 🎸🎸🎸🤘

Excuse my ignorance, but How can 'timber thieves' take logs out of mountainous areas like this, without a helicopter ?
It depends on location heavy-duty equipment can b used to move logs like this and they will cut up the log into manageable sizes then drag it to a Log truck to b delivered to a location

Ya I’ve been having issues with my 592’s something to do with the ignition. I’m going to try replacing the coil/magneto? I heard rumour that it’s a common problem
@@BjarneButler i know that a 572 has a know coil problem. Could very well be the same issue, cause it does sound like it's breaking up. I know you changed the spark plug not that long ago, but could also be that, just for consideration

Need some good balancing abilities when you are cutting on a steppe slope, you need to be part mountain goat, acrobat and contortionist as well as knowing what you are doing cutting trees. Be safe.
"Lumber jacking is no place for old men" but how old is the oldest guy in your crew ?
I’ve seen a few old timers in their 60’s but it’s rare now. Some areas are easy and some are very hard. I’d a job is day rate for the contractor then production isn’t as important as the job being done professionally, ie: felled while minimizing breakage, optimal bucking( grade breaks etc), efficiently. Most old timers now are in the 50’s as heli logging nowadays are in steeper, more rugged ground. So a lot more physically demanding and usually the old timers have accumulated a score of injuries over the years that’s now catching up to them. Decades in the bush can wear a guy down
