"Room a Thousand Years Wide" is my personal favourite off the album (It's just so interesting), but Badmotorfinger in it's entirety is one of my favourite albums to this day, three decades later.
Oh you have got to hear him in Temple of the Dog - Say Hello 2 Heaven and "When I'm down live at the troubadour". Two incredible ballads where Chris is pouring his heart out both in his singing and the lyrics.
Goodness, It's been so long since I've heard the SG version, I had to stop and think this was covered by Cash and not the other way around, with Hurt that makes two that JC owns.
I watched a chris Cornell interview once that talked about this. He actually wrote this song for Cash , and covered it himself also. JC wrote i am the highway for Chris. He said not many people knew about the great friendship they had
Whenever I hear the end of Rusty Cage I expect it to be followed by the beginning of Outshined. Probably because I’m old enough to remember buying this album on TAPE when it first came out. I still have it somewhere…
Rysty Cage was a total game changer - a transition from "popular" alt-rock/grunge to a much heavier area.......truly trend setting. The drums on this album is just epic....

Or Sunshower... essentially anything he does live acoustic is amazing. I think they've already reacted to I Am the Highway, but it's another experience when it's just Chris and his acoustic on a stage at a smaller venue (definitely sung like a ballad).
The Soundgarden you need to listen to next: Nothing to Say, Fell on Black Days, Beyond the Wheel. Chris Cornell you need: Seasons, Nearly forgot my broken heart. Then more Audioslave is a must!
I always thought, this was the most aptly named band, ever. I had no idea, that Soundgarden, was a musical statue in Seattle. I didn't understand or appreciate it's regional significance. Despite, frequent visits. This didn't deminish my respect, for the band's name. It enhanced it. It personalized it. It became tribal, and relevant. I loved it even more. I loved the nuance, the ornimentalism, I loved the textures, it's counterpoint. There was a lot of N.W. creativity, making the rounds then. Portland, and Seattle, both had booming scenes. Seattle gets slightly more rain, then Portland; Yet, we're brothers. We've always been brothers. I new of Soundgarden, for years before seeing them. I saw that name many times, on flyers, yet never saw them. The Melvins, Tad, Mudhoney, that was "grunge." Frequent Satyricon, fodder. So were the "Accused, Poison Idea, the Detonators." Lots of great punk rock. I saw Soundgarden for the 1st time on the Loud Love tour. "Voivod," opened. One of my favorite bands. I was blown away, yet that was the only time, I saw Chris sing, live. I became his biggest fan. As a singer, it was Chris that I would sing along with the most. Great training. I really miss Chris. I really miss Soundgarden. I miss the Era. It was a part of me, a great part. A great era.
I'd like to suggest Soundgarden's "Limo Wreck" from Superunknown. Rarely played on radio and underappreciated IMO. Interesting time signatures, classic down tuned grunge guitar, amazing vocals as you'd expect. I played the crap out of this song at my local beer bar.
After all of the fluff of the 80's, you can imagine how deeply we drank up Soundgarden. I was 21 when this album came out and all of us were ready and waiting for music to go into this direction. Great reaction. Check out Johnny Cash's version of this same song. Hard to believe this song could be made into a country tune, even harder to believe that Johnny would do such a great job, that I almost feel this song was meant to be his. It'll blow your hair back kids! Cheers!
@@Laurikiwi This song is NOT a cover of Johnny Cash. Cornell has talked about how he was asked by Johnny's people about a cover of Rusty Cage and he was fine with it but had no clue how he'd make it work for a country song.
@@Laurikiwi Wrong. Chris Cornell is the songwriter. It was released on Badmotorfinger in 1992 before Johnny Cash made his 1994 comeback. Johnny's cover, chosen by producer Rick Rubin, was released on Unchained in 1996. Johnny's backing band is Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers. In the Unchained liner notes, Johnny says he doesn't really know what the song is about. He was nominated for the best country vocal Grammy for this cover.
@@Laurikiwi Johnny Cash did the cover version. It was on his 1996 album "American II: Unchained" album. There were 14 songs on the album and 11 of them were covers.

You gotta listen to 2 songs from that same album “Slaves & Bulldozers” & “Searching With My Good Eye Closed”......2 of the most amazing vocal performances ever put to tape
I think Cornell was at his Zenith in the earlier days with the release of Ultramega Ok and Louder Than Love. 88 through 90. Songs like loud love, big dumb sex, hands all over, flower, get on the snake. Going back farther with the release Screaming Life.

Cornell's a hell of a ballad singer too. "When I'm Down" from his first solo album is my favorite, but a lot of people will go to bat for his vibey slowed-down versions of "Billie Jean" or "Nothing Compares 2 U"
This song has some complex time-signatures. I mean _really_ complex. I once had to sit down and really focus on counting the last part. And even the bridge before the slow part alternates between 7 and 9. But they just make them sound so groovy most of people wouldn't even notice.
I always thought the cage was a metaphor for him feeling like he’s trapped cause of depression. The cage is rusty cause he’s been suffering from the depression for so long. But he feels like he may be able to escape the cage at the current moment. I’d also recommend Seasons by Chris Cornell, it’s a ballad Lex. Great reaction guys 🙋🏻♀️👏🏼👍🏼🙌🏼💜🇨🇦
