Always a good laugh watching the new lads starting of with the hod. Most usually get it eventually. The real laugh comes when the wobbly legs start up the ladder 😂😂
sign of a good teacher as well, knowing that they'll get shown the right way eventually if they give it a go themselves and won't just be mocked until they figure it out themselves
Bless! We’ve all got to learn. Much easier now. I first carried the hod when just 16 years. Worked through the ‘76 summer, bare chested…got roasted! The pug slopping out the hod would leave white blob-marks, around which the sunburn showed. I would have big boils on my right shoulder - real juicy ones! In those days, we used pole ladders…now, that was hard work on the gable lift (fork lifts were rare then). Flettons, stocks, etc…just hated the footings when bumping out the heavier Staffies and concrete blocks!
Youngsters of today, don’t know they’re born, no forklifts or scaffold platforms to put 0:25 brick pallets on, all bricks and mortar had to be run up rickety wooden ladders, 2nd, 3rd, 4th through to 6 and 7 lifts on 5 storey flats, all by hod and buckets.
My preference too so you don't have to carry the hod around too in addition to bucket, broom shovel etc. Brick clamps are quicker these days too as long as you are the only hod or other hods have to use them too...
I have a permanent lower back injury because the wnakers I worked for never showed me properly. I hope you teach this guy good proper form for lifting.
I am 51 and the hod was the weapon of choice when we where young I know it’s funny watching young lads struggle but this was where it all started for us old boys I had a pallet with a few blocks underneath just to give me some extra height It’s definitely a dying trade the hod blame the bloody forklift 🤣
They got bants , can laugh at them selves , they’re winners bro , bit of training they’ll be up for it , can get couple years out of them before they think billy big bollocks and move on for better money
Gutted you didnt give it the shoulder flick off the shoulder pal 😂 Im only 40 and miss my days on the hod like youd not believe. Back, knees and ankles are happier though!!

LOL, oh dear. You guys have it easy these days with the bricks being lifted up a level. Never had it that easy in the 70's, but then again a bag of cement weighed twice as much then.
Spent my formative years on a plasterers hod . Didn’t realise the long pole was to make it easier so I cut it down! Bleeding hard days but definitely let’s you know who is worth teaching and who isn’t
Crook of the arm under the back of the hod hand on the side other hand on the handle smooth lift cut the handle down another 4 inches need a proper hoddy ....
Jeez, how that reminds me of when I was 15 in 1965. I worked for my uncle in Oxford. Six months in your game was enough for me! Stoke the mixer hod the muck and bricks, set out the spot boards, up the wooden ladders and sliding dowm them in those days, after 6 months I could mix it with the best, but the winter really killed it for me. I sometimes wonder what happened to Super-Hod?

mugs game, these kids don't know what they are getting into.... bodies will be broken working for these volume bricklayers.... is it worth it? NO, because while you're earning, bricklayers are making 6 or 7 times more money... bricklayers moan about main contractors ripping them off.... but you are doing the same to these kids.... paying them 7 or 8 times less than what you make..... and it works the same with main contractors/developers they are making 6 or 7 times more off the backs of bricklayers and all other trades......
every youngster struggles with a hod on the first few attempts. we was all there at one point
never seen Amy on hod, has she had any training C?
In the old traditional days you'd have one on each shoulder and one on top aswel or sumut like that I bet....Good ole day's me andsom 😂

39 years on the hod. Your legend sir I salute you. That’s what you call service. 😊

A mate of mine , 5'4 carried the hod for 8 brickie. Mixed the mud and kept up with them all day every day

Get 36 in a mortar hod and run that up the ladder 😳🤣

Yes blame the hoddy for that as well aye ,it's still a hard job m8

Good job Ollie! Keep going lad!
It helps a lot if you load the hod the correct way so that the bricks don't pinch your fingers, and you should know that Charlie 😇😇
I was 15 befor I could lift it properly and that was with proper imperial bricks 😂
Bless his little cotton socks
You don’t have tongs over there?😂 they get the same amount of brick and way easier.😂 I love your videos man
Still got a bit left Charlie 😂😂😂😂
Thats only a baby hod compared to plasterers' hod
I first picked hod up in 1977, I’m still carrying hod now
Atleast this one turned up
At least both of the lads tried well done to you both
id suggest that stick is a tad short for anyone

Give him some southwaters to lift 🤠
Back in the day you had two planks to give you the bounce to get up the ladder 🪜, very hard work, but kept you fit, technique was everything 👍😉
Funny seeing how weak we was at the start the stories we could tell
its a skill carrying the monkey , but not one i would advise
