Hey Carl, I’m telling you this is my favorite route because of the beauty and it just feels like you’re driving through a much bigger mountain range. I love it.
That was fun and Beautiful too! Thanks Nikk for doing these videos and all the insider info. I spent a lot of time at my grandparent's cabin in Fawnskin when I was a kid. We always came up 18, but this seems so much easier. Thanks again.
Hey Linda, how are you? We took 18 all the time but it’s because my mom had a house in Lake arrowhead so we took 18 from San Bernardino. I never went up 330 until later on in life because I never had anything in Big Bear other than skiing so we would go up 18 to our house in Lake arrowhead and then drive from Lake arrowhead to go skiing. And then I really never went up Highway 38 and now that I’ve been living here I love Highway 38. It is for me the most beautiful route driving through a beautiful mountain range.
It is beautiful isn’t it dude but I think starting a little bit today and a lot more tomorrow that snowing. The trees is going to be coming down quickly.
Isn’t that awesome? I really really like seeing it like that. As a kid when we used to drive up the other way, I would get really sad as we’re driving and driving and driving and I’m not seeing any snow and then near the top. I’d start seeing snow, butshortly after that it was always a lot more snow so being able to see it from a very low level is really awesome and I know it’s gonna make a lot of the other kids driving up the mountain with their parents feel good
Stunning Nikk! In the 32 years that we had our cabin in Big Bear, I could probably count on one hand combined, the times we went up the hill on 18, 330/18, and through Lucerne Valley. HWY. 38 always…Scenic and beautiful! Would just about every time stop at Staffords fruit and vegetable stand in Mentone. Made my first purchase this morning of apparel at Big Bear Weather and more…the first of many!
Haha yessssss last chance. That’s awesome. I hope you love it. I really hope you love it. I am so proud that folks wanna help support the brand it makes me incredibly proud. And I don’t know the name of the fruit stand, but I think I know exactly which one you’re talking about I’ve been there before as well but thank you last chance I really appreciate your support dude I really do
@@SHEEPHORNsummer I didn’t realize how long that stand has been there. It’s pretty awesome and when we get storms like this, I bet that fruit stand does incredibly well at least I hope so.
After the real cold front passed through this area (maybe on Thursday) it dropped the temps about 5-10 degrees so that kept the snow from melting. Thank goodness for that.
Jeffe I was really glad about that as well. It kept all that beautiful snow in the trees, and it was just an amazing cruise through the mountains. Hope you’re having a good day my friend.

NEW QUESTION HAS RISEN!!! ok so i think we might go mid december, probably before christmas maybe somewhere between dec 10 to 20, would there be snow during that time?
Hey Eden. I wish I would’ve seen your comment earlier, my friend I apologize. I try to respond to everybody as fast as possible so I feel really bad about this. Yes, definitely there’s a good chance for snow between December 10 and December 20 just stay tuned for my videos. I record every event and I tell you guys when we are expecting snow and I would love to have you here, my friend. Take care Seren and have a great weekend.
@@Eden.K1m there is a really good chance yes and I think more often than not for the decade that I’ve lived here. I think we’ve had snow snow on Christmas Day so it’s been pretty amazing Christmases.
Hi! I wanted to ask since I don't go to Big Bear that often. But my friends and I were planning to go to Big Bear and rent an airbnb and all that and wanted to know if the snow comes in maybe mid december to early january. Maybe looks as pretty as this. Or more like... Latest is mid january, would there be like a decent amount of snow?
@@Eden.K1m hey Eden. My friend I have good news for you whenever we even get just a couple inches of snow. It transforms everything around here but if we get at least a half a foot of snow, it’s gonna look like the thumbnail you’re gonna be blown away. And other news is, we can even get snow this next month in October. It happens often, but the snow really starts to fly in November. I remember a few thanksgivings back we got about 3 feet of snow on Thanksgiving, but November is when it really starts to fly and late December through January is typically the snowiest time , especially in the 10 years that I’ve been here You’re getting closer to your journey don’t hesitate to ask me any questions. I’d like to make sure you have a great time when you’re here. PS. I don’t get notified when someone responds to my response to their original comment. My whole point is if you want to get back to me on this just leave me a brand new comment and I will know who you are.
A good question dude it looks like in my area about 2 feet of snow or close to it. Some parts of town got about 3 1/2 feet of snow the very upper portions but I think the average was about 18 inches to 2 feet of snow.
Yes, they definitely can and they do. I’ve been fortunate in the nine years. I’ve lived here that hours have not frozen or at least exploded, but they have been frozen when we got really cold I won’t be able to turn on my water which always worries me when it gets to that point. But we do the best we can keep the water running every now and again when it gets really cold just to try to avoid any freezing but it’s tough.
Hello. We are heading up to big bear next week Friday for snowboarding. Where is the best place for snow chains at the bottom of the hill? Or does the rental car come with chains? Excited to head up there!!! Thank you.
Hey haagendaz So that’s a really good question I don’t know if there’s necessarily a best place to get them but I would try to get them not right at the bottom of the mountain because they’re gonna charge a premium if you can get them maybe in Redlands or Mentone or one of those areas but not at the very bottom of the mountain When it comes to places to get them, I don’t End Of never heard of anyone. That’s better than the other. Usually a big auto supply store will be good. I wish I had a better answer for you with that one. And I’ve never heard of rental cars giving people tire chains and honestly I don’t think they allow it only because it’s a high risk situation for them but I’m not 100% sure of that either but I can almost be certain that they don’t have tire chains in the rentals Again, you kind of stumped me again But get back to me if you want me to go a little more deeper with it, but this is pretty much as much as I know I just hope you guys have a kick ass time on the slopes PS. Next Friday you’re almost guaranteed not gonna need tire chains to get up here it’s gonna be fine but then Saturday we get some more weather coming in.
@@bigbearweatherandmore6621 Thank you. That helps a lot. We are coming from Hawaii. Majority have never experienced snow so it will be an amazing experience. We are traveling with kids and have some drivers that have never driven on icy roads. Which route is the safest? Thank you again for answering my questions and can’t wait to experience big bear!
@@haagendaz8727 well, I hope you have a safe trip my friend I used to live in Hawaii also and one of the years I lived there we went up to the top. I can’t remember if if was Mauna Kea or Mauna Loa and there was snow. Some my friends who who were raised there would go up a bit to the snow when there was snow on top. Which island you come from? I miss living there
Fantastic drive up, Nikk. Just curious, do you have your phone clipped into a stand or are you holding it the entire drive? Thanks for all the snow videos. 😊😊😊
Hey my good buddy it’s a mixture of both unfortunately, my gimbal that I bought for the car don’t keep my really heavy cameras steady, which is kind of a bummer
AWD vehicles need to carry chains but don’t have to have them on. We just got back from being in BB for a few days - it is absolutely beautiful right now, don’t miss it !
That’s a really good question so as far as Caltrans is concerned, yes you do on this drive that I made. However, if you have all-wheel-drive or four-wheel-drive with snow tires, then you don’t need tire chains but if you don’t have the snow tires, you do need tire chains.
@@juancarloschavezamezcua6306 Yes R2 if you have snow tires with all-wheel-drive or four-wheel-drive, then no, you do not need tire chains but if you don’t have snow specific tires, they are going to make you put on tire chains
Hahaha. OK so when you say go left where are you talking about? Let me know because maybe next time I do this I can hit you up real quick and you can come out and just say what’s up that would be cool.
@@ElDrewski so left on 38 like I’m going back down to Redlands so Andrew I’m still a little bit confused so if I’m going down 38 I’m on 38 is there another part of 38 that makes a left-hand turn or are you talking about turning on Bryant or kind of at the bottom of the hill in the Mentone area or do I turn left on Orange? Let me know bro because I really would swing by and meet up with you just to say what’s up. I’ve always wanted to meet my brother Andrew. I’m sure when you respond I’m gonna feel like a total dumbass because I know I’m not the brightest guy out there, so I’m sure you’re explanation of where you’re at is articulable but for me things are difficult lol
It would make your videos more enjoyable if you left more space between the vehicle in front of you la 21:42 ❤❤g back so we don't have to look at them especially when you're behind the snow plows any other Large truck.
Well, I think for every 10 miles an hour it’s a Carling you’re supposed to keep between and I think at that point we were maybe going 20 miles an hour of course if conditions are worse, you stretch that out further Thanks for the advice I’ll take in consideration
OK my brother sorry for the late response. Let me ask you are you looking for places to hang out or hotels to stay at get back to me I’ll be checking more frequently I had to catch up on a little bit of sleep, so that’s why it took so long to get back to you, but if it’s hotels, I would suggest the Robinhood Resort the best western, sessions, retreat, and hotel And we do have an Airbnb really close to Bear Mountain affiliated with the channel and everybody loves it so you can always see if that’s available as well
For restaurants, I suggest Fire Rock in the village, the Himalayan, the crêpe café, The Hacienda and for a finer dining experience, PEPPERCORN grille. Mountain Munchies is pretty darn good as well and for pizza I prefer Village pizza but that is as subjective as it gets because I could talk to five other people right now and they would all have a different opinion of pizza places up here
Hey Nikki can u help or can anyone pls help me guide me as in maybe send me a address I can find my way from there I just want to get to that entrance of the highway I don’t want to go all the way up I just want to stop by there for a small amount of time I trying going but before I even go to see the snow there was cal trans checking for chains some pls help my first time going to see the snow and I live in California 😂
See if you can ask Siri or ask your phone to take you to lagonia Street and Bryant cross streets and that’s either considered Mentone or Yucaipa That’ll take you right there Or something very very simple is take the 10 freeway until you get to Orange Avenue in Redlands once you’re on Orange Avenue you’re gonna want to head the direction of the mountains I’m assuming you’re probably coming from the LA or RIVERSIDE area so if you’re coming from that side when you get off on Orange Avenue you’re gonna make a left-hand turn And then a right hand turn on Lagonia stay on this road and this road will turn into highway 38
I have a feeling maybe I didn’t make much sense so if you didn’t get it, please contact me again and I’ll try to figure out a different way to explain it

Not a bad drive! I will definitely be taking 38 on the way up.
Thank you!
Hey David, you won’t be disappointed it was really gorgeous. Just be safe and realize in the next couple days days the temperatures are going to get above freezing, and the snow is gonna start melting into the street and refreezing so just be extra cautious.
Many thanks for the vid Nikk, much love from Toledo. Dude, it looks like a snow fjord in some parts. Amazing scenery!!!
Nate thanks bro. I was just watching something on TV and it about Toledo. Berry cool Nate bro.
Thanks for being here with me brother Nate. I enjoying making these videos. Never knew anyone would like these videos. Just so cool.
Anyway I hope you weekend ends swell and I’ll chat with you later Nate Dogg
Beautiful!!! That’s is my route up to Big Bear ever time, I Love it.
Hey Carl, I’m telling you this is my favorite route because of the beauty and it just feels like you’re driving through a much bigger mountain range. I love it.
Yup, for sure!!!

Hi Nikk, that road is full of snow on the sides and Trees. Good drive.
another great video. thanks for the updates buddy.
I appreciate that. Thank you and you are so very welcome.
okok thank you so much! will ask for more questions if i have more!
@@Eden.K1m I will be here for you if you need me my friend you’re very welcome
Thank you Nick for doing the drive up the 38
You are very very welcome my friend.
I cant believe the snow is still hanging on the trees! ill be back up Monday or Tuesday!!
It is beautiful isn’t it dude but I think starting a little bit today and a lot more tomorrow that snowing. The trees is going to be coming down quickly.
Ya, Nikk, the snow line is really low on that road!
@ last chance, this is a great post! When our boys were little, this was our same route, and we stopped at the same fruit stand! 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼

Thanks Kazemi. It is such a joy, especially when I receive comments like this. Thank you very much. I hope you have a great rest your day.

Yeah, once this next storm comes in a week I’ll put some more live feeds up. It’s pretty interesting. Some people have been telling me that it’s been difficult for them to not have the live feed and they really want me to maybe have a live feed regularly with or without snow and that’s pretty cool to hear.
@@bigbearweatherandmore6621 Oh no! Yeah definitely steeeer cleaar of McDsss!! Stickkkk with the diet and get back on track my best bro!! I know you will. As for regular live feeds, it's a great idea! @@Omarrr146 well you know I love y’all, so it would be a good thing. I just gotta figure out how to do it because obviously I don’t want it 24 hours obviously during the storms I’m happy to do that but I know my wife is a bit of a private person and I get it I don’t blame her but she’s OK with doing the extra life seats which is pretty great but again I have to figure out how I can do it where my wife and I can sometimes sign out have to live still going. Maybe the whole mute thing will be a benefit and then when we want to hop in and say hello, we can do that. I’m probably gonna be doing that a lot, butthat’s pretty cool a lot of people really enjoyed it
Wow that's a lot of snow bro. This twist and turn road is a lot like the road from Bakersfield to lake Isabella. Except hardly any snow if any at all. 😁
I’m telling you it was just so beautiful. I was concerned before I got there that there was gonna be way too much snow in the roads were gonna be horrible but it was the complete opposite on the roads. it was really nice to see it like this to give a lot of people that mental peace of mind
Defo better than google street view!
Hahaha. You absolutely rock for saying that thank you.
No chains required brother ❓🤔😮 Those visuals are gorgeous.
No chains are required. I went through a checkpoint on this drive at Angeles Oaks. I don’t know if they are still required. I would think maybe they still are but I’m wondering how much longer they’re going to enforce it

Hi I love your videos! Do you take people up to Big Bear mountain from Highland? Big Bear Chamber of commerce should hire you as the town ambassador and pay you to give people guided tours up and down the mountain. 😊
Hey Wilson. That would be a really cool thing to do. I’ve actually thought of starting some sort of a service to drive people up the mountain who are too afraid to, but I just haven’t gotten to that point, but I thank you for your kind words that really feels good. It shows me that I’m doing a good job representing this town.
OOh so give or take if my friends and I go maybe late december we would see good snow?
@@Eden.K1m there is a really good chance yes and I think more often than not for the decade that I’ve lived here. I think we’ve had snow snow on Christmas Day so it’s been pretty amazing Christmases.
What time did you start your drive up? The wife and i did it about 3 weeks ago. It was nice, went to the village.
👍
Thank you John, my brother
I remember a few thanksgivings back we got about 3 feet of snow on Thanksgiving, but November is when it really starts to fly and late December through January is typically the snowiest time , especially in the 10 years that I’ve been here
You’re getting closer to your journey don’t hesitate to ask me any questions. I’d like to make sure you have a great time when you’re here.
PS. I don’t get notified when someone responds to my response to their original comment. My whole point is if you want to get back to me on this just leave me a brand new comment and I will know who you are.
Do you avoid the ski resorts going this route.
This is what I'm talking about !!!!
Coo * K * A * Doodle * Do
Hahahah
After the first part of the storm melted the snow, how much snow did we we end up getting?
A good question dude it looks like in my area about 2 feet of snow or close to it. Some parts of town got about 3 1/2 feet of snow the very upper portions but I think the average was about 18 inches to 2 feet of snow.
I have ANOTHER question lol uh do your like water pipes freeze up there or no? Cuz like that would be such a pain
Thank you.
Hey haagendaz
So that’s a really good question I don’t know if there’s necessarily a best place to get them but I would try to get them not right at the bottom of the mountain because they’re gonna charge a premium if you can get them maybe in Redlands or Mentone or one of those areas but not at the very bottom of the mountain
When it comes to places to get them, I don’t End Of never heard of anyone. That’s better than the other. Usually a big auto supply store will be good. I wish I had a better answer for you with that one.
And I’ve never heard of rental cars giving people tire chains and honestly I don’t think they allow it only because it’s a high risk situation for them but I’m not 100% sure of that either but I can almost be certain that they don’t have tire chains in the rentals
Again, you kind of stumped me again But get back to me if you want me to go a little more deeper with it, but this is pretty much as much as I know
I just hope you guys have a kick ass time on the slopes
PS.
@@haagendaz8727 well, I hope you have a safe trip my friend I used to live in Hawaii also and one of the years I lived there we went up to the top.
Is necesary to have chains on the tires?
Yes, according to Caltrans I went through a chain checkpoint on this drive once I entered the town called Angeles Oaks
Only down side is less snow.
Sup wizz agreed
Did you need chains even if you have awd?
I had the same question... It suppose that the control said R2 and it allow to go up if you have AWD or 4WD car.
AWD vehicles need to carry chains but don’t have to have them on. We just got back from being in BB for a few days - it is absolutely beautiful right now, don’t miss it !
R1, R2, and R3 will truly determine what you need to do.
That’s a really good question so as far as Caltrans is concerned, yes you do on this drive that I made. However, if you have all-wheel-drive or four-wheel-drive with snow tires, then you don’t need tire chains but if you don’t have the snow tires, you do need tire chains.
@@juancarloschavezamezcua6306
Yes R2 if you have snow tires with all-wheel-drive or four-wheel-drive, then no, you do not need tire chains but if you don’t have snow specific tires, they are going to make you put on tire chains
Distant second 🤣☺🤣😂

Again, by me again. 😆 🤣 go left next time.

Good place to go to at big bear not familiar with the location ?Btw No kids .Just 4 Adults .
See if you can ask Siri or ask your phone to take you to lagonia Street and Bryant cross streets and that’s either considered Mentone or Yucaipa
That’ll take you right there
Or something very very simple is take the 10 freeway until you get to Orange Avenue in Redlands once you’re on Orange Avenue you’re gonna want to head the direction of the mountains I’m assuming you’re probably coming from the LA or RIVERSIDE area so if you’re coming from that side when you get off on Orange Avenue you’re gonna make a left-hand turn And then a right hand turn on Lagonia stay on this road and this road will turn into highway 38
I have a feeling maybe I didn’t make much sense so if you didn’t get it, please contact me again and I’ll try to figure out a different way to explain it
