Good afternoon & yes maybe a bit late with my comment but wanted to congratulate you on a superb informative video. Clear advice on flies & tactics used which I’m sure will aid my future fishing trips. Many thanks for taking the time to voice over & instruct & look forward to future educational videos from you. Tight lines, Derick.
@@northeastangling I got a great deal from what you said about how you control the depth you're fishing at. It seems to be at the front of your mind all the time you're fishing and you are controlling it very closely i.e. to the foot. Its highlighted an area for me to concentrate on to improve my catch rate. What intermediate line were you using to get the horizontal retrieve the you emphasized as an important factor?
It's is important David. You will catch fish of course without checking depth. However, to be consistantly in the "zone" it will improve your chances of the trout actually seeing your fly. My favourite line is the Cortland 444 Camo 1.5 ips. This covers fish from 1 to 4ft. Anything deeper I switch to Di3, 5 or 7 depending on how fast I want to get there. Another good option is a neutral density line, 0.5 ips. This is for those fish just under the surface and its great for nymphing. Remember, after counting the speed of your retrieve dictates how the fly travels. If its too slow the line will still be sinking. Choose your sink rate for presentation and adjust your retrieve to suit. Phew!!... Hope that helps 👍
Hi I am a subscriber and Just want to say I really enjoyed the video and the information you give throughout. And the footage of Chatton and the surrounding hills are amazing. My wife and I live in Leeds and have been holidaying in Northumberland now for over thirty years never get tired of coming up. I’m retired now and took up fly fishing about five years ago and always make a beeline for Chatton when we are up there sadly I can only fish there three times a year. There are very few places down here to fly fish I only know of one in West Yorkshire, it’s a syndicate water which I joined but sadly it’s quite close to two rivers and it flooded early in the year and was unfishable for two months , anyway enough ramblings from a jealous Yorksherman. Have a very merry Christmas and keep the video’s coming and stay safe.
Hi Peter. Thank you so much for watching. It makes it all worthwhile to receive genuinely positive feedback. I can't imagine not having any stillwaters nearby, I think I would sell my home and move! If you find yourself in Northumberland feel free to get in touch. I would be happy to spend a day with you at Chatton. Tight lines and Merry Christmas.
@@northeastangling Thank you for your offering to spend some time fishing with me that’s very kind of you, we are back up and staying in Seahouses next April for a week. My wife and I would love to move to Northumberland we talk about it often but we are a close family and we now are very proud grandparents to three girls it’s bad enough not seeing them hardly at all now with this horrible Covid virus so to be over 150 miles away would be unbearable. We had two holidays to Northumberland cancelled last year because of Covid and to be honest the way things are going I’m not holding my breath for next April , I believe we will be in full lockdown again before Christmas although I pray we’re not ! All the very best 🧑🏼🎄🎄🎣
@@northeastangling north ayrshire mate and cant go out of it except for work hope you have a nice Christmas and tight lines in 21 cheers again for the vids
Hi Chris, thank you for watching. If this method is going to work on the day, interest or a take, is usually within the first few casts. As a generally rule, start at around 4/5 feet and then work your way down an extra foot at a time until you get some interest if you have had no takes after around 10/15 minutes. Some days this just is not the correct method. However I would say 80% of the time you will take a fish on the bung. Tight lines 👍
Thank you. If the snakes are not tied correctly they can tangle. I tie my patterns 2.5 inches from top of tail to head. The braid that connects the rear hook must have a little slack in it but not too much as this causes the tangles 👍
@@northeastangling thanks mate they are from a tackle shop so your probably right merry Christmas mate and a happy new year hope to see u one day at thrunton or chatton as I fish both of them
Hi Mark. I clip off 12.inches for the droppers. After the knot is tied your left with around an 8 inch dropper. If you find your getting tangles, cut that back to as little as 5inch. All the best. 👍
Hi. I favour the Cortland 444 Camo. Still going strong after more than 10 years. The only other I would recommend is the Rio Aqualux 2. Thank you for watching 👍
I noticed at the start, you took the fly from the lid of your seat box.Hoe do you do that? Is there a foam pad or something you attached on the inside of the lid or something else?
Hi Rhys, I have inserted sticky back foam to the inside of my box lid. You can buy rolls on Ebay, it's quite cheap. I only use my box in the winter, as you can see it's way too muddy for my bag!
much more pleasant to listen to without so much hammering music , (I am a musician also )but the heavy drum etc is for me too much ,otherwise great videos well done . I am moving to durham area in June 22 any advice etc appreciated , keep up the great work .
Awesome video and very helpful thanks again mate
Cheers Fella 👍
