I remember seeing Santa Claus: The Movie in the theater as an 7 year old. Still my favorite Christmas movie of all time. Nostalgia is a hell of a drug!
I've absolutely loved Santa Clause: The Movie ever since i saw it as a kid in theaters back in 1985. I have the 25th Anniversary Edition DVD and i watch it every Christmas. I love the acting, colorful set and costume designs, vibrant cinematography and utterly beautiful score by Henry Mancini. It's such an enchanting and truly magical film that i never tire of watching. It's really a shame that John Lithgow hates it so much because i think it's one of his absolute best films and performances. It's similar to how Robin Williams hated Popeye, another one of my all-time favorite childhood movies.
I loved Santa Claus the Movie, I was 6 at the time when it came out and I watch it every year without fail! and of course Judy Cornwell is in it as well and she is a great actress and has an infectious smile
Santa Claus The Movie is on every Christmas over here in UK it's one of the most loved and cherished Christmas films of all time everyone loves it it's so magical especially for children I've watched it every year since I was about 4
As someone who grew up with the 1985 film in the UK, I still think John is still the most entertaining aspect of the whole project. His 'For Free' scene still has me in stitches. I was so surprised by his words about the making of the film here as I thought it looked like he had a great time. The Salkinds (and Spengler) had a very bad rep after what they did to Richard Donner whilst making the first two Superman movies together. I love John's voice and laugh but since 2001 all I now hear is Lord Farquaad. 😋
This and the original Rudolph are my fav Christmas movies, to this day, puce is my favorite color, and when people ask what color that is, I quote the movie. It's like Fushia, but a shade less lavender and a bit more pink
“People of Duloc, I give you our champion! Congratulations, ogre. You’ve won the honor of embarking on a noble quest!” “I’m already on a quest! To get my swamp back!” “Your swamp?” “Yeah! My swamp! Where you dumped those fairytale creatures!” “Alright, ogre. You go on this quest and I’ll give you your swamp back.” “And the squatters?” “All down to the last slime-covered toadstool.”
Sometimes, you are your own harshest critic. Apparently, Jimmy Stewart was not terribly happy with "It's a Wonderful Life", and it did not do well. But when the copyright expired the studio saw no need to try to protect it, and networks could run it without any large cost - and a whole new audience saw it and loved it - including me. Sometimes, you hit a home run and you don't even know it. That happened with my wife - first date - out dancing and I requested a favorite old love song that I sing well "Chances Are", as we danced, I sang it to her. I was kicking myself all niht thinking I had made a fool of myself. At our wedding, after the toasts, and after I thanked everyone for coming, she took the mic, and told the story of when she fell in love with me, and that was the story. I was sure that I had ruined any chance I had with her, and it turned out, it was a home run.
REGGIE, I am always so disappointed when no one asks about or even talks about Buckaroo Bonsai. That is the movie that made me start following John Lithgow! I am so impressed you asked him about it. It was the most awesome movie and he needs to be recognized for it. Thank you, thank you, thank you. And please tell Steve the piano man that he is HOT!
MY esteem for James Corden shot WAY, WAY up when I viewed this clip. Yesterday (1 December) was National AIDS Day. James had a pin on his lapel. I know that James is married and straight...but he is ALSO a Human Being!!!
John Lithgow is such a lovely and joyable actor/comedian/writer, he has done such incredible work over the years and have put a smile on everybody's face. Love your latest book this year, some incredible and spitting images of political figures in there. Love it👍🙂👍.
It’s a shame that James Corden is publicly known to not be a very nice guy. He is excellent at interviewing and if you believe what you see, he’s great. John Lithgow is such a pleasant gentleman.
"Mad Hungarians, three generation of movie trash, movie making" lol, only Lithgow can word it to kill. Any wonder Trump despise him. This man is vicious. He should have a permanent spot on SNL.
Sad to hear him say this cause it has been a lot of ppls fav Christmas movie and it’s also the only Christmas movie that covers every time period and. It is loved by millons

Santa Claus the Movie is my favorite Christmas movie. Has great music too
Im an 80s kid in the US, and Ive always loved this movie.
We loved that Santa Claus movie!!
When he’s reading the poem, reminded me of Winston Churchill when he’s giving the speech over the radio after the king died in the crown
Kris C I have both his books a worthy investment and his illustrations are fantastic!

An ad for The Santa Claus Movie appears in the upper right corner of my screen!!
He made The last Pitch Perfect good again
John is an excellent writer. Needs to be poet laureate.
What a great actor who's underestimate! He was excellent in Dexter!
That season was peak Dexter.
Best season of Dexter.
Yes, loved his Dexter role!
He commanded the screen as Arthur Mitchell/the Trinity Killer. From the very first frame. Makes my heart beat faster every time.
