Watch out for what is happening on the stock markets just now, watch the over enthusiastic mass short selling of shares well over the available amount of shares and backing, there could be another repeat of 2008, and the housing and business lending markets will be smashed just as all this is happening, its very irresponsible just like financial looting 😳

I hope you are trying to get out of California. It's going to get dicey really fast. You might think about Oklahoma no one else is. Lots of food low population. Cheap homes. I picked up a beautiful house for $5,000 I'm not joking I had to put a new roof on it and while I was at it I put a large fence around the three lot. central heat and air unit had to be replaced three bedroom two bath. if if I was to drop that anywhere else on the planet it would be and $80,000 house easily oh and by the way you can't beat those disgustingly cold winners and very hot summers there is that.

I saw an unusually long line of people yesterday waiting outside my neighborhood Trader Joe's in DC. It was the longest line I'd seen since the early days of the Pandemic. Why? Because there was a prediction of several inches of snow today, Sunday, which began this morning. I thought, look how people rush to the store before a simple winter snowfall - what does that say about how prepared people are for something more serious? Your video is right on point.

I'm an introvert and do most things alone. I'm a 'boomer' and was taught gardening, sewing, knitting, poultry raising, diy, fishing and hunting small game and still practise frugal living and almost debt free. My neighbours who encouraged me to join their group aimed at 'supporting each other' in times of need took more off me than I ever needed from them. I left the group to cries of you'll never survive on your own and you'll regret leaving the group. That's deluded and I know I'll need to protect myself from them if SHTF.

You'd be surprised at the people who lost all resolve and simply gave up and perished when rescue was less than a mile away, and also people who had almost nothing, on the middle of a huge ocean on a life raft, and found the way to survive and be recovered. It has always been my hope that my help would provide a kick start to independence. Unfortunately is rarely ever does. Here in the States, salaried employees and many wage-paid employees are paid on or near the first, and sometimes the 15th, of each month. Social Security and Disability checks are generally paid on the 1st, 2nd, or 3rd, depending on the type of payment. Food stamps are paid during the first ten days of a month, based on the last digit of the EBT card. Pretty much anyone who would have money coming in on a regular basis would see it within a week of the first of the month, more or less. I won't tell anyone what to do with their money or other resources, but if you have a few dollars left after paying the rent, utilities and this pay period's food, it would be a good idea to get preps, and to get them early if you can.

    • @superdave8248
      @superdave8248 3 роки тому +2

Here is my take on it. (This will be a long post.)
First, the main reason 90% of the population won't survive? Simple numbers. There are far to many people on the planet. And the ones that produce food are a very small minority.
Second, and this is especially true for industrialized nations, our health care prolongs life for people who would normally not survive. And this health care won't be able to continue that support in a wide spread SHTF situation. So for example, two people go to a pharmacy to get insulin. One person is getting it for a elderly family member. The other is getting it for a teenager. There is only one vial left. Who gets it? The reality? Either one. They could fight for it and the better fighter could get it. They could bargain for it. Or they could simply talk it out and come to a general decision. But here is the thing. It doesn't matter who gets it. Both are likely to die. Just one before the other. Whoever ends up with it has only given their perspective person some extra time. And without regular shots of insulin that person is going to quickly degrade in health and the group is going to have to divert more energy and resources trying to acquire a drug that may not even be available, may have expired or gone bad, or may even be fake and offer no benefit at all.
Third, people are going to seek safety and migrate to any area where they think there is resources. This is just human nature. If people can't drive, they will steal bicycles. If they can't steal those, they will walk. And those who are walking will be like a plague of locus from days of old. You have an apple tree? They will pick the tree bare of fruit. Then they will pick the leaves. Next they will snap off the small branches. And at some point somebody is just going to cut the tree for firewood. And where will people flock to? Water resources and coastal areas. Why the coast? Because they will think fishing will be easer. Unknown to them, in the time it took to walk to the beach, the entire coast line has been over fished and stocks are completely depleted. There is no food to be had.
Four, expect road blocks. People will set up toll roads. Their goal? To pull resources from anybody who has them and to prevent people without resources from crossing into their perceived area of control. The smart approach is to avoid roads. An alternative is to use rail lines. But most rail systems go into major cities or towns so even this isn't the perfect choice. The reality is you are probably better to travel at night and rest during the day.
Five, lone wolves die alone. You might have the skills, the gear, and the resources to survive long term, but at the end of the day you have to sleep some time. And if you look well equipment you are likely to be shot before you even know the threat is there. Smart people will minimize their use of weapons and ammo to conserve this resource but if somebody see you in full tactical gear 300 yards away, it is almost a guarantee that if they have under the crosshairs of a scoped rifle, they are going to pull the trigger. Both to neutralize a potential threat as well as gain the resources on your person. Stay in a group. Preferably a small one.
Six, pray like hell it isn't winter when SHTF. Or you are going through some natural disaster like a drought. People exerting themselves, facing poor nutrition, and possible sick with things like the flu or a cold are not long for this earth.
Seven, are they friends or neighbors? Even if you spent every week playing cards with your next door neighbor for years, if you still have resources when they run out, you can be assured that your neighbor is coming asking. And if asking doesn't work, they are coming by force wants desperation kicks in. Just my suggestion but you are a fool to cook precooked food by day three. The cooking smell will carry and people will be looking.

Society won't turn into rabid lunatics in the first week of a SHTF scenario. At least not small towns and rural societies. The big helpless cities, yes. I can see that. So dependent on first world conveniences they've built giant concrete death traps the moment water, electricity, and food supplies are cut off.
But the rest of the majority of the country? Likely many communities will band together and try to help each other. You're already on the wrong track if you're planning a lone-wolf existence. The lone-wolves will have the most difficult time.

During a storm with a high chance of potential tornadoes, a neighbor without a basement came over with his wife and his two kids. My wife was home alone and didn't think anything of it to let them into the basement where they can be sheltered and even gave them some hot chocolate and some food. They used our towels to dry themselves off and to keep a bit warm and then left with those towels to get home and what we thought maybe return them later. I never saw those again.
Point is in a not terribly urgent emergency since there was no tornadoes, they still decided to walk away with our stuff as well as seek refuge in our home and we've never met these people before, said hi or any other gestures, or do anything about them. They didn't even live next door but rather four houses down.
Unfortunately my wife is incredibly trusting but I'm working on it. Not going to destroy her humanity but just opening the door for anybody, that has to stop.

So even if it is not strangers, if you have family, well if you are stocked for a family of 3 and 3 family members come by and want to stay that cuts all your supplies by half. That's half as long that you can survive. Unless those you are letting in can bring something to the table, in a serious SHTF type situation letting people in is very bad for survival. Again, having folks to provide security, go out on recons etc can provide benefit to them being there, but if they are just taking your resources it's a huge negative.

Almost no city will be able to keep providing water, much less drinkable water. I think moving to a rural area at least a gas tank full of fuel away from a city and any survivors would be your only chance of survival. There are numerous studies that support this assumption. Again, your videos are always well thought out and executed. I also appreciate your approach. Your i tent is to inform and not to put fear in people. However, from my perspective, if they are afraid, they are probably not afraid enough. Bought a Benjamin .22 pellet rifle. I'll tell you, that thing packs a wallop. Great for small game and maybe a well placed shot to ward the takers coming for your shtuff.

I still think the best prep is for the most like scenarios: fire, floods, ice storms, tornadoes, temporary and extended power outages, boil warnings, and short term supply chain disruptions. Most people are not even prepared for these scenarios. Being fully prepared for these common events would make you more prepared for an SHTF event than over 85% of the American households.

My (few) friends realize they are coming to me for my skills, not my supplies. I constantly tell them to stock up, knowing I will not be around to help them other than security..my family comes first

When the topic comes up, and strangers say they will come to my place. I tell them I will have lead coated in copper coming at them fast and hot. I will not be stingy as I will serve them seconds and thirds. Makes them really think about their plans on mooching off me or others.

You can stockpile all kinds of things in your home. Pantries can be full. BUT if you cannot stay in your house what do you do in that situation with all your stockpiled supplies? Load in you car or truck? What about gas??? It all blows my mind!!

I would say about 98% and you need at least 7 years of basic preps if you consider a small scale nuclear war (say in the Middle East or N. Korea etc) or a VEI 7 volcanic eruption a possibility. People are just not prepared for -40 weather in 10 days. (7 years for normal weather to return)

I have been living in Chicago without electricity for three winters. I bought candles 🕯️ on Amazon, a good camping lamp at Walmart that I charge in my car; I store my food in a metal bucket outside and use a propane heater. I have an alpaca blanket, and I sleep cozy at night. The apartment has a gas stove and hot water.

Depending on the situation; 90% mortality may well be optimistic. Also consider that if the event is regional the probability of being invaded by another power that wasn't as heavily effected would be considerable. If only for natural resources if nothing else. Nature abhors a vacuum and human history has proven time and time again that if we cannot protect what is "ours" then someone will take it.

This was one of the most realistic depiction I've seen so far. However, I totally disagree with prepping so you can give food away. If you feed them once, you'll have to feed them forever. They will tell others where they got food and soon you'll have hoards of people breaking your door down.
I believe in the "Gray man" theory. Look and act like you have nothing and you'll be ignored. I won't even let family members talk me out of food. I have warned them for years. If they think I'll save them from their ignorance, they're mistaken. Remember, for each family member you help comes in-laws, extended family members, and friends. One person can bring 10 to 50 people to your door. Now you've failed.
Be very careful of groups. I've been in three. One was getting members to pitch in on a large transport vehicle filled with food. I guarantee when SHTF that rig will disappear without the group. One advocated killing others for resources. The last one had people wasting money on radiation suits and other useless items. There comes a time when you have to accept your dead. If your quality of life has dropped to a point of trying to survive in a radioactive wasteland, it's time to call it quits.
Remember, you're not surviving alone. There will be thousands of people competing with you. That is the biggest mistake preppers make. The other is thinking your bad-ass AK or AR will scare everyone away. You'll need a little red wagon to carry a reasonable supply of ammo for extended survival. A 22 cal will do just as good. The ammo is lightweight, it's quiet and easy to hide. Hoarding lots of guns won't help either. If you're overrun, you just armed those coming after you. You just might be taken out by your own weapons.
The most valuable weapon is GOD.
