- The Paddle Wheeler American Queen passing Two Branch Marina. Wind was messing with me a bit with wind at 15 gusting to 22. Video shot with the Phantom 4 Pro using a Polar Pro ND4-PL filter.
I'm taking my 8th graders through a section on Simple Machines, and describing the wheel and axle led me to seek examples. I found a pic of the Delta Queen first.l I saw the name and looked it up and found the vid, which then led me to this one. ( SO glad I use YT for supplemental materials. )
I always greatly enjoyed Mark Twain's books as I was growing up, practically memorized large chunks of some of them just from sheer repetition of reading, and especially the sections dealing with his (and his characters') travels on these types of boats. Seeing this classic beauty really made my day! Amazing job on the filming, as well! Thanks for taking the time to produce and share this.

Just got a notice that American Queen Steamboat Co. stopped operations. Sad, but earlier I checked on cost for 2 in cheapest cabin, 7 days, over $16,000.00. Duh! Give me back the DELTA QUEEN!

A lot of early ocean liners were paddle steamers. But I doubt ones constructed as riverboats have enough provisions or fuel to go across an ocean.

I don't think riverboats are required to have lifeboats, but they do have lifejackets and probably life rafts.
