If Icom are targeting the FT5, I think the ID-50 needs a price point of £350 or less.
I don't see it happening, just my opinion.
I have an FT5, and the IC-705, both great radios. I find Fusion much simpler than D-Star.

I agree. Unless they set £330 give or take £10 there is no way they are going to unseat Yaesu's FT5 with that radio.

My guess it will be barely under $500 US. With the 52 on sale at some dealers here for $599 US, the 50 is would not be a good deal at that price point. The bi-directional USB-C is great, even if it has to be tethered to an Android device. Personally, the 51 screen was a major issue for me. If it’s a lot better than the 51, I might get one. I love D-Star and the common menus between the 50 and 52, it’s a lot easier to negotiate than the Yaesu (IMO).

I put a deposit down on this radio. The U.S. dealer asked me for $35 USD. I assume that they are ball parking the deposit at about 10% of the price. So, somewhere between $350-400 USD. Sadly, where I live, in Reno, Nevada, D-Star is currently offline. We have a repeater, but the trustee has passed away, and our local club (the repeater is on one of our club tower sites) cannot get the SK ham's family to release the repeater to us.

I suspect a little more on the retail price for NA, but not going to be far out. I hope you manage to sort the repeater out with the SK’s family. 73 DE K6JSX

Available for preorder at WIMO in the EU for 500 Euro so 430 Gbp, not a bad guess. I am taking my test around that time so might treat myself for one. Cheers!

I agree with Simon, the ID50 looks like it's packed with options I'm thinking that it'll retail for around £350 but that's just speculation until it's release date and will sell really well.

Hi Peter, the ID-51 was discontinued a few years ago to make way for the ID-52. The ID-50 can been seen as Icom bringing back the ID-51 in all but name! 73!

The ID 31, you can get secondhand for £100. It’s UHF only like this one. Obviously There is more stuff on the 50, but how much is the new one worth?

I got 3 D-STAR radios: ID-5100A, IC-705 and ID-52. I struggle with the audio on my IC-705, but the ID-5100A and 52A sound great. If Icom is trying to have a radio to compete with the FT5D, it needs to be around $450 or less here in the states.
If Icom released it a long time, I probably would have got it instead of the ID-52. $650 for an HT is expensive and a bit mind boggling. Great radio and i bet the ID-50 will work just as good as the ID-52.

That’s interesting, my 705 sounded great to me, I got outstanding TX audio reports too. I do think the 52 is excellent (and may be better than the 705), very punchy at 5 mic gain for analog. I use the echo test on D Star and set mine at 4 for that mode.

@@M0JSX with the amount of people now working sota pota iota and the outdoors in general you can’t tell me there isn’t a client base ready to sell to. Just look at the number of operators using the 705,817/8,kx3,tx500,even the Chinese portables and larger radios such as the 891,857,897 all put into service outdoors but then you need batteries charging solutions etc,so why not make a purpose built radio.
It’s not as if there is no money in the hobby every manufacturer has flagship models costing upwards of £5k + is it too much to ask to make a 705 waterproof with an 12 - 18Ah battery ? Or for yaesu to give us the new 897 even Kenwood has given us the new th.d75 another HT there are more desk radios than you can shake a stick at, as for mobile units there seems to be a new one every month.

Is part of the fun of those activations designing your kit bag/box to be right for your operations? I suspect that if a manufacturer did release a radio perfect for you, there would be lots more complaining it didn’t have xyz.

@@M0JSX then maybe they should ask, as for the past 40 years all I’ve done is find solutions to mirror military radios but I do have the majority of those radios listed as you well know being you sold several to me including the 8 series of Yaesu radios in the past 15 years

    • @M0JSX

@@Stealthmodeactivated-h8w if you are just mirroring military radios, why not use military radios?
My point still stands though, even if a radio was perfect for you, it wouldn’t be perfect for all and if a manufacturer can get to a lowest common denominator status where it has a lot of why a lot of people want then they have a viable product.
