The luxury navy flake is actually not a rum casing, but a bergamot casing. If you got some sitting around just pop the cap or bag and take a big whiff, just like earl grey tea. So good it makes me wanna eat those flakes.
Good comparison! I would also recommend all 3, but my favorite by far is the Luxury Navy Flake. Bullseye Flake is second. I find the Twist flake less enjoyable, but still a good smoke...although mine had a definite vanilla taste to it that was kind of off-putting to me at first...reminds me of Stanwell's Melange.
+hauntedtank75 I agree. Ironically, Twist Flake is my least favorite smoke of the 3 but has arguably the best "jar aroma" of any blend in my small cellar.
+Blendrecommender Of the three my least favorite ( fresh out of the tin ) is the twist as well. The LNF has a similar flavor profile to Orlik Golden Sliced, but the citrus notes in LNF are sweet where as the ones in OGS are "tart". Dunhill Flake is also fairly similar IMHO. I would like to get some more Twist at some point and age it for like a year and give it another chance.
+hauntedtank75 +Lazy Lightning Thanks for the advice guys! I've got a tin of Dunhill Flake open right now and agree that it is similar in flavor to LNF but not quite as sweet. For me it also lets me smoke with less attention. LNF bit me at first. I had to learn the hard way to SLOW it down. I'm looking forward to OGS based on the comparisons. I've only been smoking a pipe for a year or so, so I've only had new stuff. Have you guys aged anything and at what point would you say you can tell a difference?
Blendrecommender I haven't aged much any more than a year. I think the most would be 2 years, and if anything, I'd say those blends are a bit mellower. Not much experience with aging, though...
+Big Mike Luxury Navy Flake. Fully rub it out, let it dry for a little while before packing your pipe. Rub out a tiny amount very fine and sprinkle that on top of the packed bowl. Give it a good char light and then let it burn out and sit for 30 minutes or so. Then enjoy. I recommend that to folks at our shop all the time. Hope you like it!!!
I've had 2 of 3. Bullseye, and the Navy Flake. And personally, I found both equally ok at first. Then became very boring. Both comparable to very stale bran flake cereal. No sweetness (LNF), no brightness, no depth. Just very cheap and bland. And I gave both several chances. I judged too soon with the navy flake and bought the 1.5lb box which was a huge mistake. Still have over a 1lb hidden away out of sight, out of mind. Peter Stokkebye buys the left over crap that many better tobacco manufacturers don't want which explains the cheap price. Cheap tobacco, cheap flavor! Not even near the same realm as Mac Baren or Scandinavian Tobacco Group!

Age doesn't hurt any of the 3, but twist flake needs 5+ years in a cellar to turn into candy.
To me luxury twist flake tastes a lot like Orlik Golden Sliced. Love it! And I just love Bullseye. Probably the mildest va per I’ve tried
I get rum and a bit of molasses in the LNF. It's also sharper than the latter two...the Bullseye is my favorite .

Lazy Lightning That's what I'm doing with my Twist Flake...aging it. Which basically means, "not smoking it for a while." :)

Of the three, which would you recommend for someone new to va pers?

Luxury bullseye flakes...yep.

Boring.
We're you expecting nudity?
@@jungleno. Not enough car chase scenes for this dude apparently
Ron Pelbert - Don’t be so hard on yourself - I’m sure you have your moments.
Most useless, nonsensical, arbitrary comment everrrrrrrrrrrrr.
Totally agree! Very boring! A little extra $ will get you something 5 times better.
