I finally got one with a water cooler bundle from NewEgg at the MSRP!! Thank you NewEgg. My video card is an AMD RX5600XT that I bought before the shortage and had been using in another computer. When I put the new computer together, I got the VGA light on the MB and the BIOS beeps for graphic card. I tried re-seating, etc and to no avail. I read about the Quick Flash but did not want to take the computer apart. I watched your video and you did not say it had to be taken apart, just do not try to start. I did exactly as you said. About 2 or 3 minutes into the BIOS update, the computer started booting on its on. Each of the lights on the MB came on for BIOS, CPU, RAM and VGA and flashed alternating. After about 10 minutes the USB drive stopped flashing and the warning lights on the MB all went out. The BIOS had updated and the computer had booted up normally and was looking for an OS. So I guess that answers the question, yes you can update a built computer. Thank you again!
Thanks for the great tutorial. Just did it on my new Gigabyte Aorus PRO V2 board and it took about 6 - 8 minutes to complete. Very reassuring to be able to follow your tutorial.
Hi Glenn. I just updated a Gigabyte Aorus Z490 Master motherboard I bought together with an Intel i5-11400f cpu. I bought the combo in April, before the bios F20 that supports this CPU came out. I just did the build now. I did not get a display, so I suspected the bios was to old for the CPU. I downloaded the F20 bios from Gigabytes website, and proceeded to flash the bios onto the motherboard using Q+ flash. I did it with the CPU, ram and GPU installed. It took about 5 minutes, and several reboots. And it worked fine. Now I have display, and am able to enter the newly updated bios. I did format the old tiny 2Gb USB 2.0 memory stick I had with FAT (not FAT32 but it will work too), renamed the bios to GIGABYTE.bin, put the stick in the usb port marked bios, turned off the pc, pressed Q+ flash, and the motherboard did the rest. This worked for my specific motherboard, I cannot vouch for other combos. Coincidentally I came over you video as I was flashing the bios. It worked out just fine. Thanks for the video. Now I am off to install Windows 11 on it.
These steps worked perfectly to get my GIGABYTE B550I ready for Ryzen 5000. Just don't make my mistake and copy over & rename the entire zip file instead of the just the file for the BIOS update.
Future manuals of Gigabyte boards should include renaming the BIOS file since it is not stated in the QFlash procedure in the manual. Thank you for this tutorial because I was about to disconnect the CMOS battery due to the Clear CMOS jumper not working for my board. My battery is tucked in the VRM heatsink which would be a complete disassemble of my computer.
Ahaha you're a genius :)) IT WORKS ! Why did you do this video ? I mean, the b550 isn't that common among the gaming community. Did this issue happened to you? Anyway thanks you saved me 130 bucks ;)
@@GlennBerrySQL I got my mb, but it works without updating bios. So, i'am lucky) But obviously i'll update my bios. Did you have experience with 14e version bios? I think that i need to use 13 version and wait stable version .
Great video! You are helping hundreds and thousands of people with BIOS issues. Why did you say that we should not plug into the onboard HDMI port? If the board has an HDMI and DisplayPort shouldn't it display something on the screen regardless of CPU is installed?
Most AMD AM4 CPUs don't have integrated graphics, which means that the motherboard video ports won't have any signal to output. Lots of people don't realize this, and then they get frustrated when there is no video signal if they try to use the motherboard video ports. The only AMD AM4 CPUs that have integrated video have a G at the end of the model number. For example, the Ryzen 7 5700G.
@@brandon_wallace That would depend on what you would be doing with the system. A Ryzen 7 5700G is great for normal general-purpose usage but would not do as well on some modern games at high resolution and high quality settings.

Beyond brilliant, an expert re-flashed my bios for my new Ryzen 9, bricked it totally black screen of death. I discovered this, followed the instructions except went for a newer update, vs 14.... WORKED AND FIXED THE MESSED UP BIOS. What can I say. Brilliant. Question a friend want to go from an old bios also to 14 for his new Ryzen 9. He says he has to go through all the progressive updates, I think this will do it in one go, do you know if it will? Keith
In most cases, you can go directly from an old BIOS version to the latest BIOS version. Sometimes (very rarely) you might have a BIOS version that is so old that you have to do an "intermediate" update first, before you can go to the latest version. If that is the case, the Motherboard vendor will explain it in great detail on the page where you download BIOS updates.
Thanks so much for the reply, and for the original post. If we tried to go straight to the latest and it didn't work, could we then still go back and do it the long way, Or safer to do it the long way in the first place, its the MOBO in your video (as was mine) but he def has a very old bios (I didn't know I had a black screen and a trashed bios LOL)?
@kmaltman Looking at the BIOS download page, I don't see any mention from Gigabyte about having to do any intermediate BIOS updates for this motherboard. You should be able to go straight to the latest version. www.gigabyte.com/Motherboard/B550-AORUS-PRO-AC-rev-1x/support#support-dl-bios Regardless of that, you would NEVER have to "go through all the progressive updates" to get to the latest version.
This procedure will work just the same in a complete system (as stated in the video and in the video description). If you already have a system that will POST, then the regular Q-Flash utility in the BIOS is easier to use.
ty so much for the help I got a Z690 and could not make my ssd to show up and found out that I had to update the bios but had no idea how this is ridiculous complicated for noobs like me don't know what is gigabyte thinking lol
Here are some general troubleshooting steps in case you have any issues: 1. Did you watch the entire video, and follow the directions exactly? 2. Is the USB drive formatted with FAT32 rather than NTFS or exFAT? 3. Do you have file extensions enabled in Windows Explorer? 4. Did you download the latest BIOS file for your motherboard? 5. Did you rename the BIOS file as gigabyte.bin? 6. Is the BIOS file in the root of the USB drive? 7. Is the USB drive in the correct port (the one labeled BIOS)? 8. Are both power supply cables plugged into the motherboard? 9. Did you plug in the USB drive before you turned the power supply on? 10. Are you using a USB 2.0 flash drive instead of a USB 3.0 flash drive (USB 2.0 seems to work better)? 11. Did the BIOS flash LED on the motherboard flash for 5-6 minutes, and then stop flashing? NOTE: Yes, you can do this on a fully assembled system! You need to have the system plugged in, with the power supply switch turned on. Do NOT turn on the system with the case power button, because you don't want the system to be running normally when you do this. After that, just follow the directions in the video. This blog post has more details, including FAQs: Flashing Your BIOS with No CPU Installed (bit.ly/3kfHjWe) This blog post talks about USB 2.0 drives and how to identify them. Identifying a USB 2.0 Flash Drive (bit.ly/2IQvQ2j)
@@jandkwhite6459 That is an Intel motherboard, so you should not need to use this technique. At any rate, if a Gigabyte motherboard supports Q-Flash Plus, then you could use this technique. Just make sure to download the correct BIOS for that motherboard.
@Zachary Isaac Probably not. Many people who have tried this using a USB 3.0 drive have had problems. I know for sure that it works with a USB 2.0 drive.

I try to remove the battery and found that not work. The last choice is flash BIOS and your video make everthing easy. I did it on full set PC within 3 minutes. Be careful that all lamp on your pc will be light but not means it finish. Please check the Q flash LED to make sure if it still blinking please continue to wait. Finally the PC will be restart itself. Please keep calm and be careful.
Don't do what I did. I had the MB on it's box ready to flash with PSU turned on. Nothing happened, no flashing led at all (not even a few). My mistake was I had the MB on top of the anti-static bag on the box ;) (which is conductive obviously). Fortunately, removing the bag so the MB was just on the cardboard everything worked. This was just the video I was looking for, explained it very clearly. The flash worked ok for me with a 32Gb usb drive.
@@GlennBerrySQL like for real.. my new PC was simply bricked.. nothing… thought it was a DOA motherboard, even bought a second that arrives today… will just return it because of your great suggestions. You can see the build on Twitter if you like.. Cheers.
I've used this as a guide for how to do it on a b550 aorus elite v2, in combination with a 5600g processor. About 1 minute after i started the update, the fans spun up. Just over 6 minutes into the process, the bios light stopped blinking, but the fans havent stopped spinning, and the system shows no sign of shutting down. My assumption is that it should be alright to cut the power, or try to hold down the case power button until it shuts down, but i'm reluctant to even try, since these mistakes would be expensive.
USB 2.0 seems to work more reliably, but you can try a USB 3.0 drive. It won't hurt anything if it fails, since it won't be able to read the BIOS flash file and will fail after a few seconds.

Good that you got everything working. Glad I could help!
Thank you dude, helped a lot. Motherboard was dead the first time got a replacement
Good to hear. I'm glad it worked for you with a different MB.
Thank you so much for this video. I was at my wits ends. Much appreciated.
Thanks! I'm glad I could help.
I’ve used this a couple of times and it’s simple and it has been easy every time. I really recommend it if you need to update your bios. 👌
Glad it was useful. Thanks!
Thank you so much for the video Glenn! Very informative.
I'm glad it was helpful
Very informative, I just built my first gaming PC for my son's, and it won't post. I'm going to give this a try! Cheers!
Make sure to download the correct BIOS for your motherboard and follow the directions in the video. Good luck!
Thanks a lot for this guide Glenn! I happen to have the same motherboard, so this made it a lot easier.
Great! I am glad it was helpful!
Really thorough helpful video here Glenn, thanks.
Thanks!
Thanks for the great tutorial. Just did it on my new Gigabyte Aorus PRO V2 board and it took about 6 - 8 minutes to complete. Very reassuring to be able to follow your tutorial.
I'm glad it was helpful!
Great tutorial and teaching style I like how you explain things to look out for
Thanks! I appreciate that.
very nice one brief and to the point without bubbles! thank you very much sir
Glad I could help!
Great! Thanks for letting me know how it worked out!
This was extremely helpful and fortuitous that I have the exact board. Thank you!
Glad it helped!
I cannot thank you enough for this video. THANK YOU!
Glad it helped!
Good job !
I had a problem with that flash but after that video - renamed flash file to gigabyte.bin and BIOS update started successfully :)
Thanks !
Good. Glad I could help!
These steps worked perfectly to get my GIGABYTE B550I ready for Ryzen 5000. Just don't make my mistake and copy over & rename the entire zip file instead of the just the file for the BIOS update.
Glad you got it working!
Thank you...love and respect from South Africa
Thanks!
Ahaha you're a genius :)) IT WORKS ! Why did you do this video ? I mean, the b550 isn't that common among the gaming community. Did this issue happened to you?
Anyway thanks you saved me 130 bucks ;)
Glad you got your system working!
Thank u very much for this video. Tomorrow i'll get my my motherboard and i hope your guide will help me to correctly install new bios.
Good luck!
@@GlennBerrySQL I got my mb, but it works without updating bios. So, i'am lucky)
But obviously i'll update my bios. Did you have experience with 14e version bios? I think that i need to use 13 version and wait stable version .
@@anton2810 The 14e BIOS worked fine for me.
Very helpful. I have a b500 pro v2 along with everything to build my new pc. Will be using a 5600x cpu
Have fun building it!
Thanks!
Thank you!
Thanks mate. I was a bit stressed until I found this :D
Glad I could help!
@@GlennBerrySQL Thanks for responding. I guess buying the Ryzen G models would be more cost effective and the computer would use less power.
@@brandon_wallace That would depend on what you would be doing with the system. A Ryzen 7 5700G is great for normal general-purpose usage but would not do as well on some modern games at high resolution and high quality settings.
@@GlennBerrySQL I do not play games so it is just what I need. Thanks.
thank you Sir, this is so helpfull and well explained. great video, much appreciated.
You are welcome, I am glad it was helpful.
You did a great job on this video. Thank you!
Thanks!
Good video Glenn! Thank you for sharing it with us!💖👍😎JP
Thanks for the comment!
@@GlennBerrySQL Your very welcome Glenn! Have a great week!😎
Worked perfect !👍
Glad to hear it!
Explanation clear, nice simple video. I'm subscribing. Thanks.
Thanks for the sub!
This is it. Gigabyte's website said nothing about what files i need in my usb drive or renaming them. Wtf. This is gonna go on my B550 Elite V2 with 5600g. Thanks a lot.
Make sure you download the correct BIOS update for that motherboard, and then follow the directions in this video.
@@GlennBerrySQL I got F13, which is the one before the latest. It says compatible with 5000g series processors, and I heard that F14e is not stable yet. Literally working on info bits. This is my first PC ever and my first build.
@@N0sebud Good luck!
You should be able to go straight to the latest version.
www.gigabyte.com/Motherboard/B550-AORUS-PRO-AC-rev-1x/support#support-dl-bios
Regardless of that, you would NEVER have to "go through all the progressive updates" to get to the latest version.
THANKS.. On mine ,,,, Lifesaver
THAAANK YOU!! Fantastic Video!
Thanks! I'm glad it was useful.
Thanks a lot sir, detailed instructions...very helpful., but I was trying to update bios in a complete system.
Thanks for sharing.
This procedure will work just the same in a complete system (as stated in the video and in the video description). If you already have a system that will POST, then the regular Q-Flash utility in the BIOS is easier to use.
Amazing video. Thanks for putting in the time!
You are welcome!
ty so much for the help I got a Z690 and could not make my ssd to show up and found out that I had to update the bios but had no idea how
this is ridiculous complicated for noobs like me don't know what is gigabyte thinking lol
Glad it was useful!
Can confirm it works with a full build
Yes it does.
Here are some general troubleshooting steps in case you have any issues:

This blog post talks about USB 2.0 drives and how to identify them.

Will this work the same way with the aorus pro ac LGA1200 motherboard?
@@jandkwhite6459 That is an Intel motherboard, so you should not need to use this technique. At any rate, if a Gigabyte motherboard supports Q-Flash Plus, then you could use this technique. Just make sure to download the correct BIOS for that motherboard.
@@GlennBerrySQL thank you so much!
@Zachary Isaac Probably not. Many people who have tried this using a USB 3.0 drive have had problems. I know for sure that it works with a USB 2.0 drive.
thank you for this pinned post.. i rename gigabyte.BAT instead of gigabyte.BIN and it take me 3 hours to realize it lol.. again, thank you for your instructions
Dear Sir.... Your video can help me like a charm. I cannot boot this board. Without beep sound but all the lamp connect to the board like fan and RAM lighting. It means something with BIOS.
I'm glad you got it working. Thanks for the comment!
I'm glad you got it figured out!
Thank you mate, this will come in handy !
Glad I could help!
Super Helpful.
Thanks! I'm glad it was useful!
@@GlennBerrySQL like for real.. my new PC was simply bricked.. nothing… thought it was a DOA motherboard, even bought a second that arrives today… will just return it because of your great suggestions. You can see the build on Twitter if you like.. Cheers.
@@NOOBIFIER1337 That is good news. Thanks for letting me know!
Same problem.
This is very informative, thank you! Before I go ahead, how important is it to use a USB 2.0 and not 3.0 drive?
USB 2.0 seems to work more reliably, but you can try a USB 3.0 drive. It won't hurt anything if it fails, since it won't be able to read the BIOS flash file and will fail after a few seconds.
Super useful and well explained!
Glad it was helpful!
Thanks for this video it really helped me out.
