There's another reason mine occasionally doesn't start. I can reset the position of the gear shift and it will start. Mine is really touchy about being in the perfect neutral spot. Friend who has a newer one said he had to replace the in-line fuse on the dump bed. I'm a 75-year-old grandma. I wish mine had an hour meter, or an odometer. I have used that for so many things around the farm. Great video. I really depend on my Gator!
That was a really cool video. Thank you for the insight on the relays. Now I know which one is the starter relay. The information in this video helped me eliminate the ignition switch as a possibility in my case of trouble.
Nice video, I have a similar gator, didn't realize that was the starter relay, thanks. Do you happen to know the model number on that gator, ours has the plate missing. Also do you happen to have a starter wiring diagram if you can please share?
Hi Joe, I hope to get you a video this week that addresses both of the issues. I, too, was missing the data plate, but I found my serial number somewhere else. I need to locate a document that helps decipher the year as well.
I think my relay is good but one of the wires got disconnected somehow is there anywhere I can it’s a red wire and I can’t see to figure out how to depin the starter relay
So, I figured out the entire time that I had a poor connection to the battery. It was not actually the relays, it was the connection that i fixed near the end of the videos.
I don’t believe that would be a relay issue. The relay is used to remotely switch a high amperage load (like the starter or the dump bed motor). I don’t think the fuel pump is switched by a relay, but now that I think about it, it might be. I’ll see if i can track down an electric schematic if you don’t get one first.
Thank you for this info session.....I am scouring YT for these Gator related vids so I can keep my 1996 6x4 in the best condition possible. By the way. Pressure washers are great tool for these machines because they can get pretty messy under the box. My machine still looks new under there. It gets a regular bath. Any chance you have a vid covering brake issues?
You’re right. I need to wash the old girl. I don’t have anything on the brakes. Doesn’t the gator use some kind of engine braking? I think i found the factory service manual online for pretty cheap.
@@budgetprojectsbydavid5263 Yes I have been considering that manual since I have discovered the braking mechanism is part of the transmission. Not looking forward to that fix.
I don’t even get a click. It cuts out and then won’t do anything. No headlights or parking brake light. I’ve chased every wire I can find. Power at fuse box nothing at switch.

Nice job. Good tips for common issues
Thank you

Corrosion and age is what I see Ive seen this same problem on sonoma and chevy s10 pickups on the starter relays over the years.
When the dump wouldn't initially go down, what did you do to make it work? There was an edit in the filming and I missed it.

What are the other electrical components next to the starter relay?
Without looking it it, I think there’s a regulator/rectifier and maybe a fuel pump over there. I can try to take s better inventory when i get home.
Yep, the thing with cooling fins is tge rectifier / regulator, and the other flatter box is the igniter. The fuel pump is a foot forward.
Mine just developed an issue. Turns over, no spark, no power to fuel pump. Is this that relay? Thank you in advance

I'm at loss then! It cranks fine but no spark, nor power to coil. Also no power to fuel pump. Other electronics work fine. Dump, lights ect.
Question. What year is your gator I kinda wonder because my gator has the same engine
I think mine is a 2001. I’ll check my paperwork and if different, I’ll report back.

I am not getting any power. To the switch or dash
Mine doesn’t have a starter relay.

Have you tested the switch itself? What do you mean “it cuts out and the won’t do anything”?
Have you checked your negative connections to frame?
😊
Dialectic grease CO$T$ more than those relays
I am not getting any power. To the switch or dash
Good battery?
