      I am purchasing Pipette first. But Kinship has me tempted. I just wish Kinship and Biossance came in a higher spf.

    • @CrueltyFreeGracefully
      @CrueltyFreeGracefully  2 роки тому +1

      @@RuthMcDougal I'm sure the kinship and biossance are probably lower SPF due to being able to use less zinc, therefore less white cast. Remember that an SPF 30 allows about 3 percent of UVB rays to hit your skin. An SPF of 50 allows about 2 percent of those rays.

      @@CrueltyFreeGracefully Thank you for the info. I ended up trying Pipette due to the price, and it has been really good so far. I have dark skin and there is some white cast if I use too much at once, but I love that it's for babies and therefore does not hurt my eyes with sweating, etc. It doesn't leave a cast if I take my time and use a little at a time. Thank you for these recommendations! It was great.

      @@RuthMcDougal I'm so glad you are enjoying it! I think art an SPF 50 thats mineral based, the fact that it eventually sinks into the skin is amazing. Thats a great tip about maybe applying in layers for those with a darker complexion where a white cast shows up more easily

    I can’t wait to check out some of these! I’ve been using Coola and didn’t realize it’s not actually reef safe :/ Thanks!

    • @CrueltyFreeGracefully
      @CrueltyFreeGracefully  2 роки тому +1

      Let me know if you try any and what you like! There are a few options from Coola that are technically reef safe, but I have chosen to nix the brand as a whole considering they label their entire brand as reef safe even on formulations that aren’t, and I find that false marketing. But I also used to use coola until I did some research, so I totally get it!

    I accidentally just put this comment on the video from a year ago…..so ignore that 😅🤦🏼‍♀️ but could you do one geared towards spray on or powder on products for reapplication over makeup that is reef safe? I am having the WORST time finding reef safe options that I can reapply at work without looking crazy 😅 Ty!!

    • @CrueltyFreeGracefully

      Hi Mariah! No worries at all :) Thank you so much for watching and commenting! I'll just reply to you on this one. I'm happy to mention some powder forms, my only issue is that the powders are all *supplemental* to sunscreen and not in lieu of, so I'm not sure if powder is enough for application, but I also believe something is better than nothing. I can also share other unprotection lik my driving gloves, upf bathing suits, hats, rash guards, scarfs, etc. if you'd like :) The spray ons also still spray on white until you rub it in if you want it to be reef safe. I will continue to look into this more!

    • @CrueltyFreeGracefully

      also, in the meantime, some powder forms are the ilia powder spf, derma e, and jane iredal

    Thanks Grace! This is so helpful! I also read your blog, thank you so much! I am disappointed with Goop, Tula, Bare Republic & Coola - sis companies owned by the same parent company for 'fake' logos /unwarranted claims. Thanks for taking the time to do so much research, raising awareness and educating others on this important topic. Keep up the good work, thank you my friend.

    I love the Biosence/Pipette tip! I had no idea these amazing companies were owned by the same people and the formulations were similar with sunscreen. I love both of them!

      Yes! They also own a sugarcane company, which makes so much sense to supply their own sugarcane for their squalene! Very smart business.

    Would love a deep dive on supergoop and others that say they are one thing but are actually another…!! Really appreciated your time and energy on this subject, thank you so much

      Thank you so much for your kindness! I am so happy you enjoyed this. At the end of the day, I worry about "bashing" any brands as reef-safe isn't a regulated term. I definitely think it is "reef-washing" just like greenwashing is a marketing ploy. I will stick with the scientific expertise of NOAA and the latest Hawaiian legislature in what I consider reef safe. At the end of the day, I dislike that brands like supergoop can make fake, cutesy reef logos and call themselves reef safe, but most of their ingredients do not comply with NOAAs approved ingredients.

    Thanks for this information learned a lot today. I found this video because I was looking for a chemical spf 30+ lip balm that is reef safe but they all had bad ingredients and saw those reef safe logos and was very confused. I would like to see a video in where you explain the fake logos and ingredients

      Solara makes a GREAT lip spf! I am allergic to 90% of lip products, so thats one i'm still researching a lot. If you are ok with beeswax (so it's not considered vegan) EOS also offers a mineral based lip spf as well!

    Thank you so much for this thorough video! I appreciate the variety you provided based on different skin types, formula preferences, skin tones, and budgets. A majority of videos or articles I'm seeing catered to cruelty free sunscreen have been a little repetitive, giving the same brands, each to which I felt wasn't the right fit for me. I'm hoping to give some of the sunscreens you listed a try 🖤

    I really like the idea of tinted sunscreen… I’ve always tended to use coconut smelling ones in the past but you showcasing not only vegan brands but also the recycled plastic containers…. Really gets me thinking 🧐 thanks so much grace 💚

      I think tinted sunscreens will be the new norm someday! I jsut think brands need at least a light, medium, and a dark tint to be inclusive.

    I'm almost out of the Inkey list spf - I really like it! Where I live (Czechia) we don't have that many options that fits all of those standards - and they are so important to me especially because I turned vegan a few months ago. But thanks to your video I found out that I can easily get the Attitude spf so I'm excited to try that! 😌

    I wish you would’ve also mentioned whether their pile up and how they wear under makeup. Nevertheless a great video👍 I’ve also found similar products through my own research

    • @CrueltyFreeGracefully
      @CrueltyFreeGracefully  2 роки тому +1

      Glad you enjoyed the video! Piling and wear under makeup can be sooo personal for skin type and what skincare was used, so I don't find it as effective to review. I would definitely not add any product known to pill to my list, or would have mentioned it if I saw it as a common thread in a ton of reviews

    Can’t find this info about brands that claim to be reef safe but aren’t. A lot of them say zinc oxide but I can tell they aren’t non nano

    • @CrueltyFreeGracefully
      @CrueltyFreeGracefully  2 роки тому +2

      Hello Reyna! I'm a bit confused about your statement, but at the end of the day, "reef safe" is an unregulated term, so, essentially, anyone claiming to be reef safe and has a logo is fake. I am personally calling reef safe formulations based off of the Hawaiian Legislature as well as using the data from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA).
      A lot of brands that contain ingredients like oxybenzone, octocrylene, avobenone, etc. still put fake reef safe logos on their packaging. These include brands like supergoop, coola, etc.

    thanks for this list! I have to switch to something new because I used Australian Gold for years but they just changed all their formulations to chemical rather than mineral based :( I'm looking at the Solara Suncare Mineral Defense Sport Spf 50 5oz for $20 at target or the Pipette one!

    • @CrueltyFreeGracefully
      @CrueltyFreeGracefully  2 роки тому +1

      Agh I'm so sorry. it's always a pain when brands reformulate. The Solara GO! line at target sounds SO amazing. They are sending me some to try soon, so I may do a dedicated review on them. The pipette is also so amazing. I think its all on skin preference and accessibility at that point :)

    • @CrueltyFreeGracefully
      @CrueltyFreeGracefully  7 місяців тому +1

      vegan isn't just about meat. vegan includes any and all forms of animal derived ingredients. In beauty products, it isn't meat that is a concern-- it's animal derived glycerine (made from animal ligaments), beeswax, lanolin (an oil secreted from sheep's wool), silk made from boiled alive silk worms), snail mucin, etc. check out my video on vegan ingredients to learn more what vegan vs vegetarian means and how it applies to beauty products.
