This is the best interview I’ve seen with Tony Shalhoub. Thank you so much ! He is an extraordinary actor, whichever rôle he plays and his range, is so impressive. I liked that you said that even when he is sometimes still and silent temporarily, he can not only keep our attention but also keep us thinking and feeling what’s going on. His comedic skills are great too. Then there’s his timing - impeccable. He embodies, versatility and is able to bring many ‘ layers’ to every character. There are some film rôles which some actors won Oscars for that Tony Shalhoub could have easily, played. He might not have wanted to …but having watched films and plays for many years and probably too many Shakesperean plays, I really appreciate his work - not as a fanatic but just as someone who is thrilled, to be drawn into stories and to experience the suspension of disbelief, when audiences are temporarily not observers but are in a sense, participants. We can all learn a lot, from thinking and feeling how other people think and feel. It can facilitate a sense of unity.
His family’s story is both moving and inspiring. What courageous people, to rebuild their lives even though they had to leave their beloved country, Lebanon. Another example of striving for unity and the courage to aim for that.
If I could say one thing to him, it would be “ Thank you”, for the hard work, skills, integrity, humour and more, that we’ve all been lucky enough to enjoy when we see his work. If we compare characters he’s played in ‘ Wings’, ‘ Stark Raving Mad’, ‘Galaxy Quest’, ‘ Monk’, ‘ The Marvellous Mrs Maisel’, ‘ Big Night’, ‘ The Band’s Visit’ and many more, it seems impossible, that they were played by the same actor. What an achievement, that they were. Am very much looking forward to the Monk 90 minute film and the other work due for release. Thank you again, for the interview. 🙂❤️

I'm so glad to hear there is going to be a new Monk movie. A few months ago I was watching reruns of Monk, and I realized as I was watching it that much of what Tony portrays as Monk are more autistic traits than OCD traits. I'm just a few years younger than Tony and I was diagnosed with autism and ADHD 4 years ago. I was originally diagnosed with OCD but ended up being a misdiagnosis. However, people with autism can also have OCD like characteristics as well. If you talk to Tony again, tell him he does a great job with the Monk character. I can relate to many things that Monk does, except for all the germ fears. I could also make a long list of things I do that the Monk character does, including obsessing over stuff. Can't wait for the movie!

Thank you David for your comment. Many people relate to Monk to varying degrees. I am glad it is bringing awareness to OCD/Autism. Like Tony said in my webinar, the intention was to bring awareness to those who suffer from OCD and honor them and their families.

I love how they emphasized the universality of story themes, and of music. I saw the film “The Band’s Visit,” and it’s absolutely beautiful, a vision of peace between Egyptians and Israelis. Everyone should see it. “Big Night” is also a favorite.
