    Tai Streets...one of the most unappreciated Michigan Wolverines. What a game

      Absolutely agreed. This game, the 1998 Rose Bowl...Streets was remarkably tough for such a slender guy, and his concentration and hands, as illustrated here, and his clutch ability to make big plays gave Michigan a huge advantage in some tough spots.

    This game goes to show that you don't have to have a lot of players, who went on to star in the NFL, to have a memorable game. Other than Charles Woodson, this wasn't a Michigan team that was packed with a bunch of future NFL stars. A game of memorable moments. A crazy Michigan football game.

      This Michigan team was a year away from the national title. It had a lot of future pros (including Brady) but it was young.

    If you look carefully, you can see the seeds of that perfect '97 season being planted in this game. The mental toughness to win on the road, the defense's ability to hold a lead in the final minutes...all right there. Who knew what would happen the following year?

      Woodson going from excellent to legendary and the arrival of Anthony Thomas added a bit of magic, I think. You're right that this team didn't have any glaring weaknesses.

    1. I miss Jackson so much.
    2. Watching these old games, every other play would be reviewed in today's game. Just a constant thought of
    "Oh, that's a review"
    "Ehhh...we'll see in review"
    Etc. Just every other play and in an odd way it kind of hurt the game. Yes, we want those important calls to be right but there is something missing when every damn play is looked at for 5 minutes or more. Momentum is lost by players and the flow just stops in it's tracks.
    It's a 50/50 thing I guess.
    3. How many very gold players once went to Michigan or had their time end prematurely. Bowens would have been nice to have around a bit longer.

    David Bowens was ridiculously athletic. Too bad we as fans didn't get to see him finish his career in A2.

    he was right about fumbling on 4th down don't matter u have to give it up anyway since they didn't make the first down. It was probably a dumber coaching move by not calling a TO and punting

      I'm going to guess this post (advocating for a punt in that situation) was made PRIOR to October 2015. :-)

      I don't know. In the Michigan Replay episode, Lloyd said he took full blame for the blunder but then he quickly changes the subject.

      I've always thought this was the worst coaching decision in a career of many for old Lloyd. How overlooked this decision is is just unreal - people ignored it because Michigan won. I see WH posted this on MGoBlog with the main point being "WTF Carr" and almost none of the responders even want to address that. The level of denial people have about the kind of coach (and ex-coach) Carr really was is just incredible to me.

      Why wouldn't you just line up in punt formation and have your kicker run it out the end zone? That's going to take more than 5 seconds, and you'd have won 20-15. Man, what a mental lapse.

    • @boknowsbaseball
      @boknowsbaseball 10 років тому

      A Gaytheist Or just have him rugby punt it out of bounds. Jackson said Dreisbach fumbled the ball, which - maybe? It doesn't excuse whatever they had in mind, though. Absolutely moronic to put your quarterback out there under center in that situation. Carr sucked.

    • @WolverineHistorian
      @WolverineHistorian  10 років тому

      A Gaytheist Not even that would be necessary. Keith Jackson said there was just a slight difference between the play clock and the game clock. Like 1-2 seconds. That would mean Dreisbach hiked the ball about 5 seconds too early. He should have waited, taken a step or two backwards and just fallen on the ball or run out of bounds. Amazingly, neither Jackson or Griese noticed how we screwed this clock issue up.

    Was at this game, couldn't believe it came down to a hail mary. Michigan players stomped on the Buffalo logo at the end, which was a bit classless, but an exciting game.

    This Michigan team should of been a rose bowl team. , the issue was Brian griese getting suspended for bad behavior , his replacement despite a few glaring flashes Scott dreisbach was a very average QB. If griese plays the whole season Michigan is a rose bowl team and beats Arizona state that year - this team had sick talent and like a few others mentioned the seeds of a championship team was being sown that year. One of my favorite teams growing was this team but that inconsistent QB play of dreisbach hurt us bad . The penn state and Purdue losses were hideous , Michigan controlled the northwestern game to but still lost a heartbreaker

    • @edmerc92
      @edmerc92 Рік тому

      Driesbach was the starter and Griese the backup. Griese wasn't suspended for the season, he was just beaten out.

    UM fan, but once again an example of clock mismanagement! Absolutely ridiculous that you even give Colorado a chance here, especially what happened two years prior. For whatever reason it’s generational cause no way in hell MSU should have had a prayer in 2015 either if you run that last possession correctly
    Why are you kneeling the ball in the first place?

  • @boknowsbaseball
    @boknowsbaseball 10 років тому +2

    Griese at 13:32: "Doesn't make any difference, you have to give it up anyway." I'm just astounded at how a paid pro can say something so dumb.

    Defense was awesome. Offense was putrid. Probably the lowest level of QB talent that we have had in my lifetime outside of the one awful Threet/Sheridan year.
