He did take vocal coaching around 2009 and continued to work with a coach form that pomt onward to learn how to sing with a less damaging technique and to regian alot of the range He lost in the late 90s and early 2000s and it was quite successful.

    Chris Cornell is my favorite singer from this era & musical style - the flannel bands. I completely agree that emotion is a vital part of his music. Every song he sings comes from his soul and touches the listener in unexpected ways, from one song to the next. It's a rollercoaster & well worth the ride.

    And he was so young here - and was still amazing - years later - damn he was just stunningly superior. vocally He just taught himself and experimented and was given a gift, A great example of head voice and not falsetto which some people seem to be confused about - his range was stunning and yes - he was a baritone.

    This is a pretty unique song in their discography. Its very much almost a doom metal song. An association I would not have made if not for hearing a recent song from a spanish doom metal band called Horn of the Rhino (the song is called Sovereign) where the singer sounds at times almost exactly like Chris Cornell, especially on the high notes (around the 8:15 mark). But early Soundgarden was much more a metal sound than Soundgarden post-Badmotorfinger. In later songs like Fell on Black Days you hear that baritone that Beth is talking about very clearly in that warmth of tone. Chris really was a one of a kind talent.

    • @ThelSuperlKing
      @ThelSuperlKing 4 роки тому

      He was no doubt a great vocalist but his songs are not very good....you need iconic songs in the mainstream global popular culture to be considered the greatest which arguably doesn't exist. Freddie Mercury had Bohemian Rhapsody and We Are the Champions. Frank Sinatra had My Way. Steve Perry has Don't Stop Believin'. Michael Jackson had Billie Jean and Thriller. Robert Plant has Stairway to Heaven. Whitney Houston had I have Nothing and I Will Always Love You. These songs are embedded in the hearts and minds of people all over world cementing those singers' status to iconic levels. Even Chris' most famous and best songs are considered obscure to the world's mainstream general population. Even his bands like Audioslave and Soundgarden are not well known across the globe. An icon let alone anyone deserving the title "the greatest" must at least get some global stardom recognition or else it would be rather bizarre to be the greatest just among your own fans and extend that bias to everyone else around the world simply by default.

    I love Soundgarden (obviously), all of it. Although their sound and Chris' singing got perhaps more sophisticated, maybe easier to hear with the years (lots of perhaps and maybies because one shall not label The Mighty - ever!), early Soundgarden will always be the closest to my heart (or to my innards?) due exactly to that raw, gritty, heavy quality of the sound and the otherworldly singing Cornell delivered. Beth Roars, thank you.

    Honestly not my kind of music but i appreciate it takes skill to vocally not sound like you are dying when you sing. I love it when vocal coaches demonstrate how to get the sound ! 😁

    are you sure those high notes are not chest voice? Sure looks like they are and that would make him what I thought he was. A freak of nature. I have heard him describe how he found his range and he said he just kept pushing and his voice just kept going up.

    • @EMPANAO321
      @EMPANAO321 3 роки тому +2

      Those notes are mix, what facilitates (and is maybe why he give that response) his mixed voice, is the way he sings in his chest resonance, you can clearly hear some nasality in his chest voice, and maybe from that he found a way to "push" to higher notes

    She keeps pause it at the absolute worst times. I think were slightly diminishing the only person who could even attempt this vocal .the enormity of the power in this vocal. It's one of a kind.a generational talent you will never see again in your lifetime. I miss not being able to see you live and in person again. You are truly missed rip brother 🙏

    First off I’d like to start off by saying I have a little baby boy who was born on Chris Cornell’s birthday last July. My birthday is the ninth. So I’d like to think we didn’t lose them, I just got a guide him back in the right direction and he’ll get back at it again here in about 15 or 20 years. Just look a little bit different. Ha ha Ha.
    But to the main point of this comment…
    It’s so funny that you used the analogy about children learning to vocalize to explain Chris’s high vibrato, or just whenever he starts peeling the paint off the walls, whatever you’d like to call it. I’ve been a Soundgarden fan for almost 30 years I am 38 now and is soon as Superunknown dropped in 1994 I was absolutely dedicated for life, so I gobbled up every piece of information I could about them.
    Interestingly enough one Of the countless interviews I consumed as a homeless dropout adolescent in libraries and grocery store magazine racks pouring through issues of hair parader magazine, he just so happened to reply to a question about his aforementioned high register vocal parts, and I think maybe just half jokingly he replied it was mostly inspired by his mother screaming “CHRIIIIIIISS, HIIIDE THE POT PLAAAAANTS!!! THE COPS ARE HEEEERE!!!” Haha

    No mere 'reaction' here, folks!
    I love how you treated this [i learned a lot, btw! - thank you!] Most vocal coach reaction vids are...sorry to say basic ah.
