Hi Gary! I teach physics for a living. Due to the pandemic, all that teaching has been online. As much as all my students are quite bright, some are being held back simply because of relatively weak computer skills. For these students, I have started to share your videos and I want you to know how much it has helped them. Happy Holidays and continue the great work!!!
Hi Gary. Another one I think should be on this list is "Show Desktop". It's the quick solution to the frustrating situation with lots of apps/windows open when you need to reach for something on the desktop.
Thank you for saying "control click" not "right click". So many Mac people still us Windows terminology. Also, I didn't know that you could bring up the context menu with a two-finger click. Thanks.
as an old mac user it is a little harder to break old habits, so many cool features in our macs, some i wish i learned long ago, and then i could have learned thru the changes and OS's for a smoother transition, school teacher comment was the coolest i think, these videos i can see helping them lots. i am creating another you tube folder for saved videos to break down my learning into smaller segments and categories.

I am a brand new Mac OS user…I finally made the jump after all of these years. This was extremely helpful. Looking forward to some of your other videos to learn these cool little shortcuts and tricks.
Help, Gary, I have been using two Macs for 7 years and I am still learning all sorts of useful stuff from your videos. THanks a lot for this, never underestimate what we dont know about how a Mac works!!
Straight to the point advice and demonstrations means this Channel will greatly assist me in enjoying my desktop and what I want to achieve with it as tool for productivity, enjoyment and fulfilment. As a long time Win user I came here to get the necessary knowledge to boost my new Mac skills; which includes moving away from right-clicking and F3 shift keystrokes.

The first one is basically what most Windows users would call a right click. I guess some new users might not know about this. I've used Macs for a long time and I knew about mission control but didn't really know how to use it or what it was for. Thanks for the tip and I definitely will be using this in the future.
Thanks. This was helpful. I have a huge fear of clicking too much. years ago before Apple, I deleted a very important document, so I am very fearful of tool much clicking. Is there always a "savior" to mistakes?
Thanks. Just amateur. Those are two nice shots that can be glimpsed in this video. One from a recent local backpacking trip, and the other was from my visit to Hawaii last year.
Hi Gary I was wondering if you could point me to a way to transfer files from my pc windows 7 to my new mac air m1. I am new to the mac os running Big Sur. Thanks be safe

I'm confused : doesn't do anything watching your video except pause/play....Mission Control & multiple desktops I knew about via trackpad(3 fingers), but I guess I need some practice to get these all to work, or perhaps they don't work all the time?? depending on what app Im in? why are multiple desktops important? if memory use isn't an issue, is it not OK to have everything we're working on all on the same desktop?

Is there any way to quickly go thru this document by a short cut by hitting only "like the right arrow ( doesn't work)" to quickly scan the document ? Thanks Mike

As Gary shared, you could consider them as different monitors. I use them to declutter my immediate window. Rather than closing or hiding apps, I can just switch desktops and all is like I left it. At work, I also set up different desktops for functional reasons: email on one, word processing or spreadsheet on another, code work on a third. My brain appreciates knowing the specific focus rather than having it all clustered in one desktop.
When you have a bunch of apps open, control/tab goes through the icons left to right. If, after going partway to the right, you want to go back to the left again, click control/tilde (immediately above the tab key). I call it the tilde key, but I guess technically it is the reverse apostrophe key or whatever that tiny little thing my eyes can't see and I never use is. :-)
@@macmost My bad. I meant command/tilde will go backwards. At least it does on my machine. Shift+tab does nothing to change windows on my M1 mini. What am I doing wrong? It does move the cursor from link to link on a web page in Safari, or move the cursor highlight around in a Finder window. But it doesn't go through open windows.
@@bobh9526 Yes, Command+Tab forward, Command+Shift+Tab backward, also Command+Tab followed by Command+` backward, as long as you don't lift up on the Command key.
I don't use the app switcher out of spite because that was a feature brought over from Windows the same way cmd-c, cmd-v, cmd-x, cmd-z, cmd-b, cmd-i and cmd-a went to Windows from Mac.
