Why we use Arabic in Islam? Because we want to mantain and keep the real script of the Quran/Koran and also when you translate language to another language , you wont get the EXACT same feeling and meaning anymore , also the language itself can unite us cause Eventho non Arab muslims couldn't speak Arabic but since in Islam we all praying in Arabic , we wouldn't have any problem prayin side by side with all muslim around the world since we all gonna recite the same verses which Arabic .
And for us the southeast asian muslims, we are taught to read the Quran in Arabic since we were kids so we can read the Arabic but we dont know what it means unless there's translation next to it , but still when we recite/read the Quran we have to read the Arabic as the original language

    Guys,
There is a new bridge connecting from Brunei Muara district to Brunei temburong district which was opened last 2 years if I'm not mistaken. It is the longest bridge in Southeast Asia, 30 kilometres (19 mi) long. It connects Mengkubau and Sungai Besar in Brunei-Muara District with Labu Estate in Temburong District. This is the only road bridge in the country that directly links the mainland with the Temburong , which are physically separated by the Sarawak district of Limbang in Malaysia and Brunei Bay in the South China Sea. The bridge allows commuters to travel between the two territories without having to go through Malaysia, bypassing four immigration checkpoints along the mainland route and shortening travel times between Temburong and the capital Bandar Seri Begawan. Previously, the only direct connection between the capital and Bangar, the district town, was via water taxi services, which took about 45 minutes.

He did a lot of things to the citizens. example like subsidies on the oil and gas/petrol for the car and most of the items in the store and we only have to pay $1 to do a checkup in the hospital, the price for educations are cheap.. so we are thankful for the Sultan
the only one who are upsets are non-bruneian citizens because they think the Sultan takes all the money for himself

Hi thanks for your interest on Brunei, let me help you with some clarification ( although i might be wrong in some places )
    1) this video is very old, now Brunei have its own bridge that connect from the main district to Temburong district without going to Malaysia, this helps to reduce the time from 2+hours of travelled from the main district to Temburong which now only take 20mins traveling. Other mode of transport we can still use boat from the capital to Temburong 😊
    2) It is not arabic to be exact. Its ‘jawi’ but it kinda use arabic alphabet a little bit but i promised u that it is not Arabic. The pronunciation is the same 100% if we use normal alphabet just we use ‘jawi’ in certain places.
    3) the cost of living is not that quiet high actually, but different Neighbour country may find it high. Just imagine converting money to Singapore dollar as BND and SGD is 1. But the cost of living is not the same as Singapore, people in Brunei also find out that cost of living in SG is very high. That is why most of the basic salary in SG is very high, such cleaner will have thousand while in Brunei just hundreds because in Brunei we dont have income tax.
Bruneian, help me to add if necessary or some of my statement is wrong to help these beautiful curious mens.

In Malaysia, Brunei, and Indonesia, we have another writing since our main religion is Islam, so we can READ arabic, and since during the old times, Arabic influence has brought arabic writing over here on our side. Since we don’t wanna use arabic as our language, of course we want to have our own language which is malay, so the people in the old times took arabic letters as an inspiration and added a few more letters to form what you call JAWI. Jawi are arabic letters but the words that are formed by the letters are read in malay.
Its probably complicated for you to understand, but basically Jawi is not a language but a kind of writing system inspired by the arabic letters. But the words are still malay, just the writing is using arabic letters.
    For example,
    English: paper
    Malay/Brunei/Indonesian: kertas
*Jawi (writing only, not a language): كرتس -> still pronounced as ‘kertas’
Arabic: ورق -> pronounced as ‘waraq’
So you see, its just a writing system, inspired by arabic but read in malay.

Language is a funny thing. Some language describe one thing which has more meaning. That is why in Islam, most other culture that adopt it kept the Islamic studies mostly in Arabic to keep it pristine. If you keep translating it, over generation, you have different interpretation of what it suppose to be. It is also to provide unity in the religion. Since the Prophet speaks Arabic himself.

In terms of governance, Brunei is an absolute monarch. Our ruler is super rich and he takes care of the welfare of the people and thus popular and well-loved by everyone. We have no personal income tax, free healthcare including free covid19 vaccines for everyone, free education and heck if you're doing well in your studies, you can be awarded scholarships to study overseas. So Brunei is actually a welfare state.

Well it's not actually Arabic language, we use the writing system but not the language. It is called Jawi writing system.
Same like english use the romanised writing system.
    To make it simple:
Saya - Romanised writing system Malay language
ساي - Jawi writing system (write right to the left) yet still read in Malay language

sometimes if translated there is a language that distorts the true meaning, which if left unchecked will change from time to time

Correct me if I'm wrong. Christianity in the west first was thru Romans and it was also them who translate hebrew to latin script and have been the norm of bible in Europe eversince. The spread of Islam in Malay world in most part brought directly from Arab region thru trade and it was since about 10-13th century. The Malay world or Nusantara adopted the Arabic script and knowned as Jawi for writings and literature extensively before latin script came thru Portuguese in 15th century. There were many local writing scripts across the Malay world but none was anchored into the society and tradition and widely throughout the region as much as Jawi. Besides, it is a popular teaching that Arabic language is the language of heaven & god which makes Muslims even motivated to at least know how to read arabic script.

From its history, language and so on, that's where we adopt it from.

As a Bruneiean (brunei it’s late update but it’s ok ) Whispers: I mean seriously look at the empty building just destroy it the government is rich but why didn’t destroy it already (I’m not judging my country btw tho🙃) And that’s why speak Arabic 😎 Edit:and Brunei is was so big in nthe early century because the British guy judge my people nicely and give a lot of things to get the county updated and gives the land at differents time then after the war ends I think the government don’t where to give the land and give it to Malaysia 🇲🇾 that’s all I got bye.

As Muslim it is obligatory to learn how to read Arabic because the Quran is written in Arabic BUT we don’t have to learn the language just how to read it and even so the letters in the Quran are different as letters have vowels signs so makes learn and read Quran easier meanwhile the real Arabic language in Middle East countries we can’t read that as they don’t include the vowel signs, so if you wanna know how to read it you gotta learn the language. Meanwhile in the case of Malay language, before Roman letters came during colonialism we used mostly Sanskrit script and then when Islam came in to the archipelago we used Arabic script to write Malay and other indigenous languages and that’s why I’d not have a problem reading Arabic letters in Brunei because the language they use is Malay even though the Arabic letters don’t have vowel signs, get it?

In Islam we use Arabic as that is the original language God transmitted the message. Of course there are many translation from the Arabic but the interpretation/translation can always be checked against the original one which is the Arabic
Unlike the Bible, there is none original manuscripts anymore, Hence, as the consequence many versions now available and could easily be exposed to corruption of the text

The language of the Quran " the book of Islam " is Arabic and you can't read it otherwise except for learning its meaning using another language. cause it is the words of god.
Quran is essential for prayers "salah" thus you can only do prayers with Arabic.
and yes there are many translated Qurans you can find in mosques it will have the Arabic words alongside a translation of their meanings.

    Cost of living?
Typical Brunei would be earning at $12,000 annually if they're not working at the government. Per month expenses at least $400 x 12 months : $4,800 for each person. If they have a family, that's another calculation.
Typical family, both married couple can earn together at least $2,800 per month say example the husband works at the army while the wife works In a private or semi government job. So if a family of 3 children, 2 parents... Expenses would be at least $1,500 if they're not spending lavishly.
In the eyes of every Americans I meat, Houses here are the cheapest they ever known. But to bruneians, due to our earnings, $50,000 is even a feat. $60,000 can get you a two storey building, 2 bedrooms, 1 large kitchen, living room, laundry area 3 bathrooms, 0.1 acre at least $60,000 I guess.
