On the stone, it is mentioned as Shembaga nadar fell into the cave and his body was found at a depth of 500ft. So probably If he has fell in the same pit (as Subash of Manjummal Boys, fell), it may be less than 150 ft. Otherwise, he night have fallen from a cliff or a different part of the cave where you will have sufficient light and air passage down at the area where he landed .100 to 120 ft is the maximum depth we can go without oxygen support in a closed pit (having opening only at the top). So if 500ft is correct, we can assume that it happened at some other part of the same cave.

Name’s origin
The name Manjummel is believed to have stemmed from the term ‘Manjumala’, which means snowy mountain. “Before people began inhabiting the area, it was all hills and forests here. During winter, one could see mist covering the hilltops. Thus the term Manjumala. Over time, the name evolved to the current Manjummel,” says P Prakash, writer and history enthusiast who’s also the president of Changampuzha Cultural Centre.

Its not something only related to Tamilnadu police. Police men are also humans. They do some of the toughest job in many places. There are people all types of mentality in the force. Generally the power hierarchy in the force make the constables (or Lower ranked members) often oppressed, and thus their behaviour also gets rude. It is same in Kerala police or karnataka police or for thar matter, any other police force in india, or across the world. It doesn't mean all the Policemen are rude or bad. So no need to consider it as a Black mark to TN Police only.
Better not to generalize it based on certain incidents
