All those books! I had a lot of books cluttering my bedroom once and couldn't let them go. But I finally did. My daughter said to me, "Mom, there is a building where you can go and read these same books again. It's called the library." And that simple statement made such sense to me. I cleared out my books.

Not too sure about this. My local libraries have become primarily places for people to use computers. There are fewer and fewer books there and many are new bestsellers I have no interest in. I used to go regularly and carry home bags of books. Last time I went, about 6 months ago, to do some browsing, and couldn't find anything I really wanted to borrow. I don't know that libraries are the places for readers they once were.

And I fostered a child, well he was almost adult, but in very difficult situation and my flat looked like a wearhouse, but that is not the point. You feel bare naked without the stuff, it´s weird connection with it and than there´s the thing called clutter blindness, it´s a real thing. You don´t really see it. People from outside do. My daughter helps me a lot, she comes and say, you are a pig, but I do not see that. She says it´s a mess here, and I tell her, there are no adults here (I have an asperger syndrome) she says there are and I say there are no mentally healthy adults here and she agrees and starts to clean up. She is a golden girl. Saying you boys have fun, sending me and her son outside and cleaning up, so I do not see what she is letting go. But I am nothing like this man. I take my trash out and all. Yes, as a behavioral psychologist I can confirm there is no cure. Therapy can help them understand it better, help them learn to fight the urges and help them work through any traumas that activated it. Some people are better at fighting it than others but as the narrator said, over 80% relapse within the first year alone, many more will fall back into it after that first year or with a new traumatic event. Its sad but its true, and I know a lot of people don't want to acknowledge this fact but that mindset is actually damaging because if loved ones of people who have this condition believe they can be cured with a little help, they will be continually disappointed and get angrier and angrier with the person every time they fall short. Accepting there is no cure will help people to have more patience and empathy for them which is what they need.
Now this applies to people with actual compulsive hoarding disorders (like this man), people who love just shopping to much, grew up in clutter so they don't know any better, or are simply to lazy to clean can possibly stop it with enough motivation.

I'd have a garage sale every weekend: books at 25 cents each first weekend, then donate what was left to hospitals. I donate a lot of books to hospitals. Next weekend, clothes for $1.00 each item. Donate what was left to GoodWill. I'd have to rent about 50 racks. Then, all kitchen stuff for 10 cents to 50 cents per item, and so forth. Antique stores take a lot of kitchen stuff that is moderate to good condition.

His just taking half of his hoard to his friends house 🤦‍♀️. I couldn’t cope with it, mentally it would destroy me and I’d have to kick him out.
Its strange. My mother, my sister and myself have OCD especially with cleaning, yet my sisters children went the other way and pretty much became hoarders, hence why I’m here watching this stuff I really want to understand it. In a strange away OCD and hoarding are similar yet so different

It's not unusual for children respond to a mental illness by going the other extreme. It's like an overcorrection from trauma.

When the cleaner says it's the worst he had ever seen, the house should have been declared uninhabitable and the property condemned.

one thing is friendship, but having filled
Simon's home, is totally disgraceful. But
Simon, is to blame. Paul is one truly
selfish individual. So okay your selling
your home 🏡 for your retirement, and
the money 💰 supposedly will be used
to travel?. I don't think so. Paul will just
go out and buy more junk, and if Simon,
put his down, his home will look just like
Paul's if not worst. I have no sympathy for
Paul. SIMON, wake up please !
