- Katja Ebstein performing "Diese Welt" ("This World"), the German entry at the 1971 Eurovision Song Contest.
A year after scoring 3rd place (Germany's best-ever ranking at the time) with the classic "Wunder Gibt Es Immer Wieder", the German diva returned with another song of true quality, which also finished in 3rd place. Personally, I find this environmental-message song the (relatively) weakest of her three entries at the contest, but this still doesn't mean it's anything less than great. And, as always, Katja looks and sounds marvelous!
Katja Ebstein is one of the undisputed Eurovision divas. Three songs, all great, each in their own field, all sung to the max by her.
This is a wonderful song. Katja Ebstein is a great artist. She is one of my favorite singers in the eurovision contests...... Best regard from Norway.
In 71 Germany, Monaco and Spain were the strongest BY FAR. Personally, Germany is my favourite. Monaco second and Spain third.
Never saw a top three so close.
Great song, fantastic performance. Katja is absolutely stunning. Thx for the upload.
wow, she had great hair!!
She still has a great hair today 😉
Marvellous Katja, all three of her songs are my favorites and I really wish she would have won the contest, but 3 top 3 placings is a really good result =)
The Best of her songs.
This is my favorite among Katja's three entries.
great, very special!!!
i'm spanish, but my heart is half parted, Karina and Katja are fantastic!
Best German entry ever!!
It is my favourite but Germany's winning1982 entry "A little peace" is certainly up there with the best.
The best of her 3 Eurovision entries
I agree absolutely with everthing you say. Back in 71 I put Sweden 1st & Germany 2nd, though now I would put Monaco in 1st spot - just about. The lyrics of Diese Welt are wonderful & so ahead of their time.
thanks for bringing it in front of me again after so many years...
This was a great song. It was my second favorite. I love Sweden's "Vita Vidder" the best from that year, but this is a VERY close 2nd. I don't speak a lick of German ( or Swedish for that matter) but the two songs have GREAT melodies and excellent orcehstration.
After 14 years a reply, I am very exited if you will react though.---
There is a part in the song, about after 2 thirds of it, when the orchestra is so loud, that I can hardly hear Katja's voice, though she is definitely singing. That is not great orchestration at all .
Thank you ESC, nice to see you are still here these years later! Thank you for summing it up. I still love the song, and I still would place Sweden first!
She Should be the winner of the competition
We 3; Tasos, you & I each differ on where we would rate Diese Welt in the Katja pantheon. I think this was her best in all respects: melody, performance and especially lyrics - a "green" anthem long before "green" became popular. And Katja is a queen of ESC.
For me. the best of 3 Katja's songs at eurovision. In 1971 she, not Severine, deserved victory.
for me, Séverine deserved victory and Katja top 2.
Clodagh Rogers is a neighbour to friends & relatives - from the same town. Jack In the Box is the first song I ever performed in public - at a school concert. It's quirky pop in the UK ESC style. Definitely top 5 calibre in 71. I love it still.
bettter than "Wunder gibt es immer wieder"
Yes, I had indeed Sims in mind when I uploaded these videos. Actually, my (quite ambitious) goal is to slowly work into building back his collection, at least those videos that were exclusive to him. Fingers crossed I can make it at least a significant part of the way. As for this one, you understand that when I say "weakest", it doesn't mean all that much, since all of her three entries are undisputed classics (I doubt if there's any other artist in ESC history with such an impressive run).
I’m making a sim of her
good song!!!!
Thanks for that, tasos - just what we need after Sims111's demise. I think this is a great song as well, very well performed indeed. I understand the subtelty by which you mean the 'weakest' of her three entries but this is still probably my second favourite of hers after "Theater". Quite a concrete top-5 that year, wasn't it?
Grandiose!
Dieter Zimmermann at the beginning, conductor and songwriter of this song. Fiance of Agnetha (ABBA)1968. Died young aged 34 in 1978.
He was the first composer who made songs for agnetha in german..
Andrea, good to hear you comments. I think we all agree how good all 3 songs are and how well performed. I dont mind being in a minority. I just sooo love Wunder Gibt! BTW what do you think of Bulgaria ESC 09? It's kind of interesting. I need to hear it a few times to make up my mind. But IMO it's a vast improvement on last year.
baeutiful song!
Platz 3 in 1971 !
one the most impressive songs ever (but we are living on a planet, not on a star)
Diese Welt has almost surpassed Un Banc Un Abre Une Rue as my fav of 71, both in the pantheon of all time ESC greats. Oh! If only we could see the likes of this again! BTW I didnt tick you off for your earlier opinions of Bulgaria 09 but rather commented on the ferocity of said opinions
She's pure elegance and talent but the song is a rather unfortunate composition, the refrain feels a bit jolty. I found her previous song "Wunder" much better.
@tasosk3 Hi, Mr. ESCsince1968 and Mr TasosK3, youtube exchanges often make me cringe (or even weep)...but this one made me laugh out loud...thanks for making my day and reminding me that there are still some civilized people out there in the ether! Also, thanks for sharing the song!
👌
And the Diggiloo Song Thrush provides a translation of every non English song into English.
@atomik4568 I wasnt aware that my exchanges with Tasos were being monitored or that they made anyone cringe (me wonders why?). But I accept with equanimity the 'civilised' compliment. And give praise as always to the lovely TasosK3 for sharing the moments ,like Katja performing not far from where I was born and raised, that without fail bring a smile and uplift.
GOOD
GOOD SONG
Of the 3 ESC entries from Katja Ebstein this is perhaps my least favorite, still a classy song though!
And for me, it's the best of her 3 ESC entries... I love environmental-messages, especially at that time when most people didn't realize it could ever be a problem...
While "Wunder Gibt Es Immer Wieder" is definitely my favorite of hers and is my fave from 1970 and one of my all-time faves, this song has really grown on me and become my favorite of '71 as well! Though that has at least a little to do with that 1971 was a rather poor year, but I also think" Diese Welt" is really catchy and moving.
@@Euroviking86 1971 was a rich year!
I dint know why but for me i think a that was "competition" whit this song and the Spanish entry.
But 12 p. from Iceland
Is your school performance recorded in video or film? Because I'd definitely love to watch it! :-D
T. I knew you'd pick up very well on the language register. And yes everything is subjective & in my subjectivity I cant countenance any suggestion of weakness about this song. But I knew exactly what you meant - I've seen your many comments. For me Diese Welt is in the pantheon of ESC greats. Maybe if you'd used a different form of words to express the view (big grin). And judging from out YT poll DW stands the test of time.
Mr. TasosK3, I feel compelled to demand you to defend the charge of even "relative" weakness of this song, for I see it not anywhere.
real POWER !
... was ein Bühnenbild 🙂
I know it has been three years, if you are still around, or anyone, Since I do not speak German, can anyone sum up the meaning of the song. I had posted it was my favorite after Sweden's entry. I am a total music melody and instrumental and orchestration man and lyrics are an aforethought for me. So all these years later, I still do not know what this song is about =)
Basically it’s about caring for the environment
Jesus! It was in the summer of 1971 not long after the contest I dont think we even knew then what a video was nor would anyone have had cine-camaras. Besides, I would NEVER perform before a camara. LOL!
Such a funny hairstyle she had
Yeah, he certainly was. His account was terminated due to a 'terms of use' violation (these kinds of occurences have become frighteningly common here). I understand that it was because of his Melodifestivalen videos - his was not the only account with such videos that went the way of the dodo. What a waste, and for what? :S We're gonna miss you, Sims.
Mr. ESCsince1968: It's all a matter of subjective opinion, isn't it? In no way do I mean that this is a weak song per se. Far be it from me to even imply such a thing! (Gosh, I love speaking in such a "gentleman-ly" manner, lol!) I was just saying that I personally prefer "Wunder Gibt..." and "Theater", without this taking anything away from the fabulousness of this particular number.
Why does she looks like Mary Jane Watson from Spiderman?
Edit : Grammar error
i vote for monaco because it´s muslim-free. thats why haha. cyprus is greek.
Katja was one of the hottest girls in the eurosongfestival. She did 3 tours and always won bronze (1970), bronze (1971) and silver (1980). Very excellent......... Katja must have Dutch ancestors......
And I agree with you that it was a very strong top-5 in a very strong year. The only one I could say I don't agree on is the UK, which I still think is a very entertaining number (even if it's another song in the "Puppet on a String"/"Boom Bang A Bang" mould). It's just that I would prefer to see another of my favorites, like Portugal or the Netherlands, in its place. But, as I said, it's still a good song and I quite understand its appeal.
Bonita cancion.
Deßaven
I put this a very close second behind Sweden's "Vita Vidder".
This is probably the first contest I ever watched. I was going to be 10. I don't watch it anymore. I stopped after the 1983 contest. I am also against the contest as such.
@atlanticclaire33 Erbsenzähler!!!
Climate change song
Brilliant song. Of course, it should be noted that this was the WEST German entry. The East German one was "My Trabi Never Breaks Down" by Dean Reed.
Isherwood we meet again
Hey at least you aren’t creeping on this queen
That little burst of music at the very beginning gives me the creeps. It's like something from a cremation.
If katja found you she’d literally 1v1 your ass
