  • The Mercedes mbe4000. I’m sick off pulling engines for a crappy cam shaft. Leaky cylinder heads. Miss fire codes that you prey you find a bad wire. Egr valves are crap. I haven’t even got into fuel issues I have run into with idiots changing fuel filters, fyi once air is in the system you got to litterally push out the air through the injectors. There is a stupid dick in the oil filter and if that dick pulled out, the fucker will apply the jack brake one oil pressure goes up. Look into the oil filter housing and you’ll see a plastic, and that little plastic piece stops oil from entering the jack brake oil circuit that opens up the exhaust valve.

    Just did an mbe4000, swapped block, accessories swapped, head rebuilt and 2 sleeves and pistons changed new rings everywhere, valve adjustment
    First time and its a neat experience, nothing is required to do inframe rebuild since all head are seperate very fun and their information for torque and pin outs are very easy to look up

    Could the roller knocks and cam damage be caused by lack of maintenance?…or is it a flaw in the engine itself?

    Hello friend, I have a problem with my MBE 4000 engine. The air compressor gear broke and I need to remove the camshaft to replace it. Can you tell me what steps I should follow to remove the camshaft?

      You need to pull the engine out to remove the camshaft . If you do minus well get the long block done. It’s worth it. Just have the patience for it

    Hey brother I have 2007 sterling car hauler with mbe 4000 it started to knock in 9th gear rpm between 13-14 when it goes above it stops knocking when I stopped the truck to check it it was leaking oil from the top looks like coming from head. What can it be

    • @ToadHoleOntario
      @ToadHoleOntario  Рік тому +1

      Oil leaking from the head is bad but there is an oil line on the passenger side that can leak. If the knock seams like it goes away or knocks at a certain rpm, my experience is to drop the oil pan and inspect rods and injection pumps and there rollers close. MBE 4000 are bad for dropping valves when you don’t do top sets at least once in there life time

    Hey what’s up buddy I have a 2009 Freightliner Columbia with MBE 4000
    The truck was leaking antifreeze when the truck was sitting for two days and it was coming from the exhaust pipe And then when I turn it on it started leaking oil from the exhaust time what can It be do you think it might be a gasket somewhere I have to change

    • @ToadHoleOntario
      @ToadHoleOntario  2 роки тому

      Coolant from the exhaust in that year of engine can be the egr cooler and if it is the cooler then it’s also putting coolant into the intake manifold. the oil is probably from the turbo but that’s just a guess from my experience. You would have a dead cylinder if the oil was from the cylinders.

    Question... I have a 2007 Western Star 4900EX, can I swap my MBE4000 with a 14l Series 60 or a 3406e Cat?

    • @ToadHoleOntario
      @ToadHoleOntario  2 роки тому

      If you found a western star 4900 with that engine you want to install, just record the last 6 of the vin number so you can order the proper motor mounts, proper fan drive. I would rather have a 4900 with the series 60. I have a long time customer with a 1998 star with over 4 million km. Rebuilt the engine 2 times and rebuilt the transmission 1 time. Nothing wrong with an older diesel as long as it has been taken care of.

    Hey quick question for you. Can you see the camshaft from the bottom end if I pulled the pan and looked up? Ive got a 2006 mbe4000 that has a knock and im thinking it is either the cam or the roller on the lifter.

    • @ToadHoleOntario
      @ToadHoleOntario  2 роки тому

      It is difficult to see but you’ll be able to see damage to the cam if there is any. You’ll have to inspect the facing on the ramp part of the lobe of the camshaft. if the roller has seized on the unit injector there will be visual damage to that specific lobe all the way around. They have oil squirters for the unit pump rollers, make sure one hasn’t fallen out, it would be sitting in the oil pan.

    Are the mbe4000 good engines to buy as a first city truck?
    Or should i start running?

    • @ToadHoleOntario
      @ToadHoleOntario  2 роки тому

      Long term it’s expensive to maintain. They are shit to start when they loose fuel prime. If it’s leaking coolant from the heads then you need a rebuild. Good thing is if you have a Mercedes’ you don’t have def fluid!! I personally don’t hate the mbe 4000 as it never had enough power to cause cavitation on the cylinder liners but don’t like the design compared to a Cummins L or C and would start off with a series 60 Detroit ahead of a mbe4000 if you need power.

      @@mikedubz5576 stay away from the max force. Being an 07 the only thing I don’t like is the freightliner part. I hate bulk head module and electric over air emu systems. Other than that those trucks can have the dpf deleted and pass emissions in Ontario with no issues( it cant be spewing black smoke but Ontario emissions is just particulate matter and just like an o2 to 06 dodge Cummins all you need is a high pressure fuel system to run smokeless) I’m at a western star/sterling dealership and even a sterling is not a bad option with the mbe4000. Plug it in in the cold weather and DONT USE EITHER cause I’ve rebuilt many Mercedes’ with broken ring lands. Plus dont be surprised if the engine was only partly rebuilt. Its quite common to just replace the one cylinder and head that is leaking coolant.

    I recently bought a freightliner columbia with MBE4000 12.8L that roll over in an accident after fixing the body I started the truck and there was oil in the exhaust manifold. Where do you think that oil comes from?

    • @ToadHoleOntario
      @ToadHoleOntario  2 роки тому +1

      As long as it wasn’t running on its side with the oil tube sucking in air then that’s just oil coming past the piston rings or from the valve stem seals. I’ve had to replace an engine because the driver broke the key and let the engine seize idling on its side pissing oil out of the oil spinner( dd series Detroit).

      Because it’s not active all the time I’ve personally seen the small little terminals become loose in the mcm 120 pin connector. You litterally have to check the drag from a new pin to the engine harness injector and unit pump wiring, I’ve replaced the injector wiring harness at the injector because it’s another small terminal connection that can spread. I hate how complex the newer mbe. It can be the injector(pre-epa 7 had a regular injector with no electrical then they changed to an electrical injector with the same unit pump design), injector wiring or even a unit pump.
