Moto Morini X-Cape 650 Review

- The Moto Morini X-Cape was one of the bikes I looked forward to seeing arrive in New Zealand this year. With my grubby mitts on one fresh from the distributor, I spent a couple of weeks getting to know the LAMS adventure tourer.
Is it good value? Yes! Are there any issues? Not many. Once you get over the fact that it is "made in China" you can really appreciate it for what it is, excellent value adventure touring for those without the big budget to get a fancy European bike.

A good-looking bike. Not very often seen in my country. :) Slovenia. Cheers. Keep it up.
This is a versys in architecture, the engine and frame is the very very close. The basic design is 11 years old now (first cfmoto 650 was build in 2011)
How come the chinese brands are always so good looking? Like the CF Moto GT this Moto Morini ist just hot!
Thats not chinese actually ! And designed by Italians too
i almost got one, but, i really want cruise control for my next bike.
im in the tron, we should hook up for a ride sometime!
The CFMOTO 800MT has cruise - though no switchable ABS.
Regarding a ride, sounds good mate 😎
Nice review. Have been looking at these as well, I think toughest part for convincing me to buy one would be resale here in NZ, I imagine I would take a huge bath on resale after a year or two when I get my full license and move onto a full powered bike compared to many of the other bigger name brands. Shame I cant get past that sticky point as I really do like the looks of them.
Too true! Resale will be interesting and is one area I think the Suzuki V-Strom is still a safer bet.
I’ve been fully licensed for 10 years now and found it had enough power to keep me entertained so you mightn’t need to jump up the ladder to a bigger bike quite so quickly.
@@OnThrottle would you feel confident taking a bike like this on the Rainbow / Molesworth ride you did the videos on last year?
@@thorns000001 I would if it had a skid plate and crash bars just for good measure as that shale rock is nasty in places. It does have a vulnerable oil filter like I say in the review and has a lot of plastic bodywork. Otherwise I’d be pretty comfortable taking it through.
I don't think it'll be that bad, as cfmoto are now very reliable (they build this). I could be wrong though
If it's anything like the other 650 based bikes then the rider modes will do absolutely nothing haha
Great looking bike excellent review, can you check out the new benelli trk 700 when it's available cheers new subbie
Thanks mate will do my best.
Any idea of expected fuel consumption and if you had to choose between the V-Strom and the X-Cape Which would you prefer?
Sorry, I didn’t record my consumption but it was far from thirsty. I’ve not ridden the latest V-Strom 650 so it’s hard to say definitively but I think I’d lean towards the Suzuki for the (currently) better aftermarket and ability to get it with more power.
Nice review. Can this bike be de restricted to get full power?
Not as far as I know. Could possibly fettle it a bit but that’s for minds much smarter than mine to figure out.
I found the power deliver to be quite adequate for the market this bike is targeted at.
@@OnThrottle thanks for the reply.
What is the service interval for the X-Cape? Also, what happens to the Traction Control in Off Road Mode?
Hiya, X-Cape oil change is every 6,000km after the first 1,000km oil change. Valve clearance is at 42,000km. From memory it only has ABS which can only be switched off while in that off road mode. No TC.
@@OnThrottle 6000km is too short an interval for a touring machine, isn’t it?
@@prameethprabhu I wouldn’t say so. At least not in the New Zealand setting. Realistically the majority of riders won’t be regularly doing big kms in one hit.
@@prameethprabhu For Europe is short. You are right. :)
What app to use for the phone connectivity?
I paired my phone but my phone says I need an app, but doesn't say what app
From memory I just connected via Bluetooth on my phone. No app needed.
They may have updated the bikes firmware since I rode the X-Cape. I’ll talk to the local importer here in NZ and come back to you.
completely made in china by scooter company Zhongneng! Is this good or bad...?
Now that's a completely different philosophical question. I think it has obvious pros and cons. Pros - it's affordable, offers good value for money and has some decent tech in it. The Cons, it's made of cheaper materials and therefore pretty heavy, the plastics "feel" cheap and its ability to hold its value is yet to be determined.
Is this thing reliable for long term use?
I’ve heard good things. None have been brought in for warranty work in NZ according to the distributor and the engine is quite solid. Time will tell I guess.
how to turn off the abs?
It is only available in Off-Road mode and is switched off through the dash interface.
@@OnThrottle thanks, i will try it now
