A favorite moment for me with this game in the T-55 back before they fixed M113s and BRDMs shooting at tanks. I was lining up a shot on a 113 spamming me with 50 cal, when my turret blew off. The guy managed to thread a round through the opening for the gun sight, and set off a round in the turret bustle.
I tested the 50 cal against the stationary WP armor just a few weeks ago. If you can get a bullet inside the turret, it will bounce around, hopefully killing crew or even exploding warheads. You can get through the gun sight aperture and also the driver's visor of the t55s. The T72s were invulnerable through the driver's periscope, but I still killed them through the gun sight aperture. The BMPs were killed with a few side shots aimed about half way between center and front and a bit low. BRDMs can be penetrated from all sides. However, these shots were all short range. The M60 is also easy to kill from behind, using any heavy machinegun. In a real war, using the M113 to kill tanks would of course be suicide, but several 50 cal firing from protected positions against few tanks attacking just might work.
Meanwhile, the USA crews be like: "GUNNER, HEAT-- TAAANK!!!" "LEFT! LEFT! LEFT!" "IDENTIFIED!!!" "OH GOD, HE'S LOOKING AT US!!!" "KILL THAT FÛCKER!!!" "ON THE WAY!!!" "TAAARGEET!!!" I just played Crossroads Screen and I had already won the mission, there were 2 BMPs behind us, trying to retreat back to their lines. They didn't even fire, and my commander never called em out
Cool gameplay. I think the Warsaw's Pact's idea to counter better optics and range of the NATO tank was to move fast in a column, and affter moving into NATO's effective fire distance form a battle line and charge without stopping giving NATO tanks only 1-2 shots before the fighting starts at point-blank range where NATO's superior optics and guns were no longer an advantage. Wonder if that would work in this game.
In real life there wasn't such advantage. By the time M60A3 existed, there are plenty of T-55 and T-62 with laser range finders/apfsds/addon armor, for example. Around the time of T-55 and T-62, NATO did not have anywhere near effective enough 105mm AP rounds(in-game M833 was from 1983, by which time even T-62 would be considered outdated), so the optical coincidence rangefinder was necessary just to be able to land a hit with HEAT at extended ranges, as APDS was generally bad(chances are not good past 1km or even 500m depending on model, irrelevant past 2km) against front of T-55/62 at that time. Basically, it's an american bias game from people who got owned too hard in warthunder.

I disagree. Depends entirely on engagement type, likely threats, point in the war etc. In combat you might not see Resupply for 24hr plus, so taking a full load out is common. There's a false idea given by video games that tankers try to limit a cook-off, when in reality getting hit regardless of type of hit is going to knock you out and at least force the crew to bail.
It was a pyrrhic victory at best. The east German forces that did survive will be too few in numbers to defend against a potential counterattack, resulting in a lot of bodies reduced to ground meat, for tiny, easy to reverse gains.
