Well, Clarence Thomas has received in excess of $4 millions; Alito has received more than $1 million, also, while his wife leases property to an energy company for a percent of the revenue, Alito votes against the E.P.A. trying to regulate the industry; Roberts' wife has received $5 million by recruiting attorneys for law firms which appear often before the Court, and Gorsuch had property listed for sale for two years, but when he was confirmed to the court, he got a purchaser: the head of a large law firm whose firm has appeared before the Court more than 20 times since the sale!
These judges are being overly kind. If you read between the lines, Letitia James should be disbarred and criminally charged because it was taxpayer money that funded this weaponization of her office. This isn’t just about ensuring Trump is compensated-he lost so much time and part of his life defending himself against this lawfare. Judge Engoron should not only be disbarred and permanently banned from serving on the bench, but he should also lose his law license and be barred from ever teaching at a university, lecturing, or profiting in any way from the crimes he committed. Watching Letitia’s subordinate attorneys struggle to defend themselves against the most basic questions from the panel of appellate judges makes it clear that this has nothing to do with the law but is an effort to carry out orders from above.

And it needs to be emphasized that as well as limited funds, (which means someone misses out on an opportunity for a loan because Trump broke the rules), the finance companies will ultimately start losing money if all businesses did the same as Trump, because their actuarial tables will all be redundant, because they will be taking on bigger risk that they think they are absorbing. The real losers were in fact his competitors in the real estate business anywhere in the US. The law seeks to make a level playing field for all businesses at the same time protecting the banks for all the people. The risk is that these dangerous loans recreate the situation that caused Bush's GFC, maybe on a smaller scale, but just as foolish. All businesses live as close to the edge as possible to such laws because that way they operate in the same environment. Tax laws, contract laws, environmental protection laws all serve the same purpose of protecting the state for the people and still allowing businesses to operate.

@@epincion Regardless of state The Federalist Society is a threat to democracy. On Ballots all over the country there are judges who are up for election to stay on the bench. Also of the current nine members of the Supreme court 5 are current or former members. This list includes Brett Kavanaugh, Neil Gorsuch, Clarence Thomas, Samuel Alito and Amy Coney Barrett. Really? Let's see what Diddy gets for the team he created. It's a shame that you have to spend $500 million defending crap that shouldn't have had charges filed against it. Who was hurt with these loans? Were the loans paid back in full? How did it personally affect you?
@@bo2.4u6 no crime no victim… His loan was paid in full with interest… The appeals court is going to be overturning every single felony conviction… Your media has lied to you again😆😆😆🤭👍
500 million was his approximate yet unconstitutional fine in violation of the 8th amendment. We are not privy to his legal costs.
There is too much abuse of what our laws allow! Delay tactics need to be limited!
BTW, Harry, I keep forgetting to compliment you on the name of your podcast. Great play on "Talking Heads" name. Love your posts. Always illuminating.
A better name would be "Talking Asses" since everything they say is bullshit, but yeah "We got him this time" give me a break Meidas shills for even more snakeoil products and companies than trump
Please talk about The Federalist Society who backs these Trump appointed judges. People need to know who they are, what they stand for and how they back these judges before people just vote to retain.
This is NY State Court not Federal Court and the Federalist Society have no influence here I’m appoint the judges.
The issue is that this NY law under which Trump was prosecuted only exists in NY and no other state has similar and in other states what Trump did would not attract such a fine.
@@epincion Regardless of state The Federalist Society is a threat to democracy. On Ballots all over the country there are judges who are up for election to stay on the bench. Most people do not know to look at these judges and see if they are part of this society which has evolved into the de facto gatekeeper for the right of center lawyers and they vetted Trump's list of Supreme Court nominees and appellate court nominees. Also of the current nine members of the Supreme court 5 are current or former members. This list includes Brett Kavanaugh, Neil Gorsuch, Clarence Thomas, Samuel Alito and Amy Coney Barrett. Chief Justice John Roberts previously served as a member of the steering committee of the Washington chapter but denies being a member. Relevant to this, yes there are members of of New York state and federal court that are part of this society.
Let me guess, they are going to let him off with no punishment.
I’m thinking that too.
NY chicken coop all wet no water full rotten eggs
Monsters supporting monsters. Rich and white no accountability.

Remember Trump stating that there must be some punishment for women who circumvent abortion law.

“The banks were not even hurt at all…”, no harm no foul. Given that logic… there should be no such thing as Attempted Murder? I think not. ‘Rump should be paying the full amount or go to jail. Or both!!
The guy that got arrested for trying to kill frump the 2nd time should use this as his defense… no one got hurt… no harm no foul ?
Pathetic what the rich or in frumps case fake rich get away with…
We mere mortals just want to know if Trump will EVER
be help accountable for anything illegal he has done.
He won't because the entire "justice" system is owned an operated by Putin cronies and fascist lovers like Merrick Garbage apparently.
NO law was broken by Trump, the law was brought into disrepute by a corrupt judiciary.
Sure, when he finally does something illegal and hold Joe and Hunter to the same rules of law
Here is the thing. You think he has done all this illegal stuff, but what you are actually seeing is failed lawfare. He didn't break the law.
I bet vance can best harris trump too
The argument that he didn’t do anything wrong because the banks got paid should be obviously flawed even to a small child.
If he had produced accurate information to the banks, his costs and their profits would have been much higher.
In its simplest form, if I’m buying a Coke from you and it costs a dollar, are you ok only getting fifty cents? I mean, why not? You got paid, right?
Well said!
Spot on.
Exactly - saying he paid the loans doesn't answer the fact he fraudulently gained this loans and had the interest reduced because he downplayed the risks attached to those loans.
The argument that you are going to sell your property at a price lower than your estimate is idiotic. It's on the buyer if he takes it or leave it. CRAZY CASE. ITS UO TO THE BANKS IF D WILL LEND YOU OR NOT.
@@512Squared In business, everything is negotiable. It was the bank's responsibility to appraise the value of the collateral for the loan they gave.
Why is this man given such favor? He is a clear and present danger to the country and a convicted criminal. Why ?!
Mitch McConnell covers the political half. He's white and projects himself as rich (covers the legal half). We have a rotten system. This is just bringing it to the forefront.
Because the judges are just as corrupt as Trump
Because half the population is below average intelligence and somehow have been convinced to follow him as a cult leader.
No push back. Silence IS Complicity!
Bc heritage foundation covers him they created maga to do exactly what they are doing why would anybody tell people to just give your country to Putin? Hi Mike, Hi Harry! Thank you both for your dedication and time,💙💙 In the name of our Rule of Law and constitution. I love listening to both of your shows.
Great discussion!
What is the point of having a jury disrupt their lives, only to be told, sorry, thanks for your many months, but we’re throwing out what you worked so hard for?
Totally agree. Vacating the decision would be a major disincentive for people called to serve on a jury: especially would be on a trial of Trump or other such "privileged" people.
There was no jury in this case. This was a civil matter plus Trump's attorney did not ask for a jury.
@@janetdotson7829 Which turned into a complaint by the defence.. as I recall. They said they didn't have the opportunity to choose a trial by jury.
@@davidpetersen1and yet they did, but he gets what he pays for. Gives him a 'whiney' point to cry about at his rallies... "they denied me a jury of my peers! They denied me the right to take the stand"... Yada Yada.... he's pathetic!
Case shouldn’t have brought the dumb case in the first place and the jury just rubber stamped a guilty verdict. I guarantee most of them had no idea what they were voting guilty for. It was a sham case right from the beginning.
Shareholders of the banks etc were hurt. Did not receive interest the bank was due for the TRUE risk they were funding. It was fraud through and through. The banks should be lining up to recover the income they were defrauded.
No harm? The banks did not make as much money as they should have. Would not that money go to shareholders?
No, he would have gotten the same rate if his net worth was 100 million. It was the banks responsibility to conduct their own due diligence.
He should pay it all.
Wow, Litman AND Popock! You guys are great together. So appreciate your online bantering.

Harry Litman, Neal Katyal, and others have kept me sane the past decade. Just wish more prosecutors would take the clear actions you all point out.
The banks may not have been "hurt at all", but cheaters should not prosper. If he gets away with this, then anyone should be able to get away with it and what's the purpose of having laws if they are NOT followed? DA
If they throw it out, they shouldn't be judges
They will magas will be all over them
Trump better be held accountable for his convictions. And also the supreme court should be held accountable for there favoritism for trump.

I agree 👍, it's frustrating to see how fast justice moves with others when nothing is happening with trump and his goons. If feels imbalanced.
I couldn't agree more. Thomas alone has taken over 4 million and is ikely still on the take,
Well the mayor isn't orange🙄🤨
Patience. Can you imagine his mind, or what’s left of it.
Has the Bidens paid taxes on those millions of dollars china and other countries gave them
If every business did this the system would not work. Banks and people would be hurt. The law was done to protect the system
If this law has no bounds - any business contract could be prosecuted... Good luck to NY getting any businesses to invest in their county... Conviction is unsafe and will be overturned!

I think one of the weirdest opening statements asking why the judgment was so high is surprising.
