I‘m full of love and respect for people like you James! I saw you in the movie „being with animals“, made by a friend of my singing teacher who is helping me through traumatic episodes by doing similar work with humans as you do with animals. Calm and caring, very patient and very real, not hiding and masking own fears behind titles that prove nothing else than just studies at certain well known universities. Titles don’t tell anything about real quality of a professional.
This is so inspiring and something anyone caring for equines can use to find a little something to incorporate into their own systems. I'm particularly struck with the central herb garden, where they can self select!
Paddock Paradise was written by Jaime Jackson which is what this track system is based on. The Natural Trim is his subsequent book that address the issue of the hoof trim horses should get that goes with this system. All based on research and observations on the wild horses of the US Great Basin. check out Facebook site as well. AANHCP is his official charity for ongoing research. (American Advancement of Natural Horse Care Practitioners)
James - what kind of cable are you using for the track? And is it electrified? Thanks for sharing this great setup and letting us benefit from your learning curve!
Wonderful ideas - one thing though I did notice that there are no shelters for when it is raining and if they are not rugged up during the colder wet months, then they will stay wet and cold without the natural warmth of a puffed up coat.
+Marie Barclay I've been stung by my electric fence many times (more than my horses) and it is not traumatic it is just a discouragement, one touch and they learn not to go near it again.. far better than barbed wire and not everyone can afford post and rail, especially a charity organisation. Better to focus on all the many great and good things these guys are doing rather than being overly critical of something rather minor like this...they should be encouraged in their efforts.

I get electric shocks all the time from many things such as vehicles, shopping trolleys, etc,. It isn't painful it is just a shock. Some beings are more sensitive to electrical impulses than others.
Not all horses get on as it happens. Many are great with a barrier to say hello over or to even groom over or walk along but can beat the crap out of each other when that barrier is not there. Safety is paramount whilst still enabling companionship.

It is fabulous to see a rescue doing this system as so many rescue horses just stand around bored rigid in overstocked fields full of parasites.

LOVE THIS CONCEPT! Absolutely Brilliant. Particularly the Herb Garden so the Horses can Self-Serve.
Wonderfull, amazing, smart. Very big compliments for the job you and your people are doing James!!

There are plenty of shelters :)
Also, how many acres total is your field - i.e. the total track area?
If those cables are electrified that is not compassionate horse care.

A fence between horses does not allow for proper herd interactions.
