My mom is an RN, and I think of all the lives she's impacted in her service, which never ends, even in retirement ;-). It's hopeful to think of how many people and professionals your VHS, DVDs, and UA-cam videos have helped in one way or another in your 28 years of recording medical information - basic or life-changing information. That's a humanitarian legacy.

      @@GypsyAlex
I regularly describe myself as a 'news junkie' - I've personally studied & analysed different types of media, looking at media law, ethics, policy, & other factors.
I later went into academic research in the area psycho-cognitive linguistics, language, & cognition, which is basically everything to with language & the brain (with _many_ different specialist areas falling under that umbrella).
Most (serious) journalists I know describe themselves as 'news junkies'; as do media analysts - also a complex area.
Understanding what is happening from multiple perspectives helps us understand the news - and the world - a lot better.
Being able to compare tone, message, the way news is delivered across different platforms, different channels, in different countries etc. builds the truest ideas & most comprehensive understanding.
(I'm using the term 'news' broadly - this video is news, it pertains to current events; all Covid19 research on journal databases/ accessible through scholar.google.com is open access at this time - it's news too.)
Forensic linguists study, e.g. statements given to police by witnesses of a crime; statements made in court; analyse written documents relating to crime, or other investigations - most famous: 'is this a serial killer letter, or a copycat?' That's just for an easy example of linguistics functioning in the context of news.
'News junkie' doesn't mean 'Fox news addict' or 'I absorb every word in the Daily Mail every single day' - or an appropriate equivalent for wherever in the world you are located.
I do realise that sounds like a crazy amount of stuff. It's not necessary to do it *all* about everything; although there are very easy/ quick ways to do it, especially with experience. And like *everything* experience is key. Everyone has some sort of skill they have practiced, developed - work or hobby.
I analyse news (& language) without even thinking about it.
If I were to 'work on' a project, there's a different level of analysis, but I glean more than the average person from watching the same thing, purely through years of practice.
To get a comprehensive overview of the day's news, when I was studying, it was reading the first paragraphs of news stories in the newspapers. Quick.
These days, it's subscribing to multiple 'breaking news' sources on Twitter & skimming headlines just to get an overview of what's going on in the world.
(Sorry I didn't mean that to be so long. I type really fast. And I talk a lot. :)

I'd probably had it at least two or three years without knowing... There are 30 different types of OC, and in some, the CA125 is never raised at all.... Be lovely (and simple to check for) if a raised CA125 was a reliable guide, but it absolutely is not... MJ Williamsb That doesn’t necessarily work either. My mom had total hysterectomy at 72 because of uterine problems, but 11 years later at 83 during gall bladder surgery drs discovered 1/3 of her liver was cancerous. That gall bladder removal surgery took them 5 hours and put her in intensive care for 5 days, and many days after still in hospital. Testing indicated that the cancer in her liver was actually ovarian cancer cells. Unable to remove part of her liver due to age, she opted for chemo, but passed shortly after her 1st treatment. CA 125 test sometimes but not necessarily helpful in diagnosing ovarian cancer but I’ve heard of a new test that is very promising re earlier diagnosis. My point is ovary removal didn’t save her from ovarian cancer lodging in her liver.

As I listened to this video, I was wondering if there were any statistics on surgery-induced menopause in younger women, but it was not specifically mentioned. I am 55 yrs old, started having symptoms of menopause in my early 40's, started having the hot-flashes in my late 40's. I have never been on HRT's, as I can't justify using it due to the possible side-effects/health issues it may cause. I now get very few hot-flashes during the day, but still have the night sweats and insomnia. I, too, take Covid-19 seriously, due to age, some health issues, and just because it is such a new virus that the experts know so little about thus far. So glad I found Dr. Campbell's YT channel--he is so very knowledgeable, and presents things in a way the average person can understand. I also enjoy his personality!

It’s a little counterintuitive tbh... I understand obese males also have elevated levels of estrogen, but their estrogen doesn’t seem to protect them very much, as they are one of the high risk groups.
I was guessing it had to do with the ACE2 receptors being more prevalent in men than in women, causing the higher rates and severity in men.

    Dear Dr Campbell
How can I reach you to express my profound gratitude?
I have worked in the United States in crisis communications for over a decade, with fortune 100 companies, a US President, as well as internationally, especially in Asia.
When I first heard whispers of a virus in China, I was deeply concerned, and I took to the internet to find real information about it.
From my life and training, I know how information has historically been suppressed in and by China.
I have learned also how to find a source of genuine information about any given crisis. This must be separate from the corporation/government/individuals involved, and also the opportunistic organizations that work only to smear or lay blame on their adversaries.
I have learned to always immediately seek and identity the independent voice of reason in each and every crisis circumstance.
Whether it benefited my client or not.
Despite any ingrained institutional resistance, and/or culture which had inevitably generated the crisis to begin with.
For myself, and ultimately for any possible real solution and healing, the truth had to be revealed, and addressed, and measures had to be taken to insure that these patterns could no longer be replicated.
In a crisis, you have to IMMEDIATELY become an instant expert on the topic/location/history/future potential ramifications, presented by the crisis.
To appropriately and immediately address the situation, the consequences, and to insure the public that all necessary steps have been taken to insure that whatever has occurred, it will NEVER HAPPENS AGAIN.

      To continue...
This is to say that YOU are the one,
clear independent source of scientific information.
That I am deeply grateful to you for all your efforts in this profoundly difficult time.
That we in the United States, given the appalling national politicization of this international-pandemic, are struggling, and dying, unnecessarily .
That your clarity, humanity, and compassion are always a comfort and radiant light of what it means to be human. Especially when here in America, our most senior leaders are leading us to hatred and death.
May the world heal itself and ALL its people.
May we grow in humanity from this unprecedented moment of challenge.
May you know how profoundly grateful I , and so many others across the world are for the service you have given mankind through your work, your efforts your expertise , and your profound humanity.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart. On behalf of myself, my child, and all of the world. I know you hold each and every one of us in the same cradle of compassion and respect. I hold you the same way in my heart. I know so very many people do. God Bless you, Dr. Campbell.

Also woman with pcos are more prone to diabetes. I have pcos and have dropped taking the combination pill, does this mean me and women like me are more at risk?

That research misses one potentially vital factor. A lot of women approaching menopause, during and after menopause take vitamin D to help calcium absorption to prevent osteoporosis. They either have it in natural foods, fortified foods or as tablets. So they should have also looked at vitamin D levels.

what about phytoestrogens surely they would attach to the appropriate places to block the covid too??? a little less risky than actual estrogen

yes, I wonder if you cut cut down your symptoms by drinking a lot of soy milk, that has tons of phytoestrogens. Well, hopefully I'll never get it but if I do I will drink lots of soy milk.

@@faroukabad hi, be carefull with the soy...to not be GMO. I discovered even the non GMO soy is actually gmo..so I never drink soy milks and void soy products. Last time when I consumed some non GMO soy (due to thinking that is healthy) I ended with a thyroid nodule...Take care. Better try other plant based milks, not the soy)

Phytoestrogens I found about as much use as a chocolate fireguard.

I was going to ask that very question. I’m vegan, so probably consume high levels of phytoestrogens. I’m hoping it will be protective. I don’t really get concerned about GMOs. Most of what we eat has been tampered with over centuries. Have you ever seen wild broccoli?

Gill Osborne GMO’s a created specifically to have resistance to pesticides and herbicides-so they are sprayed with these heavily. It’s not always so much the genetics, it is what they are bred to resist: pesticide application. I try to avoid them as much as possible.

Women aged 45 and above are considered to have reducing oestrogen and are called peri-menopause. When they’ve had one year without a period they are in menopause for just one day. Thereafter they are post menopausal. Menopause symptoms can be anytime from 45 and above. Women younger than 45 can also be peri menopausal but they may not realise due to their age.

    • @nowtsofunny3035

And to add peri menopausal women can also be on HRT. You don’t have to wait until you are post menopausal.
