On the Go Mini Meals

- In this video, Jon Faulkner shares some mini-meals that you can add to your EDC or BOB to help get some much-needed carbs, protein and calories if you're out hiking in the bush.
Most preppers add freeze-dried meals to their kits and survival bags, but eating these requires building a fire, boiling water etc.
In some situations what might be a better option is something that gives you a quick energy boost - a quick snack that you can grab and eat when you're on-the-go.

Spoken like a true backpacker. I have been doing the same for years - if you want to cover miles you gotta get and keep moving. I normally carry a small jar of PB or I scarf all the ones I can get at the continental breakfast when in town. I tried the powdered PB and didn't care for it. Im going to give the trail butter a shot. Its gucci but I can afford it. Thanks for sharing !
something you can add, little
Packages of salt, pepper, sugar, coffee creamer, mustard and ketchup, to help with flavors.
He said that.
Excellent! Thank you!!!
Thanks Jon.. I'm glad you gave us some idea of stuff the mini meal . It is very helpful
Amazing
Charlton Heston took peanut butter on location film shoots. You can't beat nuts. No refrigeration required, and lots of flavors too.
Some nuts have important minerals that you can't get artificially. Brazil nuts hare a good source of Selenium, which is needed to brain health, and Hazel buts are a good source of Zinc..
@@toml.8210 I agree. I make my own trail mix with tart cherries, hazelnuts, blueberries, pistachios, cashews & pecans - no added sugar needed.
I try to have snacks through out the day and then a "real meal" for the night. Ive got to rework my kit. But youve mentioned some good products ill be looking into.
Great information! I usually carry a few pouches tuna packed I olive oil for quick protein! Last a long time!
Try some turkey bites,
Found them at wall Mart, really good. also check the Dollar tree
For beef sticks, small bags of jerky.
Great video
Very good info. always looking for better food ideas for the get home bag. Keep up the good work.
I like the Bumblebee tuna packets (similar packing to the Starkist you show) that sell for about a dollar at Walmart, and have a tiny spoon included. Several flavors include Spicy Thai Chili, Lemon & Pepper, and Chipotle.
Bumblebee also has the 'Snack On The Run', which comes in a small (5"x2.75"x2.5") box containing a small can of meat with peel-off cover, a foil pack of 6 crackers and an even tinier spoon to spread the chicken salad, ham salad, chicken chipotle salad or buffalo-style chicken salad. The packaging can be burned as tinder/fuel.
I also like the small, squeezable apple sauce packets which come in several flavors, as a walking snack. All these typically have a one-year shelf life, which always has a built-in safety margin, and can be extended by refrigeration before opening.
Looks a lot better than what I keep in the car in case of emergency, granola bars, Awake chocolate, beef jerky, I'll check out Greenbelly meals to go, I need things that I don't have to worry about freezing in the Midwest this time of year.
#7eleven has a grilled chicken breast protein snack, in the deli section. Also candy bars, chocolate donettes, protein energy bars, etc. Hit the #Spam section. Hillshire farms snack trays (small plates) are good . Pocketable, on the go. Thank you for the great suggestions.
What are the shelf lives on these products?
I have worked out of my vehicle for 35+ years. Started off with sandwiches ect... I have gone to Spam, Tuna Creations, Chicken salad, ritz crackers, Peanut Butter & Honey, Peanut butter crackers, Cliff Bars. Canned Beenie Weinies, Vienna Sausage, Campbels soups. (you get it) I could live out of my vehicle preps for a week or more. (lots of water)
@@SurvivalDispatch You guys rock and you've got a great mix of contributors. Just sharing a tid bit of life experience with you. Army Vet, Retired LEO / Municipal Disaster Planner, now self employed.
I add millennium bars for their long storage plus some of these foods to be eaten during hikes, hunts, etc.
I cook a frozen burger or burrito on my engine while I drive!
Nice. I have never heard of some of the brands you describe, however I am not a hiker, just want food for the GHB. What about canned sardines? Super inexpensive, and an excellent source of nutrition. 2 cans do not weigh very much.
I guess Im asking the wrong place but does someone know of a tool to log back into an Instagram account..?
I somehow forgot my password. I appreciate any assistance you can offer me!
@Terry Christian Instablaster =)
@Payton Ernest i really appreciate your reply. I got to the site thru google and Im trying it out atm.
Takes quite some time so I will get back to you later with my results.
@Payton Ernest it did the trick and I now got access to my account again. I am so happy!
Thanks so much, you saved my ass !
@Terry Christian You are welcome :)
I would like to have a snack bag for my car, one that I can leave in there. Any ideas of snacks that can stand the California summers?
mn Cabrera whole nuts. They will turn rancid in direct sunlight but so with all packaged foods too.
It might be a bit heavier to carry, but a package of tortillas, some OvaEasy eggs, and a few of the Epic uncured bacon + pork bars might make a tasty meal, even for dinner..
Would you suggest any of these for a car kit? If not, what would you suggest? I am working on a 3-5 day car kit and can't find many food recommendations.
"Not being fussy" is your friend!!!!
"Meal Food" ....I'm using that from now on
Is this a Patreon re-cast? When you talked about the BoBo you said "We're getting into the Holiday Season".
Glad I'm not the only one that caught that.....talking about "ginger bread"
I'm looking for food for my edc-truck bag.. but my biggest concern is cold in the winter and heat in the summer if I don't cycle through it within let's say 4-6 months.. suggestions aside from freeze dried foods?
Spam, they made it for the military so it is a stable food. So is dried salami really its a gamble to find something that will last that isn't freeze dried. I live in the South so I feel your pain in needing food that can survive the heat of the summer and cold of the winter.
Millennium bars or life boat rations, they’re good for 3yrs plus.
@@jjdogbutte yeah I have one of the life boat bars now just wasn't sure if there was anything out there that was slightly more... edible lol. The lifeboat bars do the trick but they won't be eaten unless I'm starving.
MRE, it’s not a meal, it’s not ready to eat, can’t eat it😝. These foods are what I give my grandkids in the car. Waffle House, you need carbs try Hhash browns all the way. Has to be 3000 calories? LOL
