- Sorry, this isn't a DIY video but it's pretty self explanatory

I have a name brand mount but the accessories for it seem a bit too expensive so being that I like to work with PVC I made my own "DAM MOUNTS" and in this video are my beginning accessories. total cost was less than $20
NOTE: PVC and WOOD are smooth so I suggest roughing up where they contact each other for a sure grip.
I just noticed that the knobs are called "WOODPECKERS"
Great ideas. Thanks for sharing.
Here's a shortcut for counter sinking that Phillips head screw. Before drilling the hole for that screw all the way through the cutting board first drill with a paddle bit / spade bit which makes a flat bottom / recessed hole (unless you drill the paddle bit all the way through.) When that paddle bit hole is deep enough that the screw won't extend past the bottom, then drill the diameter hole that's good for the screw. The paddle bit already marked the center position for the screw hole. If you're concerned the cutting board might give way add a washer to strengthen the cutting board.
Again, thanks for the great ideas.
I kind of just threw these together.
I'm usually more meticulous about my builds.
I would have used forstner bits over pale bits. And used a drill press.
Thanks for your input!
When you slammed the pvc pipe on the ball I was laughing and wondering why you had to do that....then you said "you don't have to hit it like that...I just did it because I am stupid....I was dying! Great idea man!!!
These homemade ball mounts shouldn't be used for rod holders, mostly good for small gopro/action cameras
Wish I had thought of that! Luckily I haven't bought a ram ball for my kayak yet but it was next on my list. Thank you for posting.
Spray paint it black and no one will know we cheaped out!
thanks for the views and comments!!
I like this idea! I'm fixing to embark on a nice long road trip and have been looking at mounting solutions for my 8" tablet. This just might fit the bill. Hell, you could probably sell a ton of these tbh. I know I'd buy some!
Might not be strong enough for a tablet but good luck!
I wish we were best friends.
Such a rad video. Holy crap I love your brain. The cost per mount is probably like... 20% of a ram mount... in the long run and more frugal or with buying bulk even less probably eeeasily... THANK YOU.
Needs a little work to make the hold stronger. But that's a simple fix im sure
I'm always trying to find ways of recreating things that are way over priced for personal use.
Check out my gear track videos
You just wrecked the surface of your table dude with the bolt head lol I hope your wife is understanding lol
Your video was very enjoyable to watch; and, very informative. Thanks!
Great ideas! Thanks
They didn't work all that great for heavy stuff.
I have been looking for a cheaper alternative to Ram balls. Your Idea is excellent. Thank You
Michael donaldson it needs a little work to hold better maybe rough up the ball and inside the ball housing
Hey, really good idea. Thanks for posting,
They didn't hold as well as I expected but I was putting heavy components on them
The carriage bolt is actually the better bolt for what you're doing. What you need to do is counter sink the bolt, making sure to drill about 1/16th size smaller than what you need, THEN heat up the carriage bolt & tighten it up. The heat will spread out the hole while also conforming around the square part of the bolt. You're done...
Thanks for the advice, it will help future viewers!
great idea
Good idea man
I must say very good job I love DIY thanks!
Very nice, you're a creative man. Thanks
Very nice 👍
Bro thx for the idea
Awesome!!!! I like it!!!
Countersink the middle bolt too.
countersunk middle won't keep it from twisting when the arm is tight on the ball.
Do you think this would hold a 1’ x 2’ pice of pexyglass. Im a boom truck operator and sometimes i have to stand for hours at the crane controls under the sun. I want to tint the pice of pexyglass and use it to block the sun from my face. I could also use a pice of plywood but it might be on the way sometimes to see other people.
If you are using it for work I would buy an actual RAM MOUNT
This is just me goofing around because I know how to build/duplicate things.
Why not use conduit clamps and just mount a PVC tube to hold an umbrella over you.
Becuase im cheap and i also like to build my own things. I told my boss about it but he wont buy it for me. And the umbrella thing. Mmm no i dont want everyone laughing at me. But thanks for the suggestion.
Did you try gluing some rubber on the ball to help hold it from moving?
No but let me know If it works
Good video except for slamming the project down on the table. Not very pleasant when wearing earphones.
Sorry bout that
I am wondering if a golf ball might be better than wood...
good idea
Only if its about the same size or a little larger than the PVC pipe
What size pvc did you use? 1.5 like the ball? Or did you go smaller? Thanks
josh b I think it was 1 1/4" I'll check to be sure.
It didn't hold very strong though
Yea that's my problem I have the Ram balls made one like you using 1 inch on 1 inch balls and it slowly falls going to give it a try using 3/4 tube and see if I can add some surface area to the ball clamp
Nice👌👌👌
Have you try a rubber ball instead of a wood ball?
Bill Flint nah I gave up on that project
What are the balls sold as bud?
they are wood Knobs I bought at hobby lobby in the wood section near where they have wooden lettering and stuff
+phartattack cheers :-)
