Sam Darnold should stay in Minnesota. He has seen crappy organizations and knows how it is with poor coaching, weapons, and franchises. He appreciates it more than most people would because of that. He should take a slight discounted price to stay in Minnesota. He’s only 27, so the Vikings can have him for 10 great years. Plus, injuries happen all the time. Keep him and let McCarthy grow and develop
If Sam's willing to take a "hometown" discount and do a 2yr 60mil deal with an out after 2025 so essentially another one year deal all 30mil guaranteed, I believe Kwesi pulls that deal in a heartbeat. Let our future franchise QB JJ be the backup and learn for another year on the bench.
Franchise tag him for a year. Start JJ and see how it goes. JJ isn't getting it done, put Darnold in for the future. If JJ balls out, trade Darnold for draft picks that we don't have this year for the next one to make up for it. First and foremost, trust in KOC no matter what the outcome will be. He is the man at this position and far knows more than we do. KOC is real
I don't think Kwesi would go past 30mil guaranteed per year for a QB given JJ is presumably ready to start next season. Kwesi has too many holes in the interior o-line, DT, CB, Safety, to fill. Granted we do have about 80mil in projected cap space in '25. There's 8ish starters on D right now with only 1 year deals. It'll be a fun off-season to watch that's for sure.
Remember Randall Cunningham? He revitalized his career with the weapons that were provided to him…one year flash in the pan. Vikings need to stick to the plan and go with JJ next year at QB. Invest in the o-line and db’s.
Franchise tag Darnold. Take a year to figure it all out, instead of hasty decisions on a dime. I am with you on letting Sam walk and I would prefer a big ol DT to push the pocket into the QB. Imagine what Flores could do with that scenario. Save our pocketbook and not let another Cousins scenario happen again where we lose all our defense cause the QB took the money.
@@TimAllen-fs2rg that’s about what he’s going to make. People have to realize the numbers that the quarterbacks are making are absurd and they’re only going to go up. If it all it was was 41 million you take that and you run with it because guys like Tua and Trevor Lawrence are making damn near $60 million a year. And they ain’t playing like Sam’s playing.
Richard, thanks for your support for the Vikings. For the other comments from your partner, "Let's hope it is not a shootout against the Lions in the last game". What a silly comment, the Lions only won by two points in Minnesota. The slanted bias for the Lions is sickening. The Vikings deserve to win every game they can, and rooting against them to "trip up in the next few games" so they have no chance to beat the favored Lions is silly. Let the best players be the best players. Period.
I’m a Vikings fan. I’m pretty sure he’s saying he doesn’t want a shootout because he’s respecting the Vikings ability to win any game. He said he hopes it’s a meaningless game so the lions don’t have to risk playing hard against the Vikings. It was a show of respect.
I would say keep Darnold BUT they did just pick up Dan for dirt cheap. That's a good enough safety blanket for them to see if JJ is the guy knowing they can just put in Dan if things go poorly. Plus tagging and trading Darnold could really push their already super solid roster into elite territory.
Vikings Fan here: JJ McCarthy will be the starter week 1 of 2025. His injury was not an ACL, it was a meniscus injury. Sam will go somewhere and get $40+ mill a year, it will not be in Minnesota.
Nah, he will give mn a discount for believing in him. Probably 2yr 60, upgrade the team, and take less. He won't have this success with a qb needy team... no way.
Still, he hasn't played a down in the NFL, and it will be well over a year of not playing a meaningful game. Ask yourself, would you draft a QB in the 1st round next year and start him on SB ready roster, or would you pay the guy who got you 13-14 wins and a couple of well-played playoff games?
It’s not an acl injury. It’s a meniscus tear. Lots of people play through it with a short fix. He was never going to play this year. The Vikes drafted him to sit a year anyway. The Vikes picked Darnold to start from the very beginning. Try to get your information correct.
If i was a QB or any player for that matter i'd stay away from both New York teams currently. They are clearly dumpster fires with bad decision makers at the top.
This plan with JJ is set, and it is a financial one. This only works if we have the capital to pay for surrounding talent, and a rookie QB contract is what will make that happen. Sam is doing great, but he will get his payday elsewhere
Sam will never get another opportunity as good as this one to get paid, so people thinking he's going to give the Vikings a discount to stay are not being realistic. I think there's a chance the Vikings franchise tag him, but they aren't going to compete with a 4 or 5 year contract that other teams are likely to offer him.
Put yourself in Darnolds shoes for a minute. Who knows how this season ends but as of right now if im Darnold my top options for next season would be to stay the Vikings starter next season or either get tag and traded or sign with the LA Rams. Best two options for him ro continue to grow and ball out. Obviously given the fact Stafford retires. Which i believe is a high probability.
People clown Falcons for paying Kirk Cousins and then drafting Penix, but then say pay Darnold when they just drafted McCarthy. Make it make sense. McCarthy would be QB1 in this draft class and it’s time to see what he can do
Has JJ been in the building and on the sidelines this season learning anything? I don't think so. Give Sam a two year contract for about 25 million a year, guaranteeing him playing next year while JJ learns the ropes and then let them battle for the spot year two. Upside for Sam is our coach and the best wide receiver tandem in the league and don't forget about Hock. Rebuilding your career and making money. Then getting another two to four year contract making about 25 million a year (that's 100 million). Vikings upside is the coach and getting JJ trained n ready while having a gunslinger. Remember how many years Love sat? And he sat behind someone who didn't want to mentor. For all intense purposes Sam's career was done, but now look at him. Sometimes I feel you shouldn't break a good thing for the sole purpose of maybe more money. But imagine him having another good year after this and teams knowing he's a team player. Training up another draft pick while making another 50+ million? Not too shabby! Now he can go to another system next year and make himself 35 million a year and shit the bed as he's done for his career up until the Vikings. Sam has options, no doubt after this year. But the Vikings aren't going to overpay him with the franchise QB waiting in the wings. But in there somewhere is some even ground for both sides to benefit while at the same time getting JJ ready to take over. Jefferson, Addison, Naylor n Hock are going to still be strong for a while. And as a viking fan let's be real. I'm waiting for when they break my heart again this season
Where in the hell are people getting this “JJ Mcarthy tore his ACL”…. He didn’t! He had meniscus surgery which isn’t anywhere close to as bad as an ACL! JJ will be just fine and he was hand picked by O’Connell. Darnold is having a fantastic year and he will be getting paid this offseason, just not by the Vikings
The Vikings should not pay Darnold long term, they should franchise tag him and let him and McCarthy battle for the job next season. If Darnold wins the job let him play and if not we trade him and get some value back. Also if no one picks up Daniel Jones on our practice squad we have a veteran on a minimum contract for 2 years. We can franchise tag Darnold twice so no rush to pay him and get us locked in financially
Two year offer to Sam Darnold 70 million.Still gives Sam plenty of time to sign another huge contract with the Vikings or another team.Still have JJ on the cheap for another 3 years with a one year option.
Sam Darnold is a better Quarterback than JJ McCarthy. If Vikes play McCarthy, they will regret that decision. Darnold was on fire and is still playing pretty good.
There are only about 15 teams that Sam could go to. Those teams need to run the same or similar schemes. Many do not need a QB. (Rams, 49ers, Cinn) That will lower his asking price. Many of those left do not have the support system that Sam has here. It will be an interesting off season.
Darnold needs Kevin more than the Vikings need him. Darnold seems happy, his career has been resurrected. Darnold should want to take a team friendly deal to stay. Who’s to say Kevin can’t to this with McCarthy, or Daniel jones?
@StraightCashHomie23 he's not gonna settle for wide receiver 2 money.. so if you sign Sam Darnold to a big contract and say Addison wants to get paid in his 4th year or he'll sit out.. they'll have to trade him.. cause you can't pay 2 wide receivers 30 million a year and pay a qb 50.. look at the bengals.. they franchise tagged Tee Higgins this year, but that was a bandaid fix.. they're not gonna be able to keep him and Chase next year.
The Vikings were smart-if Sam goes down at 11-2, Danny Dimes can come in with this team and he can display his shit and Disney can still have a happy ending.
Falcons may need to take a page out of the Bronco's book with Russ Wilson last year. Take the hit and move on to your young QB with high upside and roll with it. Gives Kirk a chance to get a fresh slate elsewhere as well.
This is like the 3rd or 4th person I have heard say that JJ tore his ACL. His season was ended before it started (which is what an ACL would have done too) so it isn’t a huge deal, but it’s annoying nonetheless. Do research before speaking. It’s kinda your job now.
Go Vikings. Pay Sam Darnold. He won't be leaving Minnesota, teams are starving for a winning QB, especially an efficient one. Lets hope Marshon Lattimore's return against the New Orlean Saint's is a spoiler as well. Go Washington Commanders.
This Vikings fan believes in McCarthy and tag and trade Darnold to the Rams why Stafford is getting to that point and it has Mcvay KOC old team perfect fit
Word to Richard: JJ McCarthy did not have an ACL injury, he had a torn miniscus. Still season ending, but not as bad as an ACL.
Sam Darnold should stay in Minnesota. He has seen crappy organizations and knows how it is with poor coaching, weapons, and franchises. He appreciates it more than most people would because of that.

He should be but he’s not.
Give him 2 yrs JJ can sit and watch

I’d resign Darnold for a 2 year contract for 70m
If also trade Daniel jones for a late draft pick or 2
Franchise tag him for a year. Start JJ and see how it goes. JJ isn't getting it done, put Darnold in for the future.
