The Ed Sullivan Show was a television variety program that aired on CBS from 1948-1971. For 23 years it aired every Sunday night and played host to the world's greatest talents. The Ed Sullivan Show is well known for bringing rock n' roll music to the forefront of American culture through acts like Elvis Presley, The Beatles, and The Rolling Stones. The entertainers each week ranged from comedians like Joan Rivers and Rodney Dangerfield, to Broadway stars Julie Andrews and Richard Burton, to pop singers such as Bobby Darin and Petula Clark. It also frequently featured stars of Motown such as The Supremes, The Temptations, Stevie Wonder and The Jackson 5. The Ed Sullivan Show was one of the only places on American television where such a wide variety of popular culture was showcased and its legacy lives on to this day.

Thank you SO much for uploading this! "Long Lonely Nights" has always been one of my favorite songs, both in the original hit by Lee Andrews and the Hearts in 1957 and this remake by Bobby Vinton in 1965. Throughout his career, Bobby would sing some of the most beautiful songs of the past and revive them in new versions, making them hits all over again (others include "Blue Velvet", "My Heart Belongs to Only You", "Tell Me Why", "There I Said it Again", "Take Good Care of my Baby", "Halfway to Paradise" and so many more). He had a knack for picking some of my favorite songs. Because of this and his wonderful voice, Bobby is one of my favorite singers. "Long, Lonely Nights" never fails to move me, in either the Lee Andrews or Bobby Vinton's versions. I also like Clyde McPhatter's version which competed with Lee's in 1957. I become less of a fan of pop music in general after the British Invasion, but Bobby helped keep my style of music alive. Thank you Bobby and thank you again Ed Sullivan channel for posting this fantastic video!

This black and white telecast along with this gooey song make it seem more like 1955 rather than 1965 however 7 months later on Oct 31, 1965 the Ed Sullivan show began to broadcast in color.

Gooey? Your opinion and you're entitled. Black and white was still around for quite awhile after 1965.

Most of Bobby Vinton's songs were a bit on the wimpy side. However those songs, enhanced by his "cute" looks helped make him a pretty big star for many decades.

Just heard the Lee Andrews version. That and the Vinton version are very similar, so to call one of them "abysmal" doesn't make sense.
