Gokanoshō, which is scattered deep in the Kyushu Mountains of the 1300 to 1700 m class, is the five villages of Shiihara, Nitao, Kashiki, Hagi, and Kureko, which were former villages in Izumi Town, Yatsushiro City (formerly Izumi Village). It is a general term for. Gokanoshō was a closed area that is said to be an unexplored region of Kyushu, but tourists began to set foot after visiting the legend of the Heike that was passed down in the village. It is also the westernmost part of the mountainous settlements distributed in the outer mountainous areas of western Japan.
According to the "Hisatsu Kokugyo", the Saiza family, a descendant of Sugawara no Michizane, who was sent to Dazaifu by Mr. Fujiwara during the Heian period, entered this area avoiding Fujiwara's revenge and was defeated by Nitao, Kabane, and Dannoura. It is said that the three grandchildren of Taira no Kiyotsune also fled and gave their surnames Ogata, and lived in hiding in Kureko, Shiihara, and Hagi, respectively. Of course, it's an unreliable legend, but it's the result of the people who live there asking, "Why did my ancestors come to live in such mountains?"
Shiihara is the center of the five settlements and is formed on the river terrace of the Kawabe River. The Ogata family is said to be a descendant of the Heike family, and is preserved and opened to the public as a prefectural designated cultural property. In addition to the Ogata family, you can see old folk houses with hipped roofs. Kureko is a valley bottom village opened in the Kureko Kawadani, a tributary of the Kawabe River, and is home to ancient dances and the Kureko chicken, a natural monument of the prefecture. Hagi is a village of Taniuchi Kawadani, a tributary of the Kawabe River, and has a waterfall called "Sendan Todoro Waterfall". Nitao does not form a cohesive settlement upstream of the Ohara River, and is dotted with several houses. Kashiki is located in the innermost part of Gokaso, on the hillside facing the Kawabe River. Nowadays, there is a tourist facility called "Heike no Sato", a museum that tells the story of Heike's fallen people and how he lived at that time. Further up the valley from Kashiki, it becomes a pass that crosses the ridgeline of the Kyushu Mountains called Shiibakoshi, and reaches Shiiba Village.

今度、秋に、（土日ではなく平日の日中に）五家荘へ車で行こうと考えている、他県の者です。
10:15～10：20にかけての話によると、椎原から、五木村の頭地まで、車で30分ほどかかるそうですが、
「道の駅・子守歌の里・五木」から、「五家荘・平家の里」まで車で行こうとすると、片道何分ぐらいかかるでしょうか？。
狭い道が多く、離合しないといけない場所も多いという事でしたが、山道の運転に慣れていないと、危ないでしょうか？。
特に雨の日や、寒い日・霜の日などが心配ですが。宜しくお願い致します。

秋ですし霜は大丈夫かと、雨はもちろん慎重にですが、ゆっくり走ってですので。道は狭いところありますが、それほどでもないですよ（昔は狭かった）
